FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Girls Rugby League Last Friday, I was very excited to watch our girls Rugby League team play their first game at Clive Berghofer Oval. We have had girls par"cipate in primary interschool rugby League for many years, but this is the first "me that the girls have had their own compe""on. It was a skilful game, played in the right spirit. If you have the opportunity, I encourage you to come and watch our school sports teams play each Friday a%ernoon. The sports draw is available on our school website. Book Week (20-24 August) Book Week 2018 will be held from Monday 20 August – Friday 24 August. The theme this year is ‘Find your Treasure’. Students are invited to dress up on Monday. A parade will be conducted during the morning session, with prizes for best dressed.

Quadrangle Update Our quadrangle is almost finished. The decision was made to reduce the size of the block walls to open up the space. The walls on the eastern side were cut down last weekend and I’m sure that you will agree it has improved the overall flow of the area. The walls on the western side will be cut down this weekend. Sea"ng is currently being installed around some of the planters and on the western side of the block walls. We expect the project to be completed in the next two weeks. Thank you for your pa"ence during the construc"on phase. Toowoomba Eisteddfod Congratula"ons to all of our students who par"cipated in the Toowoomba Eisteddfod last week. Our String Ensemble received a Highly Commended award. Both the Concert Band and Stage Band placed third in their respec"ve sec"ons. This is a testament to the quality of Music educa"on at Toowoomba East State School and the dedica"on of our students. Thank you to Miss Rotar, Mrs Maughan, Mr Ryan, Mrs Barker, Mrs Capelli and Miss Smith for preparing and supervising our students. We received many posi"ve comments from other schools about the behaviour of our students and their performances. None of this would be possible without the significant contribu"on of our parents and carers. We appreciate your ongoing support of our Music programs. Richard Gibson Principal MS Readathon Embark on an epic adventure! The MS Readathon inspires kids to read as much as they can, all for an incredible cause. The rules are simple. Read whatever you like, as much as you can, in August. This year’s MS Readathon will be a magical quest and the adventure kicks off on the 1st
August and
wraps up on the 31st August. Parents can register their children as individuals at h=ps://www.msreadathon.org.au/parents . Best of all, by joining our quest, not only will you awaken a love of reading, you will be helping kids who have a parent with mul"ple sclerosis. Enrolments for 2019 If you have Prep aged children for 2019 and you live in-catchment or currently have other children enrolled here, but have not yet applied for enrolment, please contact our Enrolments Officer, Mrs Ciesiolka on 4637 5280 (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between 8:30am—2:00pm) Places for 2019 are limited. Music—Eisteddfod Ensembles from Toowoomba East State School competed in the Toowoomba Eisteddfod recently. All students performed beau"fully and their dedica"on in rehearsals was clearly evident in their quality of sound. The String Orchestra conducted by Ms Stella Rotar received a Highly Commended. The Stage Band and the Concert Band, conducted by Mr Phil Ryan, were awarded a Third Place. Their performances were highly-polished and we must congratulate these students on their achievement.
