CLUB INFORMATION - from Board
Member Peter Schofield
Grant applications: Australia Day Event- Our club has applied to the Noosa Council for $6,000 to run the Australia Day Event next year. The advice for success or not comes in November. The planned event will include Early Entertainment, Citizenship Ceremony, Local Legends Award, and of Course following Entertainment to 3 pm. We will have our vans there and hopefully it will be a fine day Concrete Slab- Noosa Council Community Project Grant- Richard Day and Peter Schofield are following up on a grant round that opened on 17 August. We have applied for approximately $10,000 to erect a concrete slab at the front of the Den Roller Doors. If successful (September close and December advice) it will provide us with a much safer , efficient and cleaner space at the front of our Den. Other Grants- Grant writing and applications can be fun. If you have any ideas of how we can effectively target some grants let Richard (chairman) or Peter know about it. Pam Mc Neill and Janelle Mc Donald have joined the group to assist in the discovery and target process for 2015/ 2016. Books, Books, Books - A reminder about our book lending facility. The project has started well and Members are free to take the books on loan, have a read, and then bring them back for others. First Members who take the books are encouraged to place a slip of paper inside the cover and to write a short comment on an article they liked, or a reference that other members may be interested in. Regards, Peter
FROM OUR MEETING 4 August 2015 – (thanks to Rosemary Luyendyk)
At this last meeting, Club Member Barry Bridger (who has been heavily involved with Youth Insearch
over many years), gave an overview the program, as summarized below.
Youth Insearch is a community organization that focusses on resolving adolescent issues at a peer
level. Peers are supported by skilled adults. It targets young people aged between 12 and 17 and is
open to all young people.
Contacts on the committee are: Ian McKay 5474-3348. Peter Schofield 5474-1297 Ian Glew 5455-6644
Youth Insearch began in Queensland in 1999 and became a Q4 district project, based in Bundaberg
in 2001. There are normally 4 camps a year which cost participants about $130 – 150 a camp and at
least $8,000 to fund each camp
As he has been involved in many camps Barry was able to give first hand reports of the positive
outcomes of the residential camps, often after just one day. He noted particularly one young
participant who went on to become a barrister and was still involved in Youth Insearch.
Club members may be called on to work/volunteer for the upcoming March camp. In thanking Ian
Glew who raised $3655 for the camps, Barry welcomed Ian to be one of those volunteers.
President Di on Community Radio
Di and Club member Michael Reid, had an interview with Len Tyler of Noosa Community Radio on
Wednesday 5th August, where a range of subjects were covered promoting the work Lions does in
the community.

Marathon, where he raised $3655 for

TRAVELLERS TALES
Geoff and Carolanne Bowden are currently travelling in Western Australia on their annual wildflower
and fish hunt. From the following, their hunting and fishing has obviously been most successful.
SNAPSHOT OF A NEW MEMBER – Mick Reid
Born and raised in Western Australia until the age of 15 when I joined the Australian Navy in 1965.
After 12 years where I served on a range of ships traveling throughout Asia and Australia I became a
civilian.
Spent the last 30 odd years in Sales and Marketing, the last 20 being self-employed consulting to a
wide range of industries.
In 2008 I volunteered for a stint in India refurbishing a village school in central Rajasthan and was
lucky enough to visit the Taj Mahal and go on a Tiger safari.
One of the wild native orchids they found.
A very pleased Geoff, with a 30 lb Jew
fish, caught on an 8lb line, which took
him almost an hour to land. Clever.
