inTramural oFFicialSintramural Sports is hiring! Interested in becoming an intramural official? You will make new friends, work flexible hours, earn money, and most importantly, you never have to work a Friday or Saturday. Each year, the intramural department hires over 200 student officials for the intramural program. Officials in each sport go through a paid training program. Training occurs over a two-week period before play begins and includes classroom sessions along with on-site clinics. In the classroom, sports rules and officiating techniques are discussed and reviewed. The clinics consist of veteran officials demonstrating proper court/field coverage and scrimmage games. Please come to one of the following information sessions in room SRC 281 for the sport you may be interested in officiating.

expanSiOn updaTeCURReNTly, most of the work being done on the Rec expansion is the drilling and pouring of concrete structural piers. Most of these piers are sixty feet deep to provide the stability that is needed with our “clay” soil. On the south side, “grade beams” are being poured that will connect these piers together to provide the base for the concrete floor. Before we know it, we will start to see concrete pillars and structural beams rising above the ground. This will be a milestone of sorts as we begin to see the structure take shape. More to follow in future editions of the Rec Guide. Keep Rec-ing!

The Texas A&M Sport Clubs Association provides the opportunity to compete against clubs from other collegiate institutions at the state, regional, or national level in 34 different sports, and allows members to learn or enhance their skills in a recreational setting. Each club is administered by students, has practice times and facilities, and receives some monetary support. To help subsidize the cost of travel and equipment, clubs may charge dues and participate in fund-raising activities.
While the Sport Clubs staff and the Department of Recreational Sports assist clubs in securing needed funds, facilities and equipment, the emphasis is on student leadership and development. Students are directly responsible for all aspects of operating and managing a successful, competitive organization. As a result, Sport Clubs present a unique opportunity for students to develop both athletic and leadership abilities.
Since 1974, the Sport Clubs program has captured over 200 overall team and single-event national championships and hundreds of conference championships.
