9Whentheyhadgoneashore,theysawacharcoalfirethere,withfishonit,andbread.10Jesus saidtothem,‘Bringsomeofthefishthatyouhavejustcaught.’11So Simon Peter went aboard andhauledthenetashore,fulloflargefish,ahundredandfifty-threeofthem;andthoughthereweresomany,thenetwasnottorn.12Jesussaidtothem,‘Comeandhavebreakfast.’Nownoneofthedisciplesdaredtoaskhim,‘Whoareyou?’becausetheyknewitwastheLord.13Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them,anddidthesamewiththefish.14This was now the third time that Jesus appeared to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.

39Oneofthe criminals who were hanged therekeptderidinghimandsaying,‘AreyounottheMessiah?Saveyourselfandus!’40Buttheotherrebukedhim,saying,‘DoyounotfearGod,sinceyouareunderthesamesentenceofcondemnation?41And we indeed have been condemnedjustly,forwearegettingwhatwedeserveforourdeeds,butthismanhasdonenothing wrong.’ 42Thenhesaid,‘Jesus,remembermewhenyoucomeintoyourkingdom.” 43Hereplied,‘TrulyItellyou,today you will be with me in Paradise.’

Surah 5:87–93

O believers! Do not make unlawful those wholesome things which Allah has made lawful for you. Do not transgress; Allah does not love the transgressors.87 Eat of the lawful and wholesome thingswhichAllahhasprovidedforyou.FearAllah,inWhomyoubelieve.88 Allah will not callyoutoaccountforwhatisinadvertentinyouroaths.ButHewillholdyouaccountableforthat which you solemnly swear. The penalty for a broken oath is to feed ten indigent persons with such food as you normally provide to your own family,ortoclothetenneedypeople,or to free one slave. The one who cannot afford any of these must fast three days. This is the expiationforbreakingyouroaths.Therefore,bemindfulofyouroaths.ThusAllahmakescleartoyouHisrevelationsthatyoumaybethankful.89

Obelievers!Intoxicantsandgambling,dedicationtostonesanddivisionbyarrowsarethefilthy works of Shaitãn.Getawayfromthem,sothatyoumayprosper.90 Shaitãn desires to stirupenmityandhatredbetweenyouwithintoxicantsandgamblingandtopreventyoufromtheremembranceofAllahandfromSalah.Willyounotabstain?91ObeyAllahandobeytheRasoolandabstainfromthesethings.Ifyoudonot,thenyoushouldknowthatOurRasool’sduty is only to pass on My message clearly.92 There is no blame on those who believe and do good deeds for what they ateinthepast,providedtheyabstainfromthosethingswhichhavebeenmadeunlawful,thenremainsteadfastintheirbeliefanddorighteousdeeds,thenabstainthemselves from whatever they are forbidden and believe in Divine Law,andthenfearAllahand do good deeds. For Allah loves those who do good deeds.93

Surah 17:23–33

YourRabbhasdecreedtoyouthat:YoushallworshipnonebutHim,andyoushallbekindtoyourparents;ifoneorbothofthemlivetotheiroldageinyourlifetime,youshallnotsaytothem any word of contempt nor repel them and you shall address them in kind words.23 You shall lower to them your wings of humility andpray:“OmyRabb!BestowonthemYourblessingsjustastheycherishedmewhenIwasalittlechild.”24YourRabbknowsbestwhatisinyourhearts.Ifyoudogooddeeds,certainlyHeismostforgivingtothosewhoturntoHiminrepentance.25Youshallgivetoyourrelativestheirdueandtotheneedy,andtothewayfarers.Youshallnotbeaspendthrift26 – as spendthrifts are the brethren of Shaitãn and Shaitãn is everungratefultoHisRabb.27Youshallspeakcourteouslyto needy persons if you are waiting for your Rabb’s bounty and you lack the means to assist them.28Youshallneithertieyourhandstoyournecknorstretchthemforthtotheirutmostreach,lestyousitback,blameworthy,destitute.29Surely,yourRabbgivesabundantlytowhomHepleasesandsparinglyto whom He wills,forHeisawareof the conditionofHisservantsandobservesthemclosely.30

You shall not kill your children for fear of want,foritisWeWhoprovidesustenanceforthemaswellasforyou;surely,killingthemisagreatblunder.31Youshallnotcommitadultery;surely,it is a shameful deed and an evil way.32Youshallnotkillanyonewhom Allah has forbidden,exceptforjust cause under the law.Ifanyoneiskilledunjustly,Wehavegrantedtherightofretributiontohisheir,butlethimnotcarryhis vengeance too far in killing the culprit through taking the law in his own hands,asheissupportedby the law.33

Obelievers!Do not put yourselves aheadofAllahandHisRasool.FearAllah;surelyAllahhears all and knows all.1Obelievers!DonotraiseyourvoicesabovethevoiceoftheProphet,norspeakaloudwhentalkingtohimasyouspeakaloudtooneanother,lest your deeds should come to nothing while you do not even perceive it.2 Those who lower their voices and speak softly in the presence of Allah’s Rasool are the ones whose hearts Allah has tested for piety; they shall have forgiveness and a great reward.3Thosewhocallouttoyou,O Muhammad, from outside the private apartments,mostofthemlackcommonsense.4Ifonlytheyhadpatienceuntilyoucouldcomeouttothem,itwouldcertainlybebetterforthem.AllahisForgiving,Merciful.5Obelievers,ifanevildoercomestoyouwithsomenews,verifyit,lestyoushouldharm others unwittingly and then regret what you have done.6 And know that Allah’s Rasool is amongyou.Ifheweretofollowyouinmost affairs,youwouldcertainlybeintrouble.Allahhasendearedthisfaithtoyouandbeautifieditinyourhearts,makingunbelief,wrongdoing,anddisobedienceabhorrenttoyou.Itistheywhoarerightlyguided7 through Allah’s grace and blessing.AllahisKnowledgeable,Wise.8Iftwopartiesamongthebelieversfallintomutualfighting,makepeacebetweenthem.Thenifoneofthemtransgressesagainsttheother,fighttheonewhohastransgresseduntilhereturnstothecommandsofAllah.Then,ifhereturns,makepeacebetweenthemwithjusticeandbefair;forAllahlovesthosewhoarefairandjust.9
