The New Lakeside Front

3 March Heavy machinery enter a well-drained lake, starting leveling and compacting the area of expansion (4x70 meters). The works for the erection of the new retaining wooden wall are also started.

22 March The wooden retaining wall is now completed. Then, big stone gabions are quickly installed, connected to each other and covered with a protective layer. They will provide the foundation block of the new expansion. The English Garden looks now like a building site! (but not for very long…)

29 March The entire surface is filled with local topsoil, which is carefully leveled and compacted. The soil in excess is used for the formation of two small isles in the Lake, which will give refuge to the swans and other aquatic birds.

30 March The new rose beds are measured and laid in the new expanded area. Cow manure is mixed to the local top-soil, so providing ideal growing conditions for the roses. Sticks are used to mark the distance between the plants. Simultaneously, the fiddly assembly of the new wooden fence proceeds non-stop.

2 April The new grass arrives in square turves. All the pieces are laid, secured and watered within two working days. Sand is then used for filling all the joints of the turves, so giving ideal conditions for the grass to root quickly. The first roses are also planted, fed and generously watered.

19 April The New Lakeside Front, fully restored and planted. The area is 4 meters deeper than before, displaying three long oval rose beds in the center of the new space, now ready to be enjoyed by the visitors.
