Dear Families, It is a time of year to rejuvenate. The students have worked hard overthe term and deserve a well-earned break from the school routine. I wishall families and friends a safe and happy holiday. Enjoy time with yourloved ones.At assembly last week, we witnessed a very colourful sight. The studentseagerly paraded their Bonnet creations and met with a very special furryfriend. We thank our Parents, Staff and Friends (PS&F) Association fororganising the Holiday Raffle which raised over $1,100 toward aplayground refurbishment. The next PS&F initiatives are a Mother’s Daystall and a Movie Night. Watch your emails and social media for furtherdetails. A hot topic of discussion is the National Disability Insurance Scheme(NDIS), a new way to support Australians with disability and make sureeveryone has the support they need to enjoy an ordinary life. CarersQueensland is your NDIS Partner in the Community. Last week we werefortunate to have a presentation to staff and parents from CarersQueensland explaining the scheme and answering queries. Their staffwere very knowledgeable and a valuable source of information. They run‘Drop In Sessions’ in the community where they are only too happy tohelp you and your family on the NDIS journey. More information can befound later in this publication.

We have amazing staff and students. It is nice to be able to acknowledgetheir achievements. Congratulations to Edison who was recentlyawarded Under 13 Best Bowler at her cricket club. Well done Edison, what a marvellous achievement. Please let us know of any amazingaccomplishments so we can acknowledge and celebrate. Staff are alwaysstriving to provide meaningful and relevant programs for our students.Later in this publication find out how you can nominate a therapist forrecognition. While students started their holidays last Friday, staff were busy atschool engaging in professional development about the NationallyConsistent Collection of Data (NCCD) as well as preparing for the newterm. The NCCD is an annual collection of information about Australianschool students with disability. The NCCD enables schools, educationauthorities and governments to better understand the needs of studentswith disability and how they can be best supported at school. ANZAC Day is a chance for everyone to come together and rememberthose who served and died in war and on operational service, past andpresent. Our school will be holding a special ANZAC assembly onWednesday 24th April at 9am. All families and friends are welcome toattend. We have a range on commemorative ANZAC badges on sale atschool. Proceeds from their sale goes to support our service people, soplease remember to send money along with your child when schoolresumes on Tuesday 23rd April. Kind regards, Jan

JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWSIn Physiotherapy, Junior School students have been
working on visual tracking and ball skills, core stability,
gross motor skills, balance and strength. The students
enjoyed learning to play balloon volleyball and
suspended ball tennis last week. They had a great time
catching bean bags using baskets and were starting to
move swiftly to catch bean bags thrown out of their
immediate reach.
During core stability sessions, students have been
practising slow and steady movements on the balance
beam and controlled weight shift on the maze wobble
board. The hopper ball was used to build core stability,
cardiovascular endurance and muscle strength. Over the
last few weeks, these sessions have also included
activities in prone on peanut balls and standing on
wobble boards whilst throwing bean bags, forcing the
students to maintain balance as their centre of gravity
moves outside their base of support.
Through animal exercises such as the crab crawl, bear
walk and frog jump, students have been developing their
gross motor skills and strength. These animal exercises
are also practised in class in the morning Move, Grow,
Dance program and the students have progressed to
more challenging animal moves over the course of the
term.

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWSMiddle School has been busy celebrating Easter! We
have had lots of fun decorating Easter cards for family
and friends.
The children got into the spirit of Easter by participating
in the bonnet parade and had lots of fun completing
Easter activities e.g. craft, word finds & dot to dots. The
Comets class even made some delicious Rocky Road,
they thought licking the bowl after was the best part
(don’t we all!) Even the furry bunny himself came to visit
and left us all a special surprise.
Middle School wishes everyone a safe and hoppy Easter!

SENIOR SCHOOL NEWSOn Friday 22nd March about 10 boys from Ambrose
Treacy College came to the Glenleighden school.
They came in their school bus.
First some of us went to the library to play games
with our visitors. We played “Who am I?” and did
puzzles together.
Another group did bowling on the basketball courts.
The pins were large and filled with sand and the
bowling ball was plastic and heavy. After that we
played soccer together on the oval. It was hot and
sunny.
Finally we ate ice blocks with our friends in the
senior school eating area and talked with the
Ambrose Treacy boys. Then they went home.
We all enjoyed making new friends and we are
looking forward to next term because the boys from
Ambrose Treacy will visit us again. Girls from
Brigidine College will come to the Glenleighden
School too.
