o Sponsorship support for Annual Meeting exceeded budgeto Slow registration flow for education courses – goal is to minimize impact on budget

Strategic Focus
Strategic Focus• In October 2008, ABMA adopted a three strategic plan for the
association.
• The plan is woven into all parts of operations and goals and has become a great partnership document between leadership and staff with a united vision.
• Over the past three years, we have diligently focused on enacting the goals in the plan and staying within its scope.
• We have many success stories but also a few areas that came up short that we can certainly learn from.
• The current plan is reaching the end of its usefulness and earlier today the leadership agreed to the creation of fresh three year plan later this year.
Member Value• Comprehensive valuation of ABMA statistics committee and their programs
and work plan for implementationo Statistics Committee created a work plan for 2010‐11o Revamped quarterly statistics report released with enhanced with new data and
indices with more timely submissions and report completion o Creation of quarterly report for all members with executive summary and trends
• Recruit suppliers as associate members to join ABMA and create an associate council for networking and collaborationo Five suppliers have joined ABMAo Successful energy event hosted by AJAX Rolled Ring and Machine
• Explore opportunities and determine feasibility for ABMA to be the source for bearing and related industry news. New ABMA website launched complete with more interactive features,
enhanced members only section and media capabilities. Launch of ABMA news in motion in April 2011 reaching beyond ABMA members
to all parts of the bearing supply chain, government officials, media and academia.
• Implement 3 year plan for education program which includes refresh of Advanced and Essential course and expanding beyond bearing engineers.
o Essential Concepts course completely revised in 2010, Advanced course completed in 2011.
o First online module complete in 2010 – updated in 2011 ‐ Evolution of Bearing Technology
o Exploring new education offerings for distributors• Release the first year of Ted Harris Scholarship program with internship
opportunity to Penn State engineering student.o Disappointment in 2010 ‐ no students completed the processo Three submissions for 2011 – Recipient To Be Announced
• Engage National IPR Center in partnership program to fight counterfeiting.o Built relationship with IPR Center with January meeting and year end

Industry Outreach
• Explore expansion of Annual Meeting beyond AGMA and ABMA with other manufacturing associations.
o Created a task force with AGMA to explore opportunities for additional industries ‐ not found the right fit – size, meeting timing, etc.
• Explore possible partnership opportunities with AGMA Foundation.
o Working with anti‐counterfeiting committee and MSU on research project that potential to be funded by the AGMA Foundation.
• Create a manufacturer/distributor partnership around counterfeiting with PTDA and BSA.
o BSA created and is leading a task force of ABMA and BSA members to focus on the counterfeit issue.
Alliances & Collaboration
• Expand the role of the ABMA anti‐counterfeiting committee and create a multiyear work plan.
o Multi‐year work plan under implementation includes engagement with the IPR center (Customs), partnership with distributors (BSA/PTDA) and the initial stages of a research partnership with MSU.
• Explore the creation of an environment committee to focus on domestic environmental issues and be a voice to WBA.
o This has been tabled due to the prioritization of other initiatives.
World Bearing Association (WBA)
WBA Focus
• Grinding Swarf Recycling Project – Shanghai Regiono Some WBA companies have installed briquetting machines and produced swarf with the ability to begin the recycling process
o Dealing with two local EPAs – Shanghai and Jiangsu• Shanghai – embraced the process ‐ chemical analysis taking place
• Jiangsu – more reluctant – very early in the processo Investigating hosting EPAs for education seminar to try and speed up the process
Environment Committee
• Gearing up for the second year of the new global bearing statistics report.
• With changes in WBA legal representation, the program has been moved to Baker & McKenzie.
• Meeting of global statistics representatives from participating companies in the coming months. o Review the inaugural report and processo Discuss improvements and enhancementso Agree to timeline
• Report is scheduled for completion in August.

top news stories, updates, and overall trends related to the bearing industry.
o A valuable resource for all readers and will certainly enhance ABMA’s visibility.

Human Resources Committee• Current Situation:
o One active project (compensation & benefits survey)
o Low participation (over the past two years only 3‐4 participants at the Fall and Spring meetings)
o Limited interest (difficulty contacting committee members for a phone survey, had to pull teeth to get participation in compensation survey)
Human Resources Committee• New Focus:
o The HR Committee’s purpose is to serve the HR community through education, discussion and sharing best practices
• Changes:o One meeting annually either during the Fall meeting, or rotate location among participating companies
o Participants would volunteer to lead discussions about a given topic (i.e. wellness, compliance, training, etc.)
o A professional speaker may be invited to discuss a topic of particular interest

Statistics CommitteeMISSION:The Board of Directors continues to challenge the statistics committee to increase the value of the statistical program
RESULTS:
• Timeliness Participants have drastically improved reporting. Maximum report delinquency has been reduced from over 200 days down to 10 days. All 2010 reports were completed on time a feat that hasn’t been accomplished in the past 10 years.
• Quality New audit methodology allowed members to review past submissions, resulting in drastically improved data quality. Methodology for calculating inventory has been enhanced.
ABMA established a methodology to logically estimate for missing MA332Q numbers and is the premier source of quarterly bearings market data. There is no comparable report currently available.
• Enhancements Development of improved output reports including additional strategic indices, improved graphics, an executive summary and a quarterly deliverable for non-participants.
• Looking forward Working to identify solutions for the potential sunset of the MA332Q
New and improved Quarter Turns – Officially released with 4Q2010 data!
