Our inquiry integrates the subject areas of human society and its envi- ronment, music, language, history, technology and literacy to find out more about threatened and endangered species. We had many interesting questions to ask her as part of our inquiry. This week we are going to the SAE Institute in Byron Bay to record our song in a professional recording studio and to learn more about the recording and production side of music. We have also done a reading comprehen- sion exercise about the endangered shore- bird, the beach stone-curlew from a recent local newspaper article and Byron Bird Bud- dies will be taking us on a nature walk and talk to learn more about threat- ened and endangered local birds on Tuesday 4th September. Please bring binoculars on the day if you have some. We will be completing our inquiry with a pro- ject on an endangered or threatened animal of our choice and doing internet research to find out more about their threats and habitat.

Weekly Awards—Congratulations to the following students who will receive an

Mrs Cook’s class. Parents are welcome and invited to attend.

Front Page news by 2/3CL 2/3CL have been working on an inquiry study into our local environ-ment and threatened and endangered animals with ‘Miss Mandy’ Dumesny from the University of Southern Queensland. Our inquiry integrates the subject areas of human society and its envi-ronment, music, language, history, technology and literacy to find out more about threatened and endangered species. Principal’s Comment Dear Parents & Guardians,

Spelling Bee – a Big Hit

In what was a great finish to a busy week our first ever

school spelling bee went terrifically. Once some nerves

from the students involved settled they got into their work

with style. Our winners had to negotiate some quite difficult

words but they weren’t fazed at all.

Our youngest participants weren’t competing for anything

other than pride and congratulations go to Eivissa and Kes-

trel for their fine spelling.

Our stage 2 and 3 students were equally impressive. As a

result of their application Marley and Alice (for stage 2) and

Chris and Erica (stage 3) emerged successful and will be

representing us at the regional finals on Tuesday 11th Sep-

tember. We wish them well.

Rugby League was the Winner

A group of our junior students travelled to Tweed Heads

last week to attend a rugby league gala day with Mr Sten-

ner. They had a terrific day, played their hearts out and

generally represented their school well.

Stars are Born

On Wednesday this week Ms Clowes’s class got to experi-

ence the thrills of working in a live recording studio. After

their success last year at the Blues Festival they’ve been

asked back to record their song. Who knows – it might go

viral on uTube and they’ll all end up rich and famous!

A Little Bit of Shuffling

Our school traditionally has a high turnover of students

during the year. It’s no surprise a place as beautiful as

Brunswick Heads attracts visitors who fall in love with the

place and try to stay as long as they can. This means our

school has a fair percentage of itinerant enrolments. Unfor-

tunately from time to time this means our classes can be-

come lopsided. Such a situation exists at the moment so

we’ve had to reluctantly move 3 or 4 students in the senior

years. It is not ideal to be moving students at this late stage

but with one class of 33 and others of 27 or less we had to

do something to ensure every child receives the maximum

input possible from their teacher. We thank those families

involved for their patience and understanding.

Athletes Shine

This Friday Ochre and Arikyi will be representing us at the

Regional Athletics Carnival in Coffs Harbour. In a coup for

the school Mrs Roberts has also been asked to attend as a

chaperone/event organiser for all AWD (Athletes With a

Disability) competitors.

Which reminds me – the Paralympics start this week. If you

want to be inspired by a group of young people who refuse

to let obstacles get in their way you could do no better than

to tune in and have a look at these young talents. This will

be good for your children and their development of toler-

ance of difference in our society as well.

Have a great week.

Mick
