MISSIONGulf Restoration Network is committed to uniting and empowering people to protect and restore the natural resources of the Gulf Region.

GRN conducted 18 pollution monitoring trips by air, land and sea in 2017 which resulted in 36 pollution reports fi led with the Coast Guard and state agencies. In April, we released a report, “Oil and Gas in the Gulf of Mexico”, highlighting the most egregious oil and gas spills in 2017

and recommending reforms.

GRN successfully encouraged 12 downriver governments to pass resolutions in Louisiana & Mississippi opposing the destructive One Lake project, which would build a lake and dam on the Pearl River in Jackson for lakefront development and fl ood control.

In 2017, GRN opened an offi ce in Pensacola, Florida, to support our ongoing work to protect wetlands along the coast, reduce water pollution, and build momentum in the fi ght against oil and gas

development in the Eastern Gulf.

In 2017, GRN ventured into the world of deep-sea corals in the Gulf. Our members submitted over 1,000 letters and 65,000 petition signatures to the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council in support of deep-sea coral protections. This laid the groundwork for 23 sites totaling 302,609 acres being named Habitat Areas of Special

Concern in early 2018. Photo: NOAA.

EXPENSES INCOME

VISIONThe Gulf of Mexico will continue to be a natural, economic and recreational resource that is central to the culture and heritage of fi ve states and several nations. The people of the region will be stewards of this vital but imperiled treasure, and assume the responsibility of returning the Gulf to its former splendor.
