Background on the Awards

America has a long and proud tradition of volunteer service. The President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation created the President’s Volunteer Service Award program as a way to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to take positive action to change the world. The program continues as an initiative of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).

The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes Americans who have achieved the required number of cumulative hours of service over the course of a lifetime. The President’s Volunteer Service Award encourages Americans to live a life of service.
