What is it

The Great Chilean earthquake was the biggest earthquake ever with a rating of 9.5 on the Richter magnitude scale. The place that was most affected was Valdivia. The earthquake occurred on 22 of may, 1960 when it hit. The resulting tsunamis and landslides affected Japan, Hawaii, Southern Chile, the Philippines, New Zealand, South East Australia, the Aleutian Islands eastern New Zealand.

How does this relate to science Lots of the rock had been eroded by gravity

when landslides occurred and rock was eroded by tsunamis at the time they hit and after when the water left . Rock was greatly weathered by water both mechanically when tsunamis hit and chemically because of all the salt water. Gravity pulled rocks through cracks in roads when the earthquake happened. This is tied in with the rock cycle because now the rock is turned into sediment by heat and pressure.

What caused it and what type of plate boundary?

The Nazca plate was driving itself deeper and deeper under the South American plate for millions and of years even before the first humans even roamed the earth. The type of plate boundary involved was convergent meaning one plate was going under another meaning the Nazca plate is much smaller than the South American plate.
