Mallomars     They were marshmallows covered in chocolate and filled with raspberry jam on a cookie.

Cherry Candy Cigarettes     Your typical candy cigarette, but instead of the bland chalky taste, they instead had a fantastic cherry flavor.  

 Magic Shell Ice Cream Coating     Chocolate syrup intended for sundaes that was supposed to turn into a hard shell after a few moments on the cold ice cream.

Sticklets Gum     A gimmick gum that came out sometime around '88. Its big sales pitch was that of economy. Wherein a typical (at that time) Wrigley's pack carried 7 sticks, The Sticklets pack carried nine slender sticks. Both packs were the same size, yet the Sticklets packs had the gum "cut" parallel to the shorter side of the pack so as to make 9 sticks instead of 7.    

 Crunch n' Munch     It's somewhat like caramel corn but better, it has more of a butter flavored caramel with peanuts. You can still find it in stores today.

• 1980 Summer Olympics Moscow - USA boycotts because of the invasion of Afghanistan by Soviet forces in 1979. It leads to withdraws from many other countries – 80 nations compete – lowest since 1956.

• 1988 Summer Olympics – Seoul, South Korea – USA Track star Ben Johnson caught using steroids after winning the 100m dash.

• 1989 – Pete Rose, all time hits leader in the history of the sport, is banned from baseball for betting on games. He has yet to be reinstated, as it is a hot topic currently in the world of sports.
