Dear Colleagues and Friends

On behalf of the Organizing Committee we cordially invite you to join the 9th Congress on

Women’s Health and Disease “From Puberty to Menopause” which will be held in August 28-

30, 2014 in the Athens Hilton, Greece.

The Congress is organized by the 2nd Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Uni-

versity of Athens and the Hellenic Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology with the

collaboration of worldwide scientific societies. The scientific committee has focused on hot

topics of gynecology and obstetrics, endocrinology and reproductive medicine. This will be

achieved through the kind collaboration of many distinguished speakers.

Athens is renown for its historic monuments of classical antiquity, such as the Parthenon, the

Agora , the Odeion of Herod Atticus, and the Temples of Theseus and Zeus. Participants will

also have the opportunity to visit the museum of Cycladic civilization and the archeological

museum, the unique Acropolis museum and the Benaki Museum, where the Gala Dinner will

take place. The participants of the Congress will have the pleasure to visit archeological sites,

such as the new Acropolis museum.

Core Obstetric Ultrasound Hands-on Course

The Core Obstetric Ultrasound Hands-on Course is designed to offer practical elements and basic knowledge components withinthe scope of the core ultrasound curriculum. It is intended for Obstetricians and Gynecologists and other professionals (Radiol-ogists and Midwives) whose experience in obstetric ultrasound is as yet limited and who wish to further hone their skills. Our aim is to provide participants with ample knowledge of core obstetric ultrasound techniques as well as their applications. The first segment of the course is comprised of interactive lectures offering “How do you do it” pointers. During the secondsegment, participants will be given the opportunity to conduct scans on female volunteers of a range of gestational ages.A limited number of participants will be accepted in order to guarantee the benefits of small group teaching.

Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics: Postpartum Hemorrhage Course

The 2nd Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the University of Athens Medical School, in cooperation with the Hel-lenic Society of Obstetric and Gynecologic Emergency, will be providing a 2½ hour course of interactive presentations andworkshops on postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). The first part, duration 1 hour, will furnish participants with the knowledge required for successful implementation of a compre-hensive surgical approach in a hospital facility. It is composed of lectures, videos and discussions focusing on surgical treatment.The second part of the course consists of two workshops, duration 45 min each, aiming at reduction in severe maternal mor-tality and morbidity. The participants will be instructed in successful PPH treatment via both the pharmaceutical and themanual mode, and, based on the knowledge acquired, will have practice in effective use of algorithms and development ofstrategies and action plans within their place of work. The second workshop will also demonstrate the innovative Bakriballoon as an efficacious treatment modality of PPH prior to proceeding to surgical treatment.
