Antelopes two games from unbeaten district title The Abernathy' Antelopes remained unbeaten with wins over Denver City last Friday, 52·35, and Idalou, 63·45, Tuesday. The Lopes have already clinched a playoff spot from District 5·AA and need wins over Shallowater tonight and Post Tuesday to remain unbeaten. United Blood Services is asking area residents to donate blood at the Aber­nathy EMS blood drive on Monday to honor our service men and women. Mili­tary personnel are typically faithful blood donors; however, many of them have not been available to donate for the commu-nity blood supply. ,

During World War II, civilians on the home-front were asked to step in for military personnel who were on assign­ment. Today , all eligible blood donors are encouraged to make an appointment to give blood at the Abernathy EMS blood drive, which will be held at Abernathy EMS Center from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

"By giving just one hour of your time, you can help save the lives of several patients here locally," said Connie

Obituaries Larry Griffin

Memorial services for Larry Griffin, 70,ofAbernathy were Feb. 5 at First United Methodist Church in Aber­nathy with Dr. Ken Horn offi­ciating and the Rev. Jerry Don Cheshire assisting.

He died Wednesday, Feb. 2,2005.

He was born Oct. 14, 1934,

~ in Olustee, Okla. He married Ann Moore in 1957 in Can­

yon. After graduating from Springlake Earth High School in 1952, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Con­fli ct. In 1962, he graduated from the UniverSity of Texas, College of Pharmacy, moved to Abernathy and began his 44-year pharmacy career at Pinson Pharmacy. H e was currently employed at the Lubbock State School. Griffin served thl'ee-terms on the Ab­ernathy City Council, one term on the Hale County Ap­praisalDistl'ictand held vari-

ous positions in other local or­gani.zations.

Survivors include his wife; his mother , Alene Griffin, of Plainview; one son, Micah Griffin; one daughter, Sharla McConnell; and one grandBon, Shaun McConnell, all ofLub­bock.

Entombment was private with no personal viewing. In lieu of flowers , memorials are suggested to a favorite char­ity.

Petra Cabrera Hernandez Rosary for Petra Cabrera

Hernandez, 90, of Petersburg was recited Tuesday in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Petersburg with the Rev. Rene Perez, pastor, officiat­ing. Funeral Mass was cel­ebrated Wednesday in the same church with the same officiant.

Burial followed in the Pe­tersburg Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hernandez was born Oct. 12,1914,inGTO.,Mexico. She moved to Petersburg in 1950 from Mexico. She was a member of the Sacred Heart

Catholic Church and the Guadalupailas.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Vickie Camacho.

Survivors include a son, Joe A. Hernandez of Lubbock; a daughter; Maria Rendon of Petersbu'rg; a brother, Anto­nio Cabrera, and aaister, Sofia Cabrera; six grandchildren, Richard Rendon II, Marcos Rendon, Angelica Hernandez, Evangelina Hernandez, Juan Hernandez and Jessie Her­nandez; three grea t-grandchil­dren, Gloria, Brandy and Juan Hernandez Jr.; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Murtice Leona Carroll Nesbitt Services for Murtice Leona

Carroll Nesbitt , 83, were Thursday at Rector Funeral Home in Amarillo. Burial was in Uano Cemetery.

She died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at a Fort Worth care center.

She was born Oct. 31, 1921, in a small community near Plainview, the fourth child of Susie and Monroe Carroll. She was a graduate of Plainview High School, Draughon's Busi­ness College in Amarillo and Powell Cosmetology School in Lubbock. She enjoyed several professional careers before her retirement. She worked in sales and management and was an instructor in cosmetol­ogy. She taught Sunday school and worked in the outreach programs at First Baptist Church in Abernathy, where she lived for many years. She married Paul Nesbitt on Dec. 21,1940.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Nell Cosby and Helena Hembree, and her husband on Dec. 21,1997.

Survivors include her daughter, Shirlee J. Gandy and husband, Taylor, of Fort Worth; sons, Dwain Nesbitt of Fort Worth and Mickey Nesbitt and wife, Lisa, of Cabot, Ark.; brothers, James,

Abernathy Lady Lopes 2005 The Abernathy Lady Lopes finished their season Tuesday at Idalou. They closed to within 8 points twice in the first half but Idalou's full court press caused turnovers that turned into too many points and a 47·28 win in the season finale. The JV girls also lost, 35·14. The varsity girls ended the year 7· 23,3·11. Denver City beat the Lady Lopes, 72·50, last Friday. The JV was defeated, 38·33, in overtime. Against Idalou Meagan McClenney scored a team· high 14 points for AHS. The Lady Lopes scored 2 early in the third quarter and didn't score again until McClenney's third field goal of the game broke the : drought with 4:23 left in the game. She scored 10 of the Lady Lopes' 12 fourth : quarter points. Against DC, Kianna Blakes and Kenna Christopher each led : AHS with 12 points.
