This magazine, as the name probably made quite obvious, will be re-leased everyday - Monday to Friday. Its purpose will be to relay to you the highlights of the days’ news in music and in film. We will endeavour to publish an issue every evening.

The Angle Daily is an interactive magazine. That means that unlike a lot of other publications that just talk about music and video, we can actually show them to you and include them on the page itself. The majority of the images inside are clickable- doing so could allow you to play a video, listen to a song or just visit a website. The article will probably tell you what to expect.

We’re currently looking for unsigned bands and artists to feature in this magazine. To have a news piece written about something you have com-ing up- be it a new record, a massive tour, something you’ve released that you want streamed, whatever- or to have something reviewed, just send an email.

NEWS: prawn stream trackFive-piece emo act, Prawn have unleashed their brand new track, Seas, which is a small part of their bigger split release, due on November 27th. The split release will see them featured alongside Moving Mountains on a 12” vinyl record. Each band will get two songs on their own side of the record.

The vibes the bands bring to the scene will both contrast and accentuate each other in this dichotomised pairing of sound. Triplecrown records will be pushing the boat out on this one.

NEWS: night birds launch new videoNew Jersey’s Night Birds have released an official video for their track, (I’m) Wired, which has been dedicated to the recently departed Brandon Carlisle of Teenage Bottlerocket. The track is taken from Night Birds’ LP, Mutiny at Muscle Beach.

Mutiny at Muscle Beach is the band’s follow up to their 2013 release, Born To Die In Suburbia, and is available now via Fat Wreck Chords.

NEWS: vicky speedboat stream trackThe culmination of Sean Huber from Modern Baseball and Will Lindsay of WC Lindsay, punk duo Vicky Speed-boat have made their new track Weathering Bell available to steam in full online. The song is due to appear on the band’s forthcoming EP, Two Years No Basement, which is to be released November 27th.

When asked to comment on the album and the pairing itself, Sean Huber said: “This band was something that was always supposed to happen. We had talked about it for years, sometimes serious, sometimes late at night in half-jest. But it was when we found ourselves travelling through different countries, slumming it with new friends and strangers, sleeping in a backwards rental car driving on the wrong side of the road, and wandering aimlessly for hours in strange places that we decided now was the time.” He also stated that: “The spontaneity and sometimes sketchiness of these experiences inspired the music, and all we needed to do was get in a room together and make it happen.”

NEWS: Middle distance stream new trackBuckinghamshire-based rock quartet Middle Distance are streaming another song, New Hall.

The band say the track is about “moving away from someone you’re close to”. This is the second song to be released from their upcoming EP, Losing Colour, giving a taste of what’s to come. Not that you have to wait long for the full EP, as it is available from the 27th November.

NEWS: h09909 release new trackLA duo Ho99o9 have unleashed a video for their track, DeathKult Disciples (999 Anthem). The video pays tribute to the carnage the band wreak at their live shows. Fading images between scenes of war and foot-age of their gigs, where the crowd and the band are going equally crazy, we get a taste of the blood and sweat each live show drowns in. You can see the video via the image above.

The band are currently touring Europe and will finish their tour in the UK in early December. Catch them on the following dates:

NEWS: sunny gang release new trackSunny Gang have quite the unique sound, mixing hip hop with punk, creating an alternative rock sound with a difference. Their new song, Godzilla, is inspired by frustration and anger at political issues and world problems.

“Godzilla takes a few steps away from the usual Sunny Gang party-anthem formula. It’s basically a culmi-nation of all our inner frustrations as we witness the constant dead-end battles between social, political and ethnic divisions. The instrumentation and vocals follow a thrash based groove which signify a haunting realm of chaos. Meanwhile, the visuals are a play on the Ludovico Technique witnessed in A Clockwork Or-ange. It’s full of violent images that detail many disturbing times in humanity. Unlike Dr. Brodsky, we aren’t forcing the viewer’s eyes open. We want the audience to take a conscious effort to view these horrendous times in humanity, with the intention of creating an understanding that we will self-destruct as a society if history continues to repeat itself.

ep review: the wild, the youthManchester four piece The Wild, The Youth have released their new self-ti-tled EP. Four tracks that are all completely different, yet tie together per-fectly.

With incredible vocals and startling musicianship, the poignantly titled Awake begins the record and demonstrates all we need to know about the band.

Predictable ME is our standout track on the EP, with unusual and intricate synth and diverse vocals.

Searching For is, to put it in simple terms, exquisite. A calm introduction that yo-yos into an exploding chorus and back again time and again make this a rich and vibrant song.

The EP closes with The Epicurean, a track with haunting vocals and choral choruses.

Simply mind blowing. AN

news: bruce springsteen reveals lyric video for unreleased track The lyric video for unreleased Bruce Springsteen track, Party Lights, has been revealed.

The track is taken from the outtakes of The Boss’ fifth album, The River, which came out back in 1980. Springsteen is to release boxset The Ties That Bind: The River Collection on December 4th via Columbia, which will include the original album along with unreleased music, unseen concert footage and a new documentary.

news: stone sour stream coverStone Sour are now streaming a cover of Iron Maiden’s Running Free.

The song is taken from the band’s second covers EP, Straight Outta Burbank…, which will come out as a vinyl-only release on record store day, November 27th.

The forthcoming release, which is the second of three planned EPs, will also feature covers of songs by Bad Brains, The Rolling Stones, Motley Crue and Slater.

news: eagles of death metal drummer releases statement Eagles Of Death Metal drummer Julian Dorio has released a statement following the November 13th terror attacks that targeted Paris’ Bataclan theatre.

His message read: “November 13, 2015. I, along with my bandmates @eodmofficial, had the privilege to play to one of the most energetic crowds of our tour when, nearly half way through the show, the unimaginable oc-curred. Absolute and unnecessary evil turned our world on its head. I am beyond grateful that I was able to find a way out of the venue, but I am mourning those who did not, including our mate, Nick Alexander. My thoughts are with their families. I’m home safe. And now I have a new family abroad. To Arthur, who ran for his life right beside me and selflessly put us in a taxi before himself, thank you. To Fabrice, a fan who lent me his phone later that night so I could call @emilydorio and attempt to put her at ease, thank you. To everyone who, in the face of unrelenting evil, went toe to toe using courage, compassion, and love as their weapons. You all are my heroes.

news: kill hannah release last songFolllowing the announcement that they plan to disband after a series of shows at the end of this year, Kill Hannah have unveiled their very last song, This Is Our December.

“Once you’ve survived a Chicago winter together, you’re bonded for life, like Es-kimos,” says frontman Mat Devine. “The holidays are particularly significant to us because no matter where we travel throughout the year, we always come back to host our annual hometown show, New Heart for Xmas. So this song

is our love letter to the city and to the fans who brave the tundra alongside us every December.”

The song might be good. It might be bad. We don’t know. After all, it’s only available for free streaming via Amazon Prime, and who the fuck has that? AN


news: panic! at the disco to headline slam dunk festivalPanic! At The Disco are to headline next year’s Slam Dunk Festival, with three dates in May next year. The band are joined on the bill by the likes of Of Mice & Men, New Found Glory and Issues.

“It’s awesome, it’s fucking cool, and I’m very excited,” says frontman Brendon Urie. “We haven’t actually played it before, but we have friends who have and have heard it’s awesome.” Other bands set to play the festival include Four Year Strong, Every Time I Die, Memphis May Fire and Real Friends. news: a tetris movie is comingThere’s plenty of puns we could make here. Rush Hour director Brett Ratner is bringing a Tetris movie to the big screen.

At first thought, especially following Threshold Entertainment’s Larry Kasanoff’s comments about wanting to give the plotless game a “epic, imaginative” sci-fi story, it would seem likely that the adaptation would be something akin to the recent Adam Sandler movie, Pixels. But sadly that isn’t the case as the film Ratner is working on will in fact be more along the lines of the Social Network, following the struggle that designer Alexey Pajitnov encountered in trying to get the game recognition. How thrilling. AN.

news: philippa boyens to write young merlin filmLord Of The Rings and The Hobbit veteran writer Philippa Boyens is to take on an adaptation for Disney of T.A. Barron’s young adult book series, Merlin: The Lost Years.

The series, which to date spans twelve books, begins on the enchanted island of Fincayra, where a teenage Merlin embarks on adventures with female com-panion Rhia and jester Bumbelwy. The young wizard finds an antagonist in the form of Rhita Gawr, a spirit world warlord. The books are said to fit into the same sort of mould as J K Rowling’s Harry Potter, which should mean that this news heralds the beginning of what should be an effortlessly successful new franchise for Disney. AN

news: trailer and poster released for captain america 3The debut trailer and poster have arrived for Captain America: Civil War.

The film, which if the trailer is anything to go by will at least feature Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), will see Stark and Rogers go head to head as comrades become enemies over the suggestion that superheroes should be forced to reveal their true identities and register with the government.

The trailer is pretty damn exciting, coming to an emotional head in a brief pre-combat dialog between the Cap (“He’s my friend”) and Iron Man (“So was I”). Captain America: Civil War hits UK cinemas April 29th 2016. AN

NEWS: tom cruise in talks for mummy rebootUniversal is currently looking for star power to lead the cast of its The Mummy reboot, with Tom Cruise firmly in their crosshairs.

Plot details haven’t been released yet but Jon Spaihts is working on a script that will see the mummy once again walking the streets, this time in the modern day. It’s not clear what role Cruise has his eye on but, according to Variety, he’s interested in having a hand in shaping the film. This will see him working alongside Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan, who are also overseeing the development of a series of movies featuring a variety of classic horror characters like Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster and the Wolfman.

The movie is looking likely for March 2017. AN

NEWS: angelina jolie rumoured for bride of frankensteinRumour has it that Angelina Jolie is set to appear as the title character, one of classic horror’s most iconic charac-ters, in an upcoming The Bride Of Frankenstein reboot.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress supposedly has to choose between taking the role or com-mitting to a sequel to 2008’s The Wanted. Remember that? However, it’s also been suggested that Jolie has no choice but to take the role as she’s tied into a contract with the studio, Universal, after they allowed her and Brad Pitt to make the critically-slammed By The Sea.

Does anyone particularly care about seeing another Wanted movie? We know which role we’d pick. AN


NEWS: Fantastic four sequel may be canceledIt’s hardly a surprise, but it would seem that the disappointing Fantastic Four reboot has lost its sequel, as Fox has removed the release date from its schedule. It was, according to some sources, supposed to be hitting cinemas in 2017.

Despite the poor reception it received from audiences and critics alike, Fox has always been adamant that a sequel would be made, but perhaps all the negativity surrounding such an idea- including cast and crew fallouts- have finally changed their minds.

Here’s hoping they sell the rights back to Marvel, so they can finally get on with making a decent adaptation. AN

NEWS: neil armstrong could be played by ryan gosling in biopicFollowing-on from the success of Whiplash, director Damien Chazelle is currently eyeing up his next big project, a Neil Armstrong biopic based on James Hansen’s book, First Man: The Life Of Neil A. Armstrong, which might be close to landing a star in Ryan Gosling.

The biopic, which is currently being adapted by Josh Singer, will follow Armstrong during his time as a Navy bomber fly and test pilot, through to his time at NASA and the eventual Apollo 11 mission to the moon.

The project, titled First Man, has been in its early stages for a decade, with Clint Eastwood at one point being attached for Warner Bros. According to Deadline, talks with Gosling are in their initial stages. AN

film review: the martianIf you like the idea of watching an isolated Matt Damon wander around a deso-late planet for two and half hours, then this is the film for you. However, if you’re like me and don’t have that in your ‘list of what makes films good’, then you will probably get quite bored, like me.

From the trailers and general overview of The Martian, we know that the film is about a man who is stuck on Mars for a long time. Spoiler alert! It really isn’t much more than that. Like a lot of books that have been made into films, it seems that the action and ideas are really much more suited for the written medium. You only see the character’s thoughts and feelings through their actions in film, but books allow the character’s mind to speak to you directly. I think that would work better for a guy who’s alone on Mars.

Matt Damon’s character, Mark Watney, constantly reels off jokes, which are sub-par. They feel far too geared towards knowing there’s a cinema audience sitting in front of them. Obviously, all films know that there’s an audience watching them (you would hope), but this one doesn’t do well in hiding the fact. Mark Watney reels off pop culture references and jokes about his situation just to keep you entertained, rather than himself. Obviously it’s meant to show how bright his attitude is in the face of danger, but it would be better if he were actually funny.

Not only that, but the film treats you like a fool. There were far too many mo-ments where complicated mathematics and space ship trajectories were ex-plained through the use of condiments and general stationary. I know I’m not a rocket scientist, but save me the floating staplers and whooshing noises, Ridley.

Ok, so there are some good elements to this film. The cinematography is stun-ning and if you want to see top budget renditions of the orange, endless and lifeless Mars, then you won’t be disappointed. Much of the film is spent overlook-ing the vast orange terrains with a classically sci-fi score from Harry Gregson-Wil-liams… and a lot of 70’s disco music (Guardians of the Galaxy appears to have started a trend). Another part, which I appreciated, was that there was no love interest! Finally Hollywood, you break one rule of your rigid film structure!

Those two points however, don’t make up for the boredom and sheer length of the film. But if you’re a fan of Matt Damon, then I’m sure you’ll find some joy in the dusty desert of Mars. CM

Cold-Reading: Scratching the Surface of the Most Exploitative Lie

COMMENT:Cold-reading is the art of profiting the be-reaved, Martin Ellis takes a sceptical glance at the world of psychics.

“I’m getting a ‘P’ coming through, and I think it’s a man. Yes, definitely a man. Does that mean anything to you? A ‘P’, is it Patrick or maybe Peter? No, wait, it’s clearer now - Paul? Yes, that’s right he says his name is Paul, is he your grandfather or maybe your uncle? Yes? That’s right, your grandad. He used to be in the army, I’m sensing, or maybe the Navy? No? Well the sea was im-portant to him, that’s for sure. Are you sure there’s no connection here? What’s that? He loved fishing? Yes, that’s what he’s telling me now! He’s laughing, says he was always trying to land the big one! Does that sound like him? Yes, well, as I said, water was very signifi-cant to him in life. OK, so we have your grandad Paul who was a fisherman with us right now. He passed quite suddenly he says, something to do with his chest. A heart attack, you say? Yes that’s right, his heart, very sudden and very sad. He says never got the chance to say good-

bye properly, but he wants you to know that he’s sorry about that and that. He’s telling me that he doesn’t want you to be sad, though …”

We’ve probably all seen or heard a psy-chic at some time, maybe on TV or at a show. Perhaps you’ve been impressed with their uncanny ability to somehow produce information about you or your loved ones that they couldn’t possibly have know in any other way. But are they really doing what they claim to be do-ing – contacting the dead? Many people swear that they are doing just that, but as a sceptic, I can’t simply accept this extraordinary claim without question. After all, the idea that we can speak to the dead runs counter to everything we know about death from a scientific point of view, not to mention the fact that the history of apparent psychic communica-tion is riddled with fakery and fraud! So how could we tell if the ‘psychic’ we’re speaking to is the real deal and not just

another deluded soul or, worse, an out and out charlatan who’s happy to exploit your grief for their own financial gain? Well, you could start by asking yourself a few simple questions as you listen to your psychic of choice giving a reading:

• Is the psychic providing accurate and detailed information or just vague and general statements? There is no obvious reason why the dead should not be able to provide clear unambiguous information such as full names, dates of birth, addresses that they lived at, and so on. If the psychic just gives partial info, such as ‘the letter P’, or ‘a city in the north’ ask yourself why is that? Are they just hoping someone in the audience will fill in the details for them by calling out “that’s my grandad Paul”? Or is it that the dearly departed love noth-ing more than a good tease?

• How many times is the psychic wrong? If a psychic is on a direct line to your relative, shouldn’t everything they tell you be correct? Why would they get basic facts wrong, such as the job the deceased used to have or the names of their grandchildren? Count the number of times they get something wrong, even if they then ‘correct’ it with a little help (“Sarah, no? Well, it’s something with an S … Susan? Ah, Sophie is it?”) and com-pare it to how often they get things right without help.

• Is the psychic asking you to provide information? If so, why? They’re the ones speaking to the dead, right? How much information does the psy-chic actually provide and how much comes from you? If you’re providing most of the info, what exactly is the psychic doing other than prompting you? Come to think of it, if they are

talking to your uncle or whoever, why do they even need to ask you to confirm what they’re saying at all? Is uncle telling fibs?

The truth is that there are many ways that a skilled illusionist can duplicate what supposed psychics do, and with very sim-ilar levels of success. In blind tests (where the audience doesn’t know that the per-former isn’t a ‘real’ psychic), people will still swear that the readings given were amazingly accurate, even though they were achieved using well-established non-psychic techniques. And sadly, peo-ple who are grieving are often very open to the idea that their loved one still lives on in some way. They may grasp on to any hope, no matter how flimsy, and in their heightened emotional state they might miss the tricks and artistry that the purported psychic uses to achieve their goal. Being taken in by a psychic is noth-ing to be ashamed of, of course, they’re often very good at what they do. But if they’re a genuine psychic, they will be able to give you clear, accurate informa-tion without asking for your input. If they can’t do this, ask yourself why not?

A Beautifully composed track about pushing through times of hard-ship, and inevitably drink-ing your way through your pain. The Musician-ship on display in Shiny Gun is of the highest order; Shiny Gun gives us everything that we desire from country music, the authentic twang of the guitar that lets you know what you’re listening to, and the classic guitar solo before the final chorus. RH

Lyrics filled with Irony about social beliefs and your standard song about love, loss, romance and all things in between. Think Kate Nash or KT Tunstall with some distortion on the guitar and some foot stomping drum beats that Mumford and Sons would be proud of. However, this fails to distinguish itself outside the realms of ordinary Indie Rock. Having just come back from New York and now off on tour, Expect big things from these girls. RH

Welcome To My Asylum is a bombardment and overload of awesome insane metal, executed to precise and sublime standards. It has everything and more you could hope for, for an extreme metal track; its infectiously melodic, dark, with hard hitting rhythms, tech sounds and beats, not to mention, lots of varied crazy vocals that are com-pelling, making you feel like you are at the ‘asylum’ – a true welcome to their mad house! Once you enter, I don’t think you will want to leave! CL
