at 10:30. Ladies-PLEASE join us as we pray especially for our Country this month.

Girls, Games & Goodies will be on July 9th from 10am-2pm. Cold salads—any and all

kinds—is our menu for July along with desserts and morning snacks.

MISSION PROJECT: Monetary donations for the students we are supplying with school

supplies/clothes/backpacks/shoes, etc. will be accepted and much appreciated! Balboa

folks, please leave your donation in the backpack located in the Fellowship Hallway. Checks are to be

made to Balboa Baptist (reference: BackToSchool.) As always, non-perishable canned goods are ac-

cepted. These items are taken to the food bank at Harvey’s Chapel in Mt. Pine. Call or email Kathy to

add your name (922-3209 or [email protected]).

Tickets are going fast for the September 18th Friday Night Event at 7pm with nationally

known speaker and author, Liz Curtis Higgs. This event, “Good Clean Fun—A Life

Bathed in Laughter” is for MEN & WOMEN (and youth) and will be held at Balboa Bap-

tist Church. Tickets are $10 and available at the Welcome Center on Sundays and daily

LADIES! Don’t be left out for the ARKANSAS WOMEN’S RETREAT on

Saturday, September 19th from 9am-3pm at Balboa Baptist Church.

Liz Curtis Higgs will be our keynote speaker, and this promises to be

the best retreat ever! The day will include Liz’s spiritual, yet humor-

ous approach in sharing with us that “It’s Good To Be Queen” as she

delves into the life of the Queen of Sheba.

This day also includes a fabulous fashion show by Lagniappe, gour-

met sandwich lunch, uplifting praise and worship music, door prizes,

and HSV’s retired psychologist, author, and counselor, Dr. Polly Brown, will speak on

how to face the future with hope and encouragement. Along with the expertise of

Dr. Essie Belle, these “Dueling Doctors” will delight the audience with presentations

throughout the day. Get ready to laugh with our ‘Hostess of Hilarity’ Dr. Essie Belle—

aka Darlene Phillips.

This event costs $30 and registration forms may be found @

WELCOME OUR NEW MEMBERS

TERI GARRETT

If you meet a pretty, petite, dark-haired lady with

a sparkle in her eyes, you just might have met

Teri Garrett. It seems Teri lived in a whirlwind

during the first few years of her life. She was

born in Long Beach, CA, lived there until the fifth

grade and then her family moved to Thornburg,

AR. She graduated Perryville HS, immediately be-

gan working for the State of AR, decided to go to college, enrolled at

AR Tech for 1 ½ years, re-entered the workforce for the State, married

and moved to Dallas for six months, then back to Paris, AR. While living

there, her first daughter, Carrie, was born. Then Dumas, AR was her

home for fifteen years; during that time, her second daughter, Nicole,

was born. After working for ten years in Dumas, she returned to col-

lege—graduating from UA/Monticello, magna cum laude, with a degree

in accounting. After being exposed to a career with a CPA firm in Pine

Bluff, she determined a CPA she was not! She has since settled quite

comfortably and successfully into a career with the financial firm of Ed-

ward Jones with whom she is presently employed here in the Village.

Nicole Minogue, Teri’s youngest daughter, and son, Hagen, live in New

Roads, LA. Her oldest daughter, Carri Burns and two children, Zane and

Mackenzie, live here in the Village. Zane and Mackenzie are very active

in our AWANA program and youth group. Our hearts were blessed Sun-

day evening, June 7th, when Teri accompanied her grandson, Zane, to

make a profession of faith to Pastor Denny—a grandmother’s special

blessing!

Demands of the job prevent Teri from enjoying her love of the land and

water—she would like to learn to kayak, and also to hike the great

trails in the Village and all the other trails in AR. She participates in the

Christian Women’s Ministry, is a member of our Singles’ group, and is a

happy member of the Welcome SS Class taught by Dick Rypkema and

Jim Lewis. Get to know this lovely lady—you will be blessed.

CHILDREN & YOUTH MINISTRY

Awana Clubs have dismissed for the sum-mer and will start back up again in Septem-ber. (They meet during the school year.)

Balboa’s Youth Activities

Our Youth (Grades 7-12) meet every Wednes-

day at 5:30pm—even through the summer—

starting with a meal. Bring a friend and join

us for fun, food, and great fellowship!

VOLUNTEERS ARE A BLESSING!

Balboa is blessed to have the most dedicated and

qualified volunteers in the nation!

The dictionary defines a volunteer as a person who express-

es a willingness to undertake a service. We currently have 35

such people just in the nursery, and yet there is room for at

least 6 more!

These people never know how many to prepare for, yet, time

after time they come prepared and ready.

I continue to be amazed and grateful for each one.

Lorri Moffett

Children’s Director
