ALL LADIES are invited to the First Thursday Prayer Time on September 3rd from

10am-11am in the Seekers classroom. Social distancing is observed and masks are

required. Temps will be taken as you arrive. As our national elections are only two

country. No one is asked to pray aloud and all requests are kept in strict confidence

among attendees. Please text Darlene Phillips at 501-922-7345 or email at hsvdar-

[email protected] for additional info. You will be blessed by joining other Balboa

HOSPICE BLESSING BASKET MISSION PROJECT UPDATE

Thank you for contributing to the Hospice Blessing Basket mission project. We were able to reach

those outside the church to make them aware of God’s love in action through this project. We

were able to send 20 blessing baskets to Arkansas Hospice for distribution to patients. Please find

THANK YOU TO RETIRING BWM TEAM MEMBERS

The following ladies are retiring from the BWM Team this year: Debbie Clark, Vanessa Downing, Sue Griggs, Karen Laib, Pat Lipe, Stephanie Noblett, Linda Rymer, Betty Vaughn, and Alice Weith. We want to express our appreciation for their dedicated service through the Balboa Women’s Ministry. Having a servant heart does not merely mean doing or offering a service, out of duty or obedience to God. Having a true servant heart means we humble ourselves in true humility and love and serve others — with joy. These ladies demonstrated this through their BWM service. They will be missed!

WELCOME TO NEW BWM TEAM MEMBERS

The following ladies are joining the BWM Team this year: Stephanie Graham, Melissa Kirk, Barbara Miller, and Susan West. We welcome these ladies to the team!

Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes

It’s time to start shopping and filling shoeboxes for

Samaritan’s Purse “Operation Christmas Child”!!

HOW IMPORTANT ARE THESE SIMPLE SHOE-

BOXES?

Franklin Graham recently stated: “As the coronavirus continues to spread and cause untold

suffering, CHILDREN NEED GREAT JOY now more than ever. MOST OF ALL, THEY NEED THE

HOPE FOUND ONLY IN THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST. Every gift-filled shoebox is a tangible

expression of God’s love. As children come to faith in Jesus, they tell their friends and family

about Christ. As a result, families and communities are transformed, and new churches are

planted. We want boys and girls around the world to know that God loves them and has not

forgotten them during this time of fear and uncertainty.”

We at Balboa are a little behind in beginning our shoebox emphasis this year, but we don’t

want the coronavirus to keep hundreds of children and their families from receiving all of the

fun things included in a shoebox, and most importantly, we don’t want them to miss the

GOSPEL MESSAGE that is included.

Shoeboxes will be available at the church soon, but you can start shopping now for school

supplies, hygiene items, and small toys to fill your shoeboxes. Remember, if you don’t feel

comfortable getting out and shopping, you can make a donation to the Samaritan’s Purse

shoebox account at the church and someone will shop and fill a shoebox for you.

The filled shoeboxes will be collected on Sunday, November 22, or you can bring them by the

church during the week of November 16-22. Thank you, in advance, for blessing children

around the world with a shoebox filled with HOPE and GOD’S LOVE!

We enter September praying for teachers and children as they begin the school year. Let’s

remember all the people making decisions in our state and federal government and Balboa

Baptist Church, as we continue to struggle with the issues of the coronavirus.

We continue to be busy in the library and have added books this month. We were given a

set of books in a series called “Quilts of Love”. DO NOT think you need to be a quilter to

enjoy these books. Each has a quilt pattern theme, but they are Christian fiction with stories

of relationships, mysteries, etc. Each book has its own stand-alone story and each book is

written by a different author. They do not need to be read in any particular order to be

enjoyed. Because there are more than twenty of these books and we wanted to make them

easily identifiable, we have placed them on the right hand wall of the library near the DVD’s.

Other new books can be found on top of the children’s bookcase as you enter the library.

We are always grateful for gifts to the library. Due to shelf space, we ask that the books be

published the year 2000 or later. We accept books by Christian authors that assist us in our

Christian growth and understanding as well as Christian fiction and DVD’s.

Thank you for continuing to use the wipes and hand sanitizers that are provided and for

wearing a mask if you are not alone in the library. I do not know when or how but things are

going to get better and we will return to a “new” normal—whatever that turns out to be.

If you have not used the church library, I invite you to find us down the hall from the

members picture wall and across from the prayer room. The library is open any time that the

church is open. There is a sign for check out/in procedures when you find books that you

would like to read.

Dottie Craft is our new librarian and we look forward to the new ideas that she will bring to

our library and the work that continues. I do enjoy working in the library and hope to

continue to see you there.

BRUCE & ROXIE WRIGHT

Bruce is a true Arkansan. He was born in Warren,

AR and grew up in Rye, AR where he was saved at

13 years of age. After graduating from high school,

he worked for The Potlatch Corporation until 1991.

Meanwhile, Roxie, a preacher’s daughter, moved to

Warren. There she graduated from high school and

went on to college to get a M.S. in Library Science.

In 2001, while Roxie was working at Kroger, she and Bruce met and married. In 2014 they

left Warren for Bella Vista. While they lived in Bella Vista, Roxie was the director of the

public library and Bruce was an over-the-road truck driver. They were closer to their grand-

children, but it seems they were not close enough so they moved to the Village in 2019.

Once they were here, Roxie was the caregiver for her mom, Wilma Bynum, who is now in

Belvedere. Bruce was working for the POA and Roxie began working 3 days a week at

Cornerstone Capital Management in Hot Springs, and 4 days a week at Brookshire. Roxie is

also involved with our Music Ministry. You may have seen her singing with the ensemble

when one of our services was on Facebook.

Bruce and Roxie have lots of interests. Between them they have 3 children and 6 grand-

children. When time allows, they like to travel, go to estate sales, and spend time with those

grandchildren. On Sunday morning you will find them in the Disciples Sunday School class

taught by John and Barbara Miller. Look them up and you will enjoy them. I did and had a

great visit with them.

KENNETH & DONNA LANDERS

Kenneth Landers was born in El Dorado, AR

and attended school in Smackover. When he

was 12 years old he attended Beach Springs

Baptist Church Camp and was saved while he

was there. Donna Landers also was born in El

Dorado, AR and lived in Smackover. She also

was saved at age 12 when she attended the Hot

Springs Assembly of God Church Camp.

Kenneth and Donna both continued to live in

Smackover and attended different churches there. In 1987, Donna and her two children

returned to Smackover after living in New Jersey. Donna and her two children returned to the

church that Donna grew up attending and Kenneth was attending that church teaching a

Sunday School Class. Different church activities put them together and soon a romance

blossomed. In March of 1989, they got engaged and on June 16, 1989 they got married.

Kenneth brought a son with him to the marriage and Donna brought a son and a daughter to

the marriage. In March 1992 they had a daughter together.

They began attending Cornerstone Church in Smackover and attended that church for 20

years. While attending Cornerstone Church, Kenneth was an Elder for the church, Donna

taught a Sunday School Class and sang and they both played in the church orchestra. Kenneth

played the trumpet and Donna played the flute. Kenneth currently works for Petrin, Brown

and Root where he is the South Arkansas Safety Manager. Donna has worked for Murphy Oil

and Murphy USA for a total of 23 years. She officially retired on Friday, August 21, 2020. In

September 2018, they sold their home in El Dorado, AR and moved into their current home in

the Village. Their first time to attend BBC was at the Christmas service that year and ultimate-

ly joined BBC on May 5, 2019. They are part of His Mighty Workers Sunday School Class.

Their family now consists of 2 sons, 2 daughters, 3 granddaughters and a new grandson that

is only 3 1/2 months old. They also have two fur babies. Kenneth enjoys golfing, hunting,

fishing and he also participates in competition silhouette shooting. Donna enjoys antiquing,

going to estate sales and reading.
