Head out to the Pinnell Mountain Trail, a 27 mile adventure located in the hills north of Fairbanks. Bring an adventurous spirit and strong legs, as this trail covers a lot of elevation gain and loss.

Smoke Those SalmonAugust 121300Fee: $5Learn how to smoke your own salmon and some tricks and tips from the ORC staff. No previous experience required.
Dall River Pike HuntAugust 17–190800Fee: $200An Alaska State Fishing License is required! Enjoy a fishing trip to the Dall River drainage where the tenacious Northern Pike lurks in its murky water. Fish over 40 inches are not uncommon. Participants need to provide their own breakfast, fishing rod and reel, tackle, small cooler, bug dope, rain gear, sleeping bag and pad. Transportation, tents, coolers with ice, lunch, and evening meals are provided.
Overnight Float TripAugust 25–260800Fee: $50Venture out for a weekend of relaxing and floating fun. ODR will provide the transportation, food, and equipment needed for this trip. All you need is good clothing (NO COTTON!) and a desire for adventure. No previous paddling skill is required!
Stiles CreekATV RunAugust 260800Fee: $75An all day ATV run to Stiles Creek in the
Chena River State Recreation Area. Transportation, ATV and Helmet will be provided. Bring lunch, snacks, drinks, gloves and daypack with bungee cord to strap to ATV. Over the ankle boots are required. Departs from the ORC at 8:30 am. An ATVSafety Course is required prior to the departure date.
Valdez Silver SalmonAugust 31–September 20800Fee: $275An Alaska State Fishing License is required! These salmon are not only fun to catch but also make for some tasty eating. If you catch the largest fish of the day you could be the winner of the “Valdez Silver Salmon Derby” as long as you have purchased a ticket prior to leaving the docks. Transportation, camp ground, and charter are provided. Participants need to bring camping gear, food, refreshments and fishing license. Reservations must be made by August 17.

> Hired! Apprenticeship Program <It’s not too late to be HIRED! this summer! The HIRED! Apprenticeship Program provides 15-18 year-old youth with meaningful, professionally managed career-exploration opportunities in Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) operations. The program is open to dependents of active duty, DODcivilian, and retired military personnel.
• Candidates must be 15 – 18 years of age• Must be registered with Child, Youth & School Services (CYS Services)• Must have and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or better• Chosen participants are required to work 15 hours per week for 12 weeks• Additional options and requirements may be offered during the Summer Term• Apprentices may complete up to 2 terms per year for 3 consecutive years

July 20: Today is the Grande Finale for this year’s Summer Reading Program: Reading is Delicious- Healthy Home, Healthy You! CYSS will be onhand to provide sports activities and Zumba! We’ll also have Library Relays (on hippity hops), an Edible Book Contest, and a Watermelon Seed spitting contest!Special guests will announce the top reader awards and fun will be had by all!
This event begins at 2 p.m. There will be way too much fun to be had in only an hour!
Story Hour Resumes July 29 with Gorgeous Grandma Day-- Read about women with grace and style. Make your Grandma (or someone you think of as Grandma) a treasure!
