Rabbi Ari Dembitzer Rabbi
In a few weeks, we will be lighting ourlittle “menorahs” in our windows for theworld to see.Realistically these lightsarenot getting much attention, for they arebeing trumped by different lights. Whataretheselittlelamessupposedtoshowtous and theworld, when notmany peoplecanreallyseethem.Therabbistellusthatthe word “Chanukah” contains the roodword “Chinuch,” or education. Thequestion then becomes who are weeducatingandwhatareweeducating?
The rabbis tell us that it is us we areeducating.Weareeducatingthatgodlinessexists in nature and in humanaccomplishmentsaswell.Justbecausethelight is not physically pronounced andlarge, it is there. It is the driving forcebehind all.We are educatingourselves inthe comfort of our homes to deine ourpurpose and then continue to shine thislighton theworld.Thecandles igniteourlames within us which then inspires theworld.
As the Rabbi of this wonderful shul, mymission is to light the ire inside of us sowecanthenshineforth,
Blessings for a goodwinter and a HappyHanukah.
