Week 4 Term 1 - 19 February 2019
Positive Behaviour for Learning
Spotlight
Congratulations to this week’s winners Jasinta, Ned, Felix, Barra, Julion and Michael. Barra was this week’s prize
winner
For the next two weeks, the focus of our
PBL lessons will be around ‘Respectful’
behaviour. Students will be learning what it
means to behave in a respectful manner in
all non-classroom settings whilst at school.
Students who demonstrate respectful
behaviour will be rewarded with PBL
‘respectful’ tokens to reinforce the
appropriate behaviour. Once students
receive ten tokens, they can place their
token card into the weekly PBL draw for a
chance to win a small prize. Students have
been given new token cards this year and
they can use their cards from last year to
carry over.

PRINCIPAL’S NEWS
MEET THE TEACHER AND COMMUNITY CONSULTATION
A big thank you to the families who were able to attend our Meet the
Teacher and Community Consultation evening last night. The teachers
will also attend the Wallaga Lake Community Hall from 4:30 to 5:30pm
tonight to meet and consult with more families. The school really
appreciates ideas and feedback as we make decisions about our current
practices and future planning. The teachers thoroughly enjoyed meeting
the families of our students and sharing their learning spaces with them.
ABSENCES
Students are expected to attend all school activities on time. If your child
is absent from school, is late or needs to leave early, an explanation
needs to be provided to the school.
Explanations that are justified include:
unavoidable medical/dental appointments
recognised religious holidays
urgent family circumstances, such as a funeral
your child is sick or infectious (doctor’s certificate may need to be
provided).
Unjustified explanations include running late and sleeping in.
Unjustified explanations are still counted as an absence.
If your child is absent, there are several ways you can provide an
explanation including:
Responding to the SMS message sent out on the day of absence
A notification using the Skoolbag app
A written note to your child’s class teacher upon their return
A ‘pink slip’ filled out at the office.
SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Thank you to our families and community members for supporting our
students at last Friday’s swimming carnival. Congratulations also to our
wonderful students for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship. I would like to
thank Ms Daly and Miss Gaertner for their organisation of the day. Good

LITERACY NEWS
At the end of 2018, all students K-6 sat an imaginative writing pre-assessment task in readiness for 2019 teaching and learning
planning around Writing and Representing. All students in Years 1- 6 will be focussing on creating imaginative texts, specifically
narratives, for the next five weeks. Teachers have been working on creating learning intentions and success criteria based on our
NSW English Syllabus outcomes and the National Literacy Progressions. We are working towards students setting their own
learning goals in the sub-element of Creating Texts during 2019.
Students in Years 1-6 will be focussing on the b, bb grapheme this week.
Homework will commence in Week 5 for K-6 as outlined in last night’s parent information sessions.
Below is a link from the NSW Department of Education which provides a detailed glossary of English terms used in both primary
and secondary schools.
