COM It has been 45 years since John, Paul, George, and Ringo landed in the United States, greeted by thousands of screaming fans, and the Fitchburg Senior Center wants to celebrate. “We didn’t happen to be watching TV that night, we were watching TV because the Beatles were on Ed Sullivan,” said Ward 3 Councilor Joel Kaddy. The Beatles cover band, Beatles for Sale, will per- form some of the group’s greatest hits on Feb. 7 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Senior Center. Volunteers will deco- rate the stage to imitate the original “Ed Sullivan Show” stage to honor a group whose music defined a generation. “They were really part of our youth,”said Senior Cen- ter Director Joan Goodwin. Other decorations will include pictures of the Beatles first landing, con- certs, and other represen- tations of the mass hys- teria of “the British inva- sion.” “There was no keeping the girls down,” recalled planning volunteer Jon Ricciutti. The band will perform three sets, lasting about an hour each, of hits from “Can’t Buy Me Love,” to “Twist and Shout.” Kaddy is making tra- ditional English fish and chips with homemade tartar sauce for dinner. “Annie DeMartino gave me a secret recipe for the fish from Ireland that has something to do with the Beatles,” said Kaddy. Proceeds for the event will go to help recover the losses the Senior Center incurred as a result of the Ice Storm of 2008. The Senior Center served as the location of an emergency shelter during that storm, which drained many of the facili- ties resources. “For 12 to 13 days, this was the home for thou- sands,” said Goodwin. The event was almost cancelled when the storm hit, but Goodwin and other staff members decided to proceed and turn what was a rough situation into something positive. “I booked this back in October and we decided to go through with it in order to bring people together and help recuperate losses for the Senior Center after the ice storm,” said Good- win. Some proceeds will go directly to the Senior Cen- ter heating fund, which was established in July of 2008. Goodwin says that she bought 15 heaters in November for the heater exchange program, and already needs to make another purchase of heat- ers. With one of the snowi- est winters on record half over, many heating assis- tance resources for seniors have already been drained, making the timing of this event all the more impor- tant. “I am finding that it is now that the seniors are in need,” said Goodwin. Tickets are $15 per person or $25 for a couple. They can be purchased by contacting the Senior Center, City Hall, The Rabbit Hole, or Gomes Liquor. Tables of six, eight, or ten can be reserved by calling (978) 345-9598. Tickets are also available at the door. 1,098 The British Invasions seems like ‘Yesterday’ Beatles cover band to play benefit concert Saturday To celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Beatles invasion, cover band Beatles for Sale will be invading the Fitchburg Senior Center for a concert this weekend. It has been 45 years since John, Paul, George, and Ringo landed in the United States, greeted by thousands of screaming fans, and the Fitchburg Senior Center wants to celebrate.

“We didn’t happen to be watching TV that night, we were watching TV because the Beatles were on Ed Sullivan,” said Ward 3 Councilor Joel Kaddy.

The Beatles cover band, Beatles for Sale, will per-form some of the group’s greatest hits on Feb. 7 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Senior Center.

Volunteers will deco-

rate the stage to imitate the original “Ed Sullivan Show” stage to honor a group whose music defined a generation.

“They were really part of our youth,” said Senior Cen-ter Director Joan Goodwin.

Other decorations will include pictures of the Beatles first landing, con-certs, and other represen-tations of the mass hys-teria of “the British inva-sion.”

“There was no keeping the girls down,” recalled planning volunteer Jon Ricciutti.

The band will perform three sets, lasting about an hour each, of hits from “Can’t Buy Me Love,” to “Twist and Shout.”

Kaddy is making tra-

ditional English fish and chips with homemade tartar sauce for dinner.

“Annie DeMartino gave me a secret recipe for the fish from Ireland that has something to do with the Beatles,” said Kaddy.

Proceeds for the event will go to help recover the losses the Senior Center incurred as a result of the Ice Storm of 2008.

The Senior Center served as the location of an emergency shelter during that storm, which drained many of the facili-ties resources.

“For 12 to 13 days, this was the home for thou-sands,” said Goodwin.

to bring people together and help recuperate losses for the Senior Center after the ice storm,” said Good-win.
