Fraserburgh FC Official Matchday Programme

Today we welcome the players, management, officials and supporters of Nairn County to Bellslea Park for our Press & Journal Highland League tie. Our last home game against champions Brora Rangers ended in a disappointing 2-1 defeat but we ran them closer towards the end but overall there is no argument with the result. We fared better on Wednesday night away to Clach where we recorded a 2-1 victory. I didn’t see the game but while I believe we rode our luck slightly I do also think we deserve some luck as we haven’t had a lot of that so far this season. But that’s football and you have to take the good with the bad. Congratulations to Ryan Christie who made his 250th appearance for the club on Wednesday. Well done Boomer and sorry I missed it. The fact we had to travel to Inverness on a Wednesday night is not good but we have to accept that. We cannot expect to complete an 18 team league season without scheduled midweek games. I have been fortunate enough to have been in a position to see first-hand the problems in getting a league programme sorted and it is nowhere near as easy as some people seem to think. The loss of revenue to Clach on Wednesday would have been substantial and the fact that some of our supporters who would normally have been at the game couldn’t do so because of the distance to travel and getting time off their work. We were four players down to the same reason but that is how it will have to be. Today we take on a Nairn side that will be hurting from the heavy loss on Wednesday night but that can happen from time to time although it has been happening a lot in

our league this season. Circumstances dictated the result on Wednesday as it was only 2-1 when the Nairn goalkeeper was sent off. Against a team like Brora you need to keep eleven men on the pitch as they are clinical when given the opportunity. Make no mistake, Nairn County are a very good side and have a very experienced manager who will looking for a reaction from his players this afternoon. It is a sad week for the club with the death of former player and director Kenny Roger. There is a piece elsewhere in the programme about Kenny but when I heard the sad news on Tuesday night I was completely stunned. Kenny was somebody I had immense respect for and always enjoyed his company. He always made me laugh and his death is a real shock. He lived his life like he played his football; hard, honest and above all fair. On behalf of everyone at the club we pass on our condolences to Alison, Vicky and Craig. Come awa the Broch Finlay

Fraserburgh FC Official Matchday Programme

Since your last programme notes you have picked up two wins away to Keith and Clach whilst suffering two home defeats to Buckie Thistle and Brora Rangers. How have you viewed the performances and how happy in general are you with the start to the season? To be honest I have been disappointed in our home form as that is normally where we are strong. But on the other hand 3 wins and a draw away from home is very good. It is consistency which we need to find as some games we have played very well and some we have been very poor. If we had won 2 out of our 3 home matches then we would be sitting in a very comfortable position but there is still a long way to go yet. It is work in progress as I am still learning this side of things but I am a winner and I will do whatever it takes to make sure we are successful. Are you worried that you have failed to pick up any points from your home matches so far and that goals seem hard to come by? I wouldn't say goals are hard to come by as there hasn't been a game where we have failed to score. I feel that we need to tighten things up a bit and defend better as a team. Just now teams are getting at our back line too easy so that is something which I will have to change. Gizzy and Willie have both scored a few already and others have popped up with important goals so I know we have the ability to score against anyone. You have brought in Marc Lawrence on loan from Peterhead until January. How impressed have you been with him so far and what can he bring to the squad? I threw in straight in at the deep end and to be fair he has performed really well. He is a big strong lad for his age but also comfortable on the ball. He still has a lot to learn about the game but that will come with experience. I am happy we were able to get him in and must thank Jim McInally and Peterhead FC for allowing us to take him on loan.

Nairn will be smarting from their defeat to Brora Rangers in midweek albeit they lost their goalkeeper shortly after the break. Does that make today's match any tougher? It's not nice to play teams after they have had a bad result as more often than not they come out fighting. Look at Brora last time after they were beaten by Cove. They came up and were professional against us and showed why they are the best team in the league. Nairn have some excellent players especially in the forward line with Gethins and Duncanson. So again if we are going to get anything then we will have to be at our best. But we have something to prove and want to get our first home win under our belts so we will be up for this game. I would like to say a couple of words on some people we have lost this week. Kenny Roger was a great man and football daft whether it be Fraserburgh or Scotland. He has done a lot for this club over the years and we are in debt to him for his contributions. He was always a great supporter of the club and has given me some vital advice from time to time. Not least to my Grandfather who was also a big supporter of me and the Broch who sadly passed last weekend. No doubt they will both be cheering us on today. All the best, Mark.

Fraserburgh FC Official Matchday Programme

Nairn county player profiles 1. Calum Antell (goalkeeper). Possess of all the attributes to be a successful modern day goalkeeper – agile, quick, spreads himself well and extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet. Now in his first full season at the club having won the Supporters’ Player of the Year prize last season despite only joining in October. 2. Sean Webb (defender). Great organiser at the back with an abundance of experience having played in the full time ranks and been capped by Northern Ireland. Possesses a fantastic ability to read the game and has been an integral part of the defence since joining the club in 2011. 3. Paul Macleod (defender). A defender who never shirks a tackle. Came through the club's youth system and is a fans favourite. Also comfortable playing wide in midfield or sitting in the middle of the park. Plays with his heart on his sleeve and always gives his all for his home town club. 4. Michael Morrison (defender). Club captain and a vastly experienced centre half. Comes with a real winners’ mentality and hates getting beat. Boasts a Highland League championship medal in his vast collection, so knows what is required to lead the team to glory. 5. Martin MacDonald (defender). One of the longest serving players at the club having joined in 2005. Developed over the years into one of the most consistent centre halves in the league. A real aerial presence who can also pick out a pass. Received a testimonial match in the summer. 6. Wayne Mackintosh (midfielder). Tough-tackling midfielder who came through the club’s youth ranks. Energetic player who is equally adept at winning the ball back as he is at utilising it when in possession. One of the longest serving players in the squad having debuted as a 16-year-old in 2004. 7. Ross Naismith (midfielder). A real flair player with an eye for goal. Capable of scoring some very eye-catching strikes from his attacking midfield role. Now entering his fourth full season at the club having originally joined on loan from Ross County. 8. Alan Pollock (midfielder). Signed from Clachnacuddin in January 2014 and made a goal scoring debut with a fine strike in the 8-1 win at Keith. Capable of playing wide on either side of midfield or in a central role, he has the pace and ability to cause defences an abundance of problems. 9. Conor Gethins (striker). Now in his fifth year with the club and boasts a fantastic goals-to-games ratio in this time at Station Park. A real Rolls Royce of a forward who is equally as likely to score from 30 yards as he is from one yard, his repertoire of strikes includes some of the best goals you are ever likely to see at this level. 10. Gregg Main (midfielder). Local midfield player with finesse and the ability to pick out a defence-unlocking pass in the final third of the park. Never shies away from his defensive responsibilities and is always willing to track back to help out when required. Provides energy and a winning mentality in the midfield engine room. 11. Sam Urquhart (striker). Lively attacker who never gives defenders a moment’s peace. Successful first season at Station Park saw him awarded the club’s Young Player of the Year award. Has the pace to cause any defence problems which is complimented by his extraordinary spring to win aerial battlers against far taller opponents. 12. Bradley Halsman (midfielder). Previously played in the youth teams of Aberdeen and Motherwell before moving on to Partick Thistle where he played in the SPFL Championship. Joined the club last summer after a successful trial spell. Holding midfield player who snuffs out opponents’ attacking moves in their infancy allowing

his attacking team mates to spring into action. 14. Andrew Hardwick (defender). One of a trio of players who joined in the summer from Fort William playing a major role in the Lochaber club’s most successful ever Highland League season. Hungry centre half who is strong and good in the air. Has all the physical attributes to succeed at Highland League level. 15. Andrew Skinner (defender). Summer signing from Clachnacuddin where he spent two seasons after coming through the youth ranks at Inverness CT. Powerful full back who can also operate centrally in defence or in a midfield role if required. 16. Adam Naismith (defender). Wiry full back who joined his brother Ross when signing for the club. Can also play in a number of positions across the back as well as in the middle of the park or out wide. Consistent performer regardless of what position he plays. 17. Callum Maclean (midfielder). Neat and tidy midfielder who joined the club from Fort William in the summer, where he won their Clubman of the Year award. Very comfortable on the ball and happy to take possession even under pressure. Rarely wastes a pass or loses possession. 18. Robbie Duncanson (striker). Had a great season last year finishing with more goals to his name than in previous campaigns, including some memorable strikes such as the efforts away at Huntly and at Keith. An intelligent, team player who loves running at defenders and leaving them trailing in his wake. 19. Glenn Main (defender). Capable of playing anywhere on the park, he excelled last season at centre half and emerged at the end of the campaign with the Players’ Player of the Year award. Another of the club’s local talents, he is a very consistent and steady player who rarely has a poor game. 20. Dylan Maclean (goalkeeper). A young shot stopper who joined the club after featuring as a trialist for Clachnacuddin last season. Came highly-recommended to the management team, who saw enough of the youngster in training to offer him a permanent deal. Will provide competition to Calum Antell and Sam Maclean for the number one jersey on match days. 21. John Cameron (striker). A forward-thinking player who can also play wide in midfield. Possesses the delightful knack of weighing in with a number of important goals over the course of the season. His pace causes defences problems and he can run all day long but is also a threat with his back to goal. 22. Kenny McKenzie (midfielder). The final of the three summer signings from Fort William, this left-sided midfielder actually trained with the club last season before moving to Claggan Park to sample Highland League football. Having gained confidence from playing regularly for the Lochaber side, he returned to Station Park in the summer ready and raring to kick on. 25. Sam Maclean (goalkeeper). Promoted to second choice goalkeeper this summer and is deserving of his opportunity to challenge Calum Antell for a starting spot between the posts. Came through the club’s youth ranks and has been refining his game training alongside the club’s first team goalkeepers in recent seasons. 99. Tony Wallace (striker). Summer acquisition who has experience in the SPFL Championship from his time playing for Greenock Morton. Powerful attacker who can play as a centre forward or just off the front and joined the club on the verge of the start of the season after scoring in the friendly against Ross County as a trialist.

The not so Swinging Sixties

As we entered a new decade, when the Beatles and Rolling Stones would top the charts, the Broch were propping up the League. At the AGM, Secretary Mr E Park appealed to the town to give the club more support. As so often happens in football, if you are not winning, people won’t turn out. The line up for the new season was: Stroud, Husband, Milne, Auld, Bruce, Chalmers, Strachan, Ogilvie, Fraser, Noble & Rollo. The fixtures got underway with a 2-0 win at Princess Royal against the Vale in the League Cup. New signing Fraser from New Pitsligo made a scoring debut and Johnny Strachan scored late on to make it 2-0. New centre half Bruce had an outstanding debut, as did goalkeeper Arthur Stroud. We met the Vale at Bellslea on Saturday August 17th. The Broch were 1-0 up after a debatable penalty, then Fraser made it 2-0 after 67 minutes, rounding the keeper and rolling the ball into the net to give us a promising start to the season.

Two defeats at the hands of Huntly and a 3-3 draw with Peterhead followed and despite finishing with a 1-0 victory at Recreation Park it was not enough to get into the League Cup Semi Finals. With a home tie against Lossiemouth in the Qualifying Cup we needed to hit a bit of form, but it was not to be as Lossie progressed with a 2-1 win and it was looking like it would be a long time before the glory days would return. A 2-2 draw at Peterhead and a 3-1 victory at the Bellslea over the Christmas period gave the Broch supporters a bit of cheer. The Broch’s away form that season was a disaster, with no-one knowing what to expect. Results like 6-3 at Huntly, 6-1 at Buckie Thistle, Inverness Thistle and Deveronvale, 5-1 at Lossiemouth and 8-3 at Caley didn’t make for good reading in the Green Final. On February 4th we were at Peterhead in the 1st Round of the Aberdeenshire Cup. Cumming made it 1-0 early on for the home side, before goals from that old was horse Strachan in 41 and 49 minutes put the Broch in front, but Cumming struck again to make it 2-2. Simpson scored the winner for the visitors on 80 minutes to earn a semi-final place. A home tie to Huntly followed on February 18th but, again it was not to be the Broch’s day with the final score Fraserburgh 1 Huntly 3. Elgin City won the League that season with a play off against Keith at Victoria Park, Buckie. The Broch finished 4th bottom with a record of – Pld 28, W 8, D 7, L 13, F 58, A 80, Pts 23 The last home game was on April 8th and the Broch gave a debut to a young goalkeeper by the name of Bobby Forsyth (Spicy) who was later to become a legend in football folklore. The match ended Broch 2 Rothes 2. The sixties were in full swing. You could go along to the Dalrymple Hall and dance to Tommy Tucker and the Strangers for an admission of 3/-, A “Herald” cost 2d. The summer would be spent down at the harbour. Do you remember the pee-pod lorries? They used to stop at the weighbridge across from where Smith’s Fish Shop is now. The lads would pinch a bunch of peapods from the lorry and head to the black sands and eat them until we were sick. The lorries were heading for Maconnachie’s where the pods were processed into tinned peas.

Kenny Roger 1947 – 2015 Kenny Roger is up there with the best of players who turned out in the Black & White of the Broch. In excess of 500 appearances from the mid 60’s to September 1987 he was a stalwart of the Broch side and was a fearless competitor. Spells at Peterhead and Deveronvale were sandwiched in between spells at the Bellslea but he always came back to the team he loved best. He was at his peak in the 1970’s and was the backbone of a great side who many argue didn’t win the things they should have. He was in the team when I started watching the Broch and his tough tackling made him a favourite with the supporters. He epitomised the player that era looked for with his never say die attitude and every supporter likes nothing better than a player who is giving his all for their team. That was Kenny. He was extremely fit all through his career which helped him to play until he was 40. His last game was a 1-0 victory here at Bellslea against Keith. The date was 12th September, 29 years ago today. The following Saturday we played Lossiemouth away in the Scottish Qualifying Cup and Kenny was replaced at centre half by the John Duthie (Butcher). John went on to retain his place in the side. It is sad that both of these fine players are no longer with us. Kenny returned to the club as a committee member and subsequently a Director when the Broch went to a Limited Company. When the Broch won the league title at Allan Park in 2002 I was standing with Kenny at the final whistle where we enjoyed a huge celebratory hug. I remember him clearly saying to me “pit ma doon ye fat b**tard, ye’ve broken ma ribs” That’s what I loved about Kenny, always straight to the point but with a huge smile on his face. That moment will live with me forever, two guys caught up in the fact that the club which meant so much to them had won the thing they had dreamed of. I was lucky to have known Kenny both on and off the field, at football and at work and will miss seeing him here at the Bellslea. He was a passionate Scot, a friend to many and was very proud of his family. He has left a huge hole in a lot of lives but will be fondly remembered. Last Saturday they won by 2 goals to nil away to Keith. All at the supporters club would like to wish Alex Mair a very happy retirement. Last Friday he reached his 65th birthday, but thankfully he will continue to coach with the Broch. Congratulations to Graham Johnston who played his 400th match for the Broch in the Brora game. Bertie Bowie 146 unknown In the corresponding fixture from last season the Broch won at the Bellslea by 2 goals to 1 with goals from John Chalmers and P.A. Bruce. Our last home game was against Brora, a poor penalty decision at the end of the first half gifted Brora a goal, which they added to at the start of the second half. Had we scored earlier than we did then we may have rescued something from the game. We will be running a supporters bus to the Formartine game next Saturday 19th of September which will leave from the Elizabethan Bar at 1:00pm. Bus prices are £8 for adults and £5 for others. We hope to attract new members to the supporters club as we have kept our membership and bus prices at the same cost as last year. Non members are also very welcome to travel to games but they will have to pay an extra £2. Our bus info page will tell you the cost and times of bus travel, we leave for home right after the final whistle. The hospitality raffle has been selling well and it will be drawn towards the end of the year. Tickets are on sale costing £2 a ticket with two winners enjoying some refreshments at a home game of their choice. Fraserburgh FC Club News Player Milestones Wednesday night at Clachnacuddin saw Ryan Christie make his 250th appearance for the club. He has scored 32 goals in the process. While work commitments took him away from the club from 2008 to 2011, Ryan has also had to overcome a serious back injury and a knee injury which has curtailed his appearances. Given the two injuries he has done incredibly well to reach this milestone. Ryan signed initially 15 years ago on a Schoolboy form progressing to his first team debut away to Keith in the Qualifying Cup on 28th September 2002 in a 2-1 defeat. Well done Ryan. Little over a fortnight ago Graham Johnston scored his 150th goal for the Broch and against Brora Rangers he notched up his 400th appearance for the club. The Broch and Peterhead have agreed a loan deal for youngster Marc Lawrence. Hopefully this loan will be beneficial to both clubs and more importantly the player himself. Marc went straight into the team for last Saturday's match with Brora Rangers and acquitted himself very well. The deal was concluded on Friday afternoon and will last until 6th January 2016. Fraserburgh FC tie in agreement with Dicks Sports to sell Replica Kits We are delighted that Duncan Leel of Dick's Sports has agreed to be our official outlet for all our replica kits. Fraserburgh FC Supporters Club would like to thank Duncan from Dick's Sports for his help in producing a new Players Player of the year Trophy. The old Trophy was showing its age and had the scars to show for it. Duncan has engraved all the old winners’ names onto the new Cup which keeps the awarding of the Trophy historically correct. All at the Supporters Club would like to thank Duncan for his help with this project and also for all the Trophies he has produced for us through the years.

Fraserburgh FC Official Matchday Programme

Huntly v Rothes The bottom two meet at Christie Park and Huntly have Gary and Adam McNamee unavailable, while Alex Thoirs and David Christie also miss out. Rothes are searching for their first win since the opening game of the season, and they’re likely to have the same squad that lost heavily to Turriff in midweek. Prediction: Home Win Inverurie Loco Works v Wick Academy Locos were narrowly beaten at home to Cove last time out and the likes of Jordan Leyden and Martin Laing will be pushing for recalls to the starting line-up against Wick. Martin Bavidge is doubtful after taking a knock against Cove. Wick boss Gordon Connelly has a fully-fit squad to choose from as they welcome Grant Campbell back into the squad. Prediction: Home Win Keith v Fort William Keith pushed high-flying Formartine all the way in midweek and have only Aaron Scully missing with work commitments for the visit of Fort William. Fort welcome back Andrew Hardwick and Dougie MacLennan, but will be without Andreas Broomfield, Matthew Grant and Donald MacPhee, who all have work commitments. Prediction: Home Win Strathspey Thistle v Lossiemouth Strathspey were unfortunate to come away with nothing from Princess Royal Park in midweek after dominating the game. They remain without Adam Macleod and Gary Kerr for the home clash with Lossiemouth. Lossie are likely to go with the same squad who saw off Huntly on Wednesday night, minus Willie Mathers. Connor Hall could return from holiday in time to play. Prediction: Score Draw

Brora Rangers v Formartine United Brora were mightily impressive at Nairn in midweek, good preparation for a big test against in-form Formartine at Dudgeon Park. The home side will have the same squad available for this one. The visitors could have a doubt over defender Johnny Crawford, after he went off early in their victory over Keith. Prediction: Home Win Buckie Thistle v Turriff United Buckie had a good win at Fort William during the week and will be without the injured Andy Low, Andy Burr and Kai Ross for the visit of Turriff. Sean Wood also misses out. Table-topping Turriff will be missing Jamie Beagrie, James Chalmers, Stuart Cumming and Chris Stuart. Lewis Davidson and Lyndain O'Brien are also doubtful and will face late fitness tests. Prediction: Away Win Cove Rangers v Clachnacuddin Cove continued their 100 per cent start to the season with a hard-fought win at Inverurie on Wednesday night. Harry Milne is their only absentee, while Jonny Smith is doubtful with a shoulder injury. Visitors Clach have lost four on the bounce and will be without Jamie Doran, Ian Penwright, Daniel Maclennan, Michael Finnis and Andrew Fraser for the trip to North Lodge Park. Prediction: Home Win Forres Mechanics v Deveronvale The Can-Cans will be looking to end a poor run of form when they take on Deveronvale at Mosset Park. Scott Moore and Aaron Mclellan are both unavailable for Forres, but Steven Fraser returns from suspension. Deveronvale gained a much-needed win against Strathspey, but will be unable to field trialist Martin McMullan after his sending off in that game. Prediction: Score Draw

Fraserburgh FC Official Matchday Programme

Marc Dickson, Defender, Age 27: Peterhead lad, Marc is one of the most senior players at the club now. He is regarded as one of the best full back/defensive midfield players in the league with his ball winning and passing ability and pops up with the odd goal as well. Marc has now made over 300 appearances for the club. Appearances: 335; Goals: 14 Courtney Cooper, Defender, Age 21: Courtney burst into the 1st team five seasons ago making his debut at Rothes and hasn’t looked back. Courtney can play at full back or in midfield, composed on the ball & a good passer. He has already racked up over 100 appearances for the club scoring a number of crucial goals. Appearances: 146; Goals: 25 Brian Hay, Defender, Age 26: Another young Broch loon who has become an invaluable member of the first team. Bryan is still relatively young but is very assured on the ball and calm under pressure and has the pace to keep up with most forwards. Been with the club for 9 years and has amassed over 250 appearances. Appearances: 261; Goals: 10 Ryan Cowie, Defender, Age 23: Ryan has been with the club for three seasons now having been signed from Turriff United. He is the younger brother of Mark and Dean Cowie and has a bright future ahead of him. He can play wide on either flank but was used more often at left full back last season. His delivery from the left and from corners and free kicks cause many dangerous situations for opponents. Appearances: 105; Goals: 7 Stuart Taylor, Defender, Age 21 One of Mark Cowie’s close season signings Stuart has previously played for Peterhead and Turriff United. Mainly operates as a right back although he can play at centre half as well. Stuart has already impressed with his defensive qualities and sure to feature prominently in the first team this season Appearances: 3; Goals: 0 John Chalmers, Midfielder, Age 21: Johnny has made over 100 competitive appearances for the first team now and is fast developing into a key member of the team. He has a good range of passes and not afraid to get stuck in despite coming up against more experienced opponents in the midfield engine room. Has also taken over penalty kick duties for the club. Appearances: 110; Goals: 8

Paul Leask, Goalkeeper, Age 26: This is Paul’s seventh season with the club taking over the No 1 shirt when Billy Gordon retired. Has now made over 200 appearances for the club and is an excellent shot stopper. Signed from Peterhead Paul was the Players Player of the Year in 2011. Out injured all of last season. Appearances: 208 Scott Cowe, Goalkeeper, Age 23: Scott rejoined the club in 2013 after a couple of years away. He commands his penalty area very well and can be heard barking out orders to his teammates from far afield. Good in one on one situations Scott shared the goalkeeping duties with Joe Barbour last season. Appearances: 50 Joe Barbour, Goalkeeper, Age 22: Joe is a local loon with a lot of promise. He has made several first team appearances and has also been loaned out at Junior level to gain valuable experience. Played an integral part in winning the Aberdeenshire Cup last season. Appearances: 20 Edward Flinn, Goalkeeper, Age 19: Young goalkeeper who joined the club last season having been on the books at St. Johnstone. Ed is likely to feature at U20 level this season. Cameron Buchan, Defender, Age 19: Cammy is in a similar position to Joe having made several first team appearances but mostly loaned out to Juniors clubs. He is very composed on the ball and good in the air and is an excellent dead ball taker. Appearances: 14; Goals: 0 Russell McBride, Defender/Striker, Age 36: Signed for the Broch 19 years ago but spent two seasons at Elgin City between that time. As club captain Russell is a great leader and one who the younger lads look up to. A tough tackling defender Russell is also very skilful and chips in with the odd goal at set pieces. Has now clocked up over 500 appearances and lifted the Aberdeenshire Cup last season at Kynoch Park. Appearances: 534; Goals: 92 Ryan Christie, Defender, Age 30: Ryan rejoined the club when Kris Hunter took over as manager and brings a wealth of experience and skill to the centre of defence. He suffered a serious injury two seasons ago and slowly made his way back to fitness playing twelve times last season and should make an impact again this season. He is a regular scorer from set pieces and penalty kicks. Appearances: 250; Goals: 32

Fraserburgh fc player profiles

William West, Midfielder, Age 27: Willie is an assured midfield player with an eye for goal having notched 17 last season from an advanced role behind the strikers. He is another player who despite his young age has amassed over 350 appearances for the club. Scored his 100th goal for the club in the victory over Strathspey Thistle last season. He has a great range of passing and is excellent in the air can also adapt to a defensive role if required. Appearances: 393; Goals: 105 Dean Cowie, Midfielder, Age 28: Experienced campaigner Dean has rejoined the club after three seasons with Peterhead the last of which was blighted by injury. His experience will be vital as the Broch look to challenge for more honours and on his day there is not a better midfielder in the Highland League. Appearances: 28; Goals: 8 Grant Thomson, Midfielder, Age 20: Grant joined the club three seasons ago from Ross County and has mainly played for the Aberdeenshire League side where he has excelled. Now a permanent fixture in the first team squad where he has impressed from a central midfield role. Appearances: 18; Goals: 0 Hamish Burr, Midfielder, Age 19: Made his first team debut in the 3-1 win at Huntly two seasons ago but bad injury last season hampered his first team chances. Small, diminutive wide player with good pace and tricky on the ball. One to watch for the future. Appearances: 1; Goals: 0 Adam Cross, Midfielder, Age 17: Adam is similar to Hamish in build and looks like he will turn into a classy wide player. He has plenty of pace and is skilful on the ball. Likely to feature regularly for the U20s this season. Appearances: 2; Goals: 0 Graham Johnston, Forward, Age 29: Graham played for Scotland Schoolboys and has the capability to play in any position. One of the Broch’s and the Highland League’s best players on his day. Graham is the leading scorer at the club and has a happy knack of notching vital goals just like his double in the Aberdeenshire Cup Final victory over Buckie Thistle last season. He is the Broch’s main threat from set pieces. Appearances: 401; Goals: 150 Grant Noble, Forward, Age 28: Former Deveronvale and Turriff United player Grant joined towards the tail end 2012/3 season. Despite injury problems he featured on a regular basis last season scoring 3 times. He will be remembered for the

vital winner against Montrose in the Scottish Cup two years ago. Grant will be looking to fill the void left by Scott Barbour’s departure. Appearances: 55; Goals: 9 Peter Alexander Bruce, Forward, Age 25: P-A signed for the Broch on a permanent basis from Peterhead FC at the start of 2013/14 season having had several loan spells with the club. He is a tricky player, with two good feet and plenty of pace. He has a great shot on him and has found the net 38 times including the winner in the Aberdeenshire Cup Final last season. Appearances: 96; Goals: 38 Steven Davidson, Forward, Age 20: Steven actually made his debut against Nairn four seasons ago scoring in that game. He was farmed out to the Juniors to continue his development. Scored eight times last season from 27 appearances, he is good in the air and has a great shot on him as he has demonstrated notching several important goals. Appearances: 60; Goals: 12 Aidan Combe, Forward, Age 17: Joined the club last summer having previously played for Keith at under 17 level. It was during a match against the Broch where he came to the Broch’s attention with his attacking wing play and pace causing all sorts of problems for the Bellslea side. Scored his first goal for the club at Keith last April. Appearances: 26; Goals: 1 Jordi Walker, Forward, Age 18: Jordi made his debut as a substitute in the match against Deveronvale at Bellslea Park last season. He has earned this on the back of some impressive performances in the Aberdeenshire League and will look to push for a more regular first team slot. Appearances: 7; Goals: 0 Mark Cowie, Manager, Age 30: Mark took over as manager of the Broch when Kris Hunter decided to move to pastures new in April. His experience and calmness from his playing days will be of great assistance to the younger members of the playing squad. He is sure to bring fresh ideas to the team whilst staying true to the club’s philosophy of bringing through young talent. Appearances: 242; Goals: 25 Mark is ably assisted by James Duthie who has a wealth of experience at Highland League level, Alex Mair who has been on the Broch’s coaching staff for several years now and new faces Steve Doak goalkeeping coach, Brent Bruce fitness coach, Ross Cardno club physio and Leanne Reid assistant physio. There are also two community coaches Shelley Sutherland and Paul Finnie who play a tremendous role with the young age groups.

Buckie thistle match report

Press & Journal Scottish Highland Football League Saturday 15th August 2015 Fraserburgh v Buckie Thistle, Bellslea Park, Fraserburgh The visitors were out of the blocks fast at Bellslea Park with a couple of early efforts which thankfully for the home side went well over the bar. The Broch’s first attack saw Ryan Cowie cross to the back post but his dangerous ball evaded Courtney Cooper as he tried to meet the ball. On six minutes Johnny Chalmers dispossessed Jay Cheyne in the middle of the Buckie half and the young midfielder let fly from 25 yards which the Buckie keeper saved at the second attempt. On 15 minutes a cross by Shaun Carrol from the left was met by Chris Angus but his header flashed wide from a good position. A couple of minutes later Bryan Hay was dispossessed by Paul Napier who found Kevin Fraser but his header was well saved by Scott Cowe. Ryan Cowie then fired in a free kick from 20 yards which Greig Sim held comfortably. Buckie almost claimed the lead before the break when Paul Napier’s cross found Chris Angus in the box but Scott Cowe did well to save the Jags player’s effort. Half Time: Fraserburgh 0 Buckie Thistle 0 The Broch started the second half on the front foot and after 10 minutes Aidan Combe found Cooper at the back post and his header was saved with the ball breaking to Graham Johnston who returned the ball into the box but Marc Dickson couldn’t find the target. A minute later Bryan Hay was fouled on the edge of the box after a 1-2 with Willie West. Johnston whipped in a free kick from 20 yards that went just past the upright.

On the hour the Broch had another chance when Combe found Johnston and after he played a 1-2 with Willie West he could only scuff his shot straight at Sim in the visitor’s goal. The Broch took the lead on 69 minutes when Cooper won the ball and played it to West on the right wing; he cut inside and curled a great shot past Sim from the edge of the box. Ten minutes later the game was tied though as the ball broke to Kevin Fraser 25 yards out and he hammered home a low shot for the Jags. With five minutes remaining Cowe launched a long ball forward which found Johnston and he headed it on to Cooper who lashed his shot over the bar. Buckie grabbed all three points in injury time after a controversial penalty kick given when Hay was adjudged to have pulled back Angus in the box. Shaun Carrol made no mistake with the resultant kick. Full Time: Fraserburgh 1 Buckie Thistle 2 Fraserburgh: Scott Cowe, Marc Dickson, Russell McBride, Ryan Cowie, Ryan Christie (Kane McCory 76), Bryan Hay, John Chalmers, William West, Aidan Combe (Bailey Simpson 71), Graham Johnston, Courtney Cooper Subs: Stuart Taylor, Adam Cross, Jordi Walker, Cameron Buchan, Paul Leask.
