WHY?
To bond as a division and celebrate the end of school!
Where will you be?Personally, I’ll be on the
football field at Edmonds Woodway High School, participating in the South Snohomish Relay For Life! Community-based events like Relay For Life are excellent ways for our division to get out and show how we are more than just a high school club. Now that it is June, there are many service opportunities for the
summer, however, there’s probably less events that Key Club is doing. Don’t let summer be an excuse to stop volunteering! Rather, use it as an excuse to become an even more dedicated member. Some of my favorite volunteer events are during the summer: there are marathons, clean ups, and other fun outdoor events. But Key Club-wise, summer reminds me of... Seattle Rally! This year, I hope that every club in our
division will be represented at Kent-Meridian High School on August 13th!
DIvision 21’s long-term goals are to have all 12 clubs in their area have active status, be efficient in fundraising and awareness for Key Club International’s Major Emphasis projects as well as Pacific Northwest District’s projects, and have complete communication between all clubs regardless of distance.
However, our biggest goals are those stated by Key Club International:To provide service, build character, and develop leadership.

summer!
“What can I even do during the summer with my Key Club?”The answer: plenty! Need to raise club funds? Organize a one-day fundraiser! Want to socialize and meet other Key Clubbers? Come to DCMs and Seattle Rally! There are so many opportunities during the summer-it’s just up to you to take them!
“Uh... I don’t know what’s going on.”Communication is key! Officers, it is your job to stay in contact with your members through facebook, email, text, etc.! Members, vice versa, please attend your summer events and take advantage of all the hours you can rack up during the summer! Especially if your school has graduation requirements, you can get them out of the way and avoid stress during the school year!
“No one signs up for events.”/”I don’t want to go if there’s not a lot of people!”Don’t worry about members not going to as many events during the summer. To avoid any awkward situations, have events where you don’t need to know the exact amount of people going, so if there’s any last minute drop-outs, there’s no stress! As for those who think summer events are boring, think of it as a way to get to know the Key Clubbers you’ve constantly seen, but never talked to!
“Just what is Seattle Rally?”Seattle Rally is almost like a mini-DCON, but only for one day, and way cheaper! You go to information sessions, meet Key Clubbers from all over Seattle, and watch a talent show! This year, it is on Monday, August 13th, from 9AM- 4PM at Kent-Meridian High School. Lunch will be provided.
Postmarked!: Sending Thank You LettersWhat’s the value of a good thank you letter? Not only does it make someone
feel appreciated for their generosity and help, but it’s polite and necessary. Write thank you letters for: donations, a person going out of their way to help your club, locations that allowed your club to hold an event, etc. So what exactly is in a
thank you letter? Here’s an example:
Dear John Doe,Thank you so much for your donation towards the Eliminate cause and your
support of Washington High School’s Key Club. With your generosity, 20 mothers and their children are now completely protected from tetanus! We are now only $200 away from our goal of $700 for the year towards
Eliminate, and our project was even covered in the Washington Herald! We couldn’t have done it without our community.

How easy is that? With just one card, an envelope, and a stamp, you can go thank-you-crazy, and show how appreciative you really are! Although writing multiple letters might get a little dry, have fun with it and don’t sound like you were forced
to write it. You can even get creative with your thank you’s. This past Valentine’s Day, the Meadowdale Key Club officers sent roses to our faculty advisor, and the teacher whose classroom we use for meetings. Small shows of appreciation go a
long way!

Q.Why did you Join Key Club?A. Over 4 Years ago, I looked in my brother’s high school yearbook and decided that Key Club would be the first club I joined when I got to Jackson. Besides the clever name, Key Club stood out to me as a way to reach out into the community and the world.
Q.What are you most looking forward to as secretary?
A. As Divisional Secretary, I look forward to assisting Rachael in administering the best division!
Q.What are your goals as secretary?A.My goals this year are to increase the activity
of all our clubs and help the division make an even bigger impact in our communities.
“Hey Division 21! I'm Chester Pham from Jackson High School and I am excited to have the opportunity to serve as your Divisional Secretary. For all of you who went to DCON, I am still in shock that we won the spirit stick! Unfortunately, a handful of our clubs did not attend and are still inactive within the division. This is one of the issues I want to help Rachael address this year. By integrating these clubs into our division, we can strengthen our relations and increase our impact. I look forward to being an additional resource for clubs in the division and serving the community... Service is the Key.”

Q.Why did you Join Key Club?A. I had never really been involved in community service before, and I wanted to get involved and make some new friends.
Q.What are you most looking forward to as webmaster?
A. I look forward to meeting new people from around the state and participating in great service projects. As an officer, I’m glad I have the opportunity to use technology to get Key Club on the web.
Q.What are your goals as webmaster?A. I’d like to collaborate with other schools to
share new ideas; crowdsourcing community service will allow students to make a greater impact on the world. Also, I hope to promote service and increase membership throughout our division.
“Hey Key Clubbers! My name is Eric Grewal and I go to Monroe High School. Key Club has been a great experience and has allowed me to get involved in my community and make some new friends. As a club vice president, I look forward to meeting new Key Clubbers and working with members from other schools, as well as get involved with Kiwanis. As a webmaster, it'll be great fun experimenting with computers and learning more about programming. I’d like to use this to allow us students to make a greater impact on the world. My advice to you this year would be to get involved! Key Club is a rewarding experience, and service is a life-long commitment. I hope to see you all at the DCM!”

Service with... Mountlake Terrace Key Club
Although they weren’t in contact with our division
until this past April, service is nothing new to Mountlake Terrace Key Club. Actively involved with their Kiwanis Club and involved in their school, they provide an
example that all the clubs in our division can take some inspiration from! Here’s the lowdown on what Mountlake Terrace did in 2011-2012:
“During this last school year, the Mountlake Terrace High School Key Club has been extremely active in our local community. We participated in a huge school-wide food and toiletry drive, we adapted families during the holidays, we had another glasses drive, we wrote letters to servicemen and women through Operation Freedom, we made personalized Valentine's Day cards for MTHS staff members, and we greeted sailors coming back on the U.S.S. Ford in Everett. Our 60+ member club plans to march in the Tour de Terrace parade in Mountlake Terrace in July and next year we plan to become more involved with what's going on at other Key Clubs and work with other clubs on service projects.”
Great job, Mountlake Terrace Key Club! Keep it up!

June’s member of the month is Jinha Park! As Hyoeun
said, I noticed that Jinha was always at the DCM’s, and as club secretary, actively posts on the Kamiak Key Club Facebook page. She has done her secretary reports on time, and showed her bumblebee spirit at DCON! It
makes me very happy to have dedicated members like Jinha in our division.

MAY DCM RECAP!

“DCM was fun, especially with the surprise showers. I think on behalf of the people who did stay in the rain, I would say anyone can really see the inclusiveness of key club. Taking pictures, goofing off, and cuddling under the big toy (to avoid getting wet) is arguably better done than said, thus this DCM was equally if not more fun than the last, and regardless of the itinerary the ice breakers and food are always something to look forward to.”

“Hey Bumble Bees! The May DCM was great! It started out so hot that Jinha and I both felt that our jeans were burning. And then…. The rain came and our sun dances failed. We had a potluck and bonded through
ice breakers. Come to the June DCM!”
Kiwanis Division 22 DCM:
A big thank you to Kiwanis Division 22 for inviting us
Key Clubbers to their DCM! The Kiwanis were very
welcoming, and it was interesting to hear about the
events that they had coming up, such as a golf
competition and a divisional game of “capture the
flag”. A special shout out to Lynnwood and
Meadowdale Key Club members who also came out to
the DCM that day!
Club Updates
LynnwoodLynnwood has been working with their local
elementary school, Martha Lake Elementary, and volunteered at their carnival by helping set up for the event and running game booths. On June 9th, they will be
participating in the South Snohomish Relay For Life. So far, they have raised $1,050 towards American Cancer Society!
MarinerMariner has been getting ready for the end of the
school year, and recently had their End of the Year Potluck. This was their last club meeting as they shared food and said goodbye to their seniors.
MeadowdaleGetting ready for the South Snohomish Relay for Life,
Meadowdale has been fundraising money at school. For their two teams, they have raised a total of $2,973 towards
American Cancer Society!
MonroeRecently, Monroe also had their local Relay for Life,
which Monroe Key Club volunteered at. They helped out with their school’s blood drive, and have made plans to
help out with the summer camps at the YMCA.
JacksonJackson Key Club is just about the wrap up for the
year! They have been actively volunteering at Silver Lake Elementary School by reading with the kids and helping out with activities. They have plans for an exciting new
project next year with Seattle Children’s Museum. Lastly, they will be volunteering with the new food bank in Mill Creek, by helping unload and load the food donations.
KamiakOn April 21st, Kamiak took advantage of the sunny
weather by holding a car wash to raise money for their Key Club!

Children’s MuseumTake a cue from Jackson High School and contact either the Imagine Children’s Museum or Seattle Children’s Museum. These programs thrive off of volunteers!
Lemonade StandHaving a lemonade stand for your charity of choice is a fun and easy way to raise a little money while keeping that summer spirit.
