THE BUZZN e w s l e t t e r f r o m t h e G r e e n s l o p e s S t a t e S c h o o l P & C
A MESSAGE FROM THE P&C PRESIDENTWelcome to our first edition of theBuzz newsletter for 2020 - full ofP&C information and advice. TheBuzz comes out each term and is agreat source of information. Don’tforget to also check the P&CFacebook page for more regularupdates. This is my last Buzz as P&CPresident. The last 4 years havebeen a great experience for me andallowed me to step out of mycomfort zone and grow. It wasnever my intention to be president, and certainly not for 4 years! Bothour kids were at GSS during those 4years, and high school seems tohave come way to quickly! My kids have seen me contributeto our school community, and I’dlike to think it will help them to beactive community members whereever they end up in in life.Volunteering at our school is avisible way to show our kids how tobe a part of something bigger thanthemselves, to embrace diversityand to challenge yourself.

FRIDAY MORNING CAFE
A little over a year ago the Containers for Change Scheme
was started to help increase recycling and reduce the
number of drink containers that litter our environment.
In the first year of the scheme over 1 billion containers were
returned, and 700 new jobs created for Queensland.
Greenslopes State School is proud to be a successful part of
this scheme and last year we recycled over 30,000
containers and earned over $3,000 for the our P&C.
We collect containers in the purple wheelie bin at the front
school gate each morning before 9am. There are reusable
collection bags in a bucket near the gate that you can use to
bring your containers to school.
Containers can also be donated to the P&C via any collection
centre in Queensland using the scheme code #C10028875.
This code can be used by anyone who lives in other parts of
the state but would like to contribute to our school.
A collection point and information table will be at the
Welcome BBQ. See us there if you have any questions about
the scheme or email [email protected].
Thanks for making this scheme a success for our school!

From Year 2, we allow children to come and buy ice creams over the counter, after the
second bell has gone. Please make sure they keep their money in a secure place though,
as a lot of children seem to lose their money. Unfortunately if they don’t have
the money they can't get an ice cream.
Double check that you have hit the ‘confirm’ button when placing an order, and that
you have done this for the correct day. We have a lot of orders that accidently get
placed for a Thursday when it was meant for a Tuesday, so if you can please double
check this, it would be greatly appreciated!
Sushi is only available for Thursday’s second break, and the cut-off time for ordering is
8am Wednesday.

School banking is also a great
fundraiser for our school. Our
school receives $5 for every
10 deposits per student, as
well as an annual contribution
based on the number of
students who deposited.
School banking is available
each Friday before assembly
from 8.30-9.00am, at the
Tuckshop window. Mrs Lane
is looking forward to seeing
some new faces at the
banking window this year.
BANKING NEWS
Our year started off busy, with
three days of after school care
booked out and a waiting list
established. As our intake of
children has increased since
last year, particularly during
before school care, we would
like to remind everyone that it
is essential for families to notify
OSCA of their children’s non-
attendance as soon as possible.
This allows us to make spaces
available for those on the
waiting list.
A reminder to families that we
provide breakfast during before
school care, with children
having the option of white,
wholemeal and raisin toast,
with jam, butter and vegemite
spreads; Cornflakes, Rice
Bubbles and Weet-Bix, fruit
yoghurt, and the option of Milo
and milk. Due to the increased
number of children attending in
the morning this year, we now
serve breakfast from 7:15-
8:15am. Please ensure your
child arrives in time for
breakfast if needed. Children
with special dietary
requirements will need to have
their breakfast provided by
parents, which they may eat at
OSCA within the breakfast
serving period.
We thank all parents for their
patience, and we welcome all
new families to OSCA. We are
all looking forward to a great
year ahead.
