    20 SALARY SURVEY

    CA MAGAZINE MARCH 2014

MORE THANfour out of 10 CAs inour annual UK salary survey say

their overall pay package has notkept pace with the cost of living, and

just over one in four say they have

had no increase in their basic salary

    over the past 12 months.

    For the three-quarters who did

receive a cost of living increase,

however, the median was in the 2.1

    to 3 per cent range.

    Meanwhile, austerity measures

    continued to soften slightly over

the past 12 months, with fewer CAs

(27 per cent) reporting a pay freeze

(last year it was 34 per cent) and a

slight fall in the numbers reporting

reduced bonuses (see page 22).Nonetheless, around 10 per cent

report that they are very satisfied

with their remuneration and 65 per

    cent are satisfied (the equivalent

figures for last year were 10 per cent

and 67 per cent). Of those polled,40 per cent say they would pursue

a new job if the right opportunity

came up and 9 per cent are actively

    seeking a new job.

    Ian Wilkinson, director at

    recruitment consultants Wilkinson

    & Associates, commented: The

    jobs market for accountants is

    presenting a mixed but improving

    picture, and a sustained recovery

is far from certain. However, there

are signs now that employers are

realising they have to take the right

steps to attract and retain staff.
