Morris College embraces the student-athlete and recognizes the importance of the individuality of each student. Volleyball,
cross country, women’s basketball, men’s basketball, softball and baseball are among the leading sports that make up the

Minister Jarren A. Johnson, a 2014 honors graduate of Morris Col-
lege where he majored in Criminal Justice, delivered the Sunday
morning message on October 14, 2018. While a college student he
served as vice president of his freshman, sophomore, junior and sen-
ior classes and was a student ambassador. He was recognized for his
academic and leadership acumen by being listed in Who’s Who
Among Students in American Colleges and Universities (2012-2014).
In addition to being on the Dean’s List (2011-2014), Johnson was a
Morris College O.R. Reuben Scholar (2013) and was inducted into the
Morris College Leadership Program (2012). Currently, he is pursuing
a Master of Arts degree in Criminal Justice-Public Administration.

The Morris College Ambassadors are among the college’s most spirited “Hornets” whose passion and love for the college shine through
every opportunity they get to represent and promote a positive image of Morris College. In addition to expanding their knowledge of the col-
lege and gaining leadership skills, they take a lead role in welcoming prospective students and visitors to the campus by serving as guides
when groups come to tour the campus. They are also involved in assisting new freshman during orientation.
The new blazers were donated by Dr. Juenarrl Keith, a 1989 graduate. The ties were donated by Mr. Isaac Wilson, Class of 2011, and
Rev. Napoleon A. Bradford, Class of 2000. Students interested in becoming ambassadors are asked to contact the advisor, Ms. Deborah C.
Calhoun at ext. 3225.

On Friday, October 12, 2018, the campus community gathered in the Neal-Jones Auditori-
um for memorial services honoring Mr. Elbert Solomon Taliaferro. The fellow Hornet was a
member of the freshman class and resided in North Charleston, SC.
Mr. Dy’Shaan T. Johnson, Solomon’s roommate, spoke of his friend’s strength and smile,
and how nothing he was going through kept him from smiling. The Rev. Michael Gary, Solo-
mon’s math instructor, noted that he was an acute, keen and avid listener he was. “Words
of Comfort and Encouragement” was delivered by Rev. Dr. Charles M. Pee. The college min-
ister, taking his thoughts from I Corinthians 1:3-4, recommended the God of comfort to
those bereaved and grieving. “There is only One who can heal hearts broken by grief, who
can bring peace to troubled souls.”
Dr. Leroy Staggers, College President, concluded the services by reminding all that Solo-
mon’s spirit and memory will always live in our hearts. “In that way Solomon will always re-
main a part of the Morris College family.” He told those in attendance that they should take
comfort in their unity.
Solomon and his mother, Ms. Deidra Taliaferro, were thrusted into immortality, as the
resulted of a fatal automobile accident in Georgia on Wednesday, October 3, 2018. They
were traveling to Alabama to attend his grandmother’s funeral. Elbert Solomon Taliaferro
