If there’s one thing I’ve learnt in life it’s to always be your best self. For me, as the ‘sh’ in Cash, my best self is using the experiences I gain from my passions as an extension of myself. Those passions are fashion, travel and writing. For the ‘ca’ in Cash, photographer Cameron Clegg, it’s all about surfing, cooking and photography. So as a culmination of five years in the making we bring you The Cash Collective, a travel guide with new cities featured each month with the best in fashion, beauty, shops, restaurants, bars and clubs.
The Cash Collective (TCC) will continue to be an extension of us, as we hope it will be for you. We welcome your feedback whether you choose to connect with us on social media or send us an email we value each and every one of our readers.

SYDNEY’S TECH SAVVY FASHION ELITE ARE PUSHING BOUNDARIES
THE PHOTO DINER
Meet Gaby Howard, 30, a former publicist and Nadine von Cohen, 32, a journalist. Together, the high-school BFFs from Sydney, Australia launched the The Photo Diner in November 2012, the much-talked-about photo sharing and product tracking platform between fashion brands and the media. “If content is king, then photos are the crown jewels,” insist the girls and we couldn’t agree more. Which is why TCC asked TPD to give us a tour of their top hot spots in the city they call home, Sydney. Who else knows fashion and fabulous haunts then two of Sydney’s hottest new entrepreneurs?!

Don’t miss Feast Fridays, where you pay for a small or medium plate and then get to choose from a sumptuous array of buffet-style dishes spread out on the counter.
LOX, STOCK & BARREL140 Glenayr Ave, Bondi+61 2 9300 0368loxstockandbarrel.com.auAn Israeli-inspired café from the team behind another one of our fave joints, Brown Sugar. Nadine loves the Raw Breakfast Salad with Labne and Challah, while Gaby is all about the Smoked Mackerel on Toast.
THE APOLLO44 Macleay St, Potts Point+61 2 8354 0888theapollo.com.auModern Greek-inspired food with a great wine list and really friendly staff. We highly recommend everything, but especially the saganaki, the calamari, and the brussels sprouts.
RAW BARCorner Warners Ave & Wairoa Ave, Bondi Beach+61 2 9365 7200rawbar.com.auOur favourite spot to celebrate a business win, Raw Bar is a Bondi stalwart. Seriously good sushi and delicious cocktails by the beach.
EMMA’S ON LIBERTY59 Liberty St, Enmore+61 2 9550 3458emmasonliberty.com.auAmazing modern(ish) Lebanese food in the inner west, Emma’s is a hidden Sydney treasure. Memories of the lamb and pomegranate Lady Fingers are the only reason Nadine occasionally regrets becoming a Vegetarian. There’s always the Halva Ice Cream though.
FRANKIE’S50 Hunter St, Sydney Cityfrankiespizzabytheslice.comIt is impossible to have a bad time at Frankie’s. Fact. A giant dive bar with American-style pizza by the slice and the best tunes in town, there are always a million stories to tell after a night at Frankie’s.

THE NORFOLK305 Cleveland St, Surry Hills+61 2 9699 3177thenorfolk.comThe Norfolk has the best Bloody Mary and margaritas in Sydney and arguably the best pub tacos too. This is a great pub for a quiet mid-week drink or a Sunday afternoon cocktail.
RUBY’S DINERShop 1, 173-179 Bronte Rd, Waverley+61 404 379 585rubysdiner.com.auRuby’s is our home away from home, and office away from office. We spend a ludicrous amount of time (and money) here, and it is where The Photo Diner was born. Our business name is indeed an homage to our favourite place. The coffee is amazing, the staff lovely, and the poached eggs with cucumber salad and chilli jam addictive.

Yet while Paul Andrew’s CV may read like the who’s who of fashion, it’s his year-old shoe label that has this shoe designer spilling all kinds of soleful stories.
You started your career working at Alexander McQueen. What was it like working with Lee?Well, I was more of an apprentice then and there were a lot of people in the studio. So I wouldn’t say anything specific about shoes but about creating in general. He would look at a sketch or an idea and really take it to the next level, to something that you would have never come up with. I mean he was a real genius. It’s such a sad loss that he’s gone.
It certainly is. Later you worked with Donna Karan for ten years. What’s the best lesson she taught you?About the position of the heel. She always favoured this more underslung silhouette, where the heel comes under the shoe. It really was so ingrained in my skull that the heel has to be in a certain position in order to be confortable. If the heel is too far back or too far under you have this risk of feeling like you’re swaying backwards or forwards. I’m preaching to the choir here, I’m sure you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Where did the idea for your first collection come from?I remember at that time everyone was doing these towering platforms, these ridiculous drag queen shoes, so my idea was to return to this lightness, this new elegance in shoes that introduced a series of new single sole silhouettes, and now everyone is doing the single sole.
I’m also really drawn to ethnic cultures and the folk arts of those cultures. You see the influence in the shoes, there’s embroidery, feather details and colouration.
PAUL ANDREWQ&AHe’s interned at Alexander McQueen, designed shoe collections for Calvin Klein and Donna Karan and now he’s fashion’s hottest new eponymous shoe-in.
Your spring collection is also quite vibrant...There’s a series of styles with flower prints (pictured) which is the inspiration of the spring collection. They’re actually inspired, and also in collaboration with New York artist, Andrew Zucherman. I wanted to do flower prints but I was having trouble finding images that didn’t have horrible copyright regulations attached. So I picked up the phone and called Andrew and he was very open to working with me.
How did you create Paul Andrew, the shoe?I’m probably only one of the only designers who still goes to Italy and handcrafts the last detail. I handmake every pattern because I’m just so obsessed with the way that they do fit.
How do you test the fit of your shoes considering you design women’s footwear?I have a fit model in New York and in Milan who trial everything. Yet I’ve been doing this for so long that I can see from a mile away if a shoe is going to fit or not. It’s just something that you learn over the years.
TALKING POINT : SHOES
THE CASH COLLECTIVE I ISSUE 1 NOVEMBER 28
Who’s your shoe idol?Probably Manolo. There’s something about the femininity and the constant sexiness of those shoes. You can really tell a Manolo from a mile away.
Who is Paul Andrew behind the brand?I don’t really match the shoes I’m designing. It’s interesting though that I never wear colour myself. I’m wearing navy today but that is a very rare occurance as it’s normally black and white for me only.
Why only Black and White? I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently but if I’m wearing colour on my body it’s distracting for me when I’m selecting colours for the collection or I’m trying to build the collection. I sort of need a clean palette on my body to create something more bright and colourful for someone else. Is that weird?
What shoes do you wear?In the summer I always wear sandals. When Stefano Pillati was at Saint Laurent I wore a lot of Yves Saint Laurent shoes. I’m actually working with Stefano now and launched these shoes for Anyon with him, that;s the new brand he’s designing. In the winter I wear a lot of boots. Always leather. I worked with Calvin Klein for many years, so I’m wearing still a lot of my own shoes from my own closet.
What’s next for Paul Andrew?Menswear may very well be something that I decide to do in the foreseeable future. And then in the next 12 to 24 months, open our own shoe salon where you really can offer the full breadth of the collection. I think we’d probably open in New York first because that’s where I’m based and it’s easier to control it when you’re close by.
Paul Andrew is currently sold at Level Shoe District, Dubai as well as across the United States, United Kingdom, Asia, Canada and Europe. For more information on Paul Andrew visit paulandrew.com.
PAUL ANDREW’S THINGS TO DOIN NEW YORK
1 There are so many amazing places in New York. My office is dangerously close to Rizoli book store and I can spend hours and hours and hours parading the shelves of that store.
2 My favourite museum is probably Moma. They always have the most incredible exhibition and they’re always changing.
3 Then there’s this incredible store downtown on Crosby Street and Howard called De Veera. It’s a store that sells home objects but it’s the most well-curated store that you would ever see. A lot of them are antique objects. I could spend hours there but I could go bankrupt. My home and my offices are slammed with objects.

Tucked away in the world’s largest shoe store, Level Shoe District, is the Margaret Dabbs London salon. If there ever was a foot heaven, this would be it. While The Sole Lounge specialises in podiatry there are treatments available for your tips and your toes. From rumours about cuticle cutting to horror stories about foot scraping, it was time to set the record straight. While Margaret Dabbs talked us through the do’s and dont’s of foot care podiatrist, Simone, pulled out the tools for the trade. From cuticle sanding (excess removal is fine, cutting is a no-no) to mild foot scraping (yes, it is okay if it’s done by a trained professional on dry skin), our feet emerged better than they ever have before. For someone that has perpetually cracked heels, and couldn’t find a solution, I can happily say I’ll be making a return visit every six weeks. Gents, Margaret Dabbs also has The Sole Lounge for Men right next door.

MARGARET DABBS’ TOP 3 TIPS
+ Wear socks with your ballet flats. Even leather will react with your feet
and cause redness.+ Don’t cut your cuticles.
+ Don’t scrub your feet after soaking them in water, always insist
on a dry pedicure. It’sbetter for your skin.
