WEEKLY STATISTICS

Weekend of 23/24 February 2019 1st Collection £749.00 2nd Collection £386.54

Mass attendance 704 (does not include Polish count) These figures do not include Standing Orders

Monday Saint Casimir

(1458-1484) He was the son of King Casimir IV and Queen Elizabeth, monarchs of Poland and Lithuania. In contrast to other members of the royal court, he was a shining example of faith, piety, humility and chastity. He had a great love for the Eucharist and the Virgin Mary. He was named Patron saint of Poland in 1602.

Ash Wednesday Day of Fasting & Abstinence

Thursday Saints Perpetua & Felicity

St Perpetua, a young mother of noble birth, and St Felicity, a heavily pregnant slave girl, were imprisoned at Carthage in 203 because of their Christian faith. Before they met their death, Felicity gave birth to a girl and Perpetua was still nursing her new born son. They were thrown to wild beasts in the arena. The passion of St Perpetua provides a particular vivid account of their martyrdom. They are included in the Roman Canon.

Friday Saint John of God

(1495-1550) He heeded the Word of God when he was already forty two years old and from then on lived at the service of the sick in Granada (Spain). Before that he was successively, a farmer, soldier, and merchant. He founded his Order of Brothers Hospitallers of St John of God, devoting themselves to the infirm in soul and body.

Saturday Saint Frances of Rome

(1384-1440) St Frances was a married woman, and a mother of 6 children. She was zealous in the performance of every house-hold duty, saying, ‘A married woman must often leave God at the Altar to find Him in her household care.’ She patiently endured many trials, including the death of two of her children, the exile of her husband and the confiscation of their estates. In 1433 she founded the Benedictine Oblates of the Tor de’Specchi to contin-ue her works of charity, and after her husband died in 1436 she became their superior. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
