and the promotion of Catholic values. We offer pastoral care through ministries that provide education,

healing, spiritual growth and social outreach in the Carmelite tradition.”

WELCOME

TODAY’S GOSPEL MESSAGE Sunday, June 10th

Mark 3:20-35 “A crowd seated around [Jesus] told him, ‘Your mother and your brothers and your sisters are outside asking for you.’ But he said to them in reply, ‘Who are my mother and my brothers?’ And looking around at those seated in the circle he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.’”

“As is typical, Jesus moves quickly through a growing crowd in today’s Gospel, rebuking those who misunderstand his power, warning those who blaspheme against the Holy Spirit, and redefining their understanding of family. When we act in accord with the Spirit, we show our kinship with Jesus, ‘for whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.’”

“Actions speak louder than words. Let your words teach

and your actions speak.”

– Saint Anthony of Padua

Dear Brothers and Sisters of Our Lady of Mount Carmel,

You may know that we celebrate about 50 funerals a year here at OLMC. Most are still in the church. Some families choose funeral Masses and some choose Memorial Masses. But they are held in church, as they should be, so that we can honor the deceased AND repeat our belief in eternal life.

One of my standard statements during wake services and funeral homilies is that “we will remember our deceased in prayer as long as there is breath in our bodies.”

I bring this up today to thank the many parishioners who attended Mass on Friday, June 1 in memory of the anniversary of Fr. Leonard’s passing. We also had the Academy Cap and Gown Mass at the same time, but we did pray for Fr. Leonard and I thank all those who came to do so.

Then, over the weekend, we hosted a wake for Sr. Nora Lohan and had her funeral Mass on Monday, June 4. I especially thank all the many present and past parishioners who came to pay their respects and to pray for Sr. Nora’ s eternal happiness.

Thank you for sustaining our practice of praying for our departed. May they all rest in peace.

Sincerely yours in Christ and Our Lady of Mount Carmel,

fr. Dan [email protected]

What is RCIA? Is RCIA for You?

RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. The Church welcomes into the RCIA process of preparation persons who have never been baptized, those already baptized in another Christian tradition, or baptized Catholics who have not received First Eucharist or Confirmation. The celebration of Christian initiation takes place at the Easter Vigil liturgy. If you or someone you know has been thinking about becoming a member of the Catholic Church, but would first like information about the process, please call Sr. Regina at 201-871-4662.

What Parents Should Expect From A Religious Education Program

According to an information estimate by the National Catholic Education Association, somewhere between eighty and ninety percent of Catholic children now receive religious education in parish religious education programs. What should a parent expect from a religious education program?

Here are six: • A professional educational director • Well-prepared catechists • Well-balanced curriculum • A parish liturgy that teaches and inspires • Help in preparing children for sacraments • An introduction to Scripture

What Parents Should NOT Expect From A Religious Education Program

What should a parent not expect from a religious education program?

Here are three: • A program that teaches everything your child should know

about the faith. Families are the primary religious educators of their children. Catechists and the religious education programs provide additional materials to assist parents in this role.

• A program that can keep kids Catholic. Families have the opportunity and environment to provide Catholicity for their children.

• A program that solves family problems. Religious education is not about disciplining children. It’s about learning the Gospel and being formed in the faith. It is only with parental involvement that the real goal of religious education—passing the faith on to our children—becomes possible.

Interested in sharing the Catholic faith with the young people of our parish community? You’re

invited to become a Children’s Liturgy of the Word catechist!

If you are an adult who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation and are interested in sharing the Catholic faith with the young people of our parish community, please consider joining the Children’s Liturgy of the Word ministry. Please fill out the Ministry Sign-up Form that can be found on page 6 of this bulletin and return it to the Church Office or the Religious Education Office, or drop it in the Sunday collection basket.

missed a test this morning. Please be seated, leave several desks in between the two of you and take out a piece of paper.” Still smiling, the teacher waited for them to sit down. Then she said, “First question: Which tire was flat?”

END-OF-THE-YEAR SCHEDULE

A Note from the Principal…

We have completed our spiritual and educational adventures during the month of May.

Our Spiritual Side…The month included a very successful Carmel Cares 2018. We served the homeless, wrote cards to Veterans, and collected supplies for our Medical Mission. We celebrated the dedication of the month to our Blessed Mother has afforded us many opportunities to spend time in prayer – May Crowning, First Eucharist, Mother’s Day, praying the rosary – each a special tribute recognizing Mary as having a special place in our hearts and also in the spiritual expression of our Catholic faith.

Our Academic Side…At OLMC we are very fortunate to learn in many and varied ways. In addition to our daily classroom activities using text and tech, we are fortunate that our curriculum enables us to pay visits to many places that bring our learning to life.

Our Artistic Side…Our OLMC Arts program is one of the premier programs in all of Bergen County. We are so fortunate to be able to foster creativity and awaken innate talent among our students.

Our Physical Side…In addition to our regularly scheduled physical education classes, great performances at our OLMC Track and Field events along with our Warrior Field Day activities showcased our attention to our physical needs.

Please check our remaining end-of-the-year events on this page. We offer sincere congratulations to our Class of 2018.

Best wishes to Mrs. Ellen Mathason and Mrs. Mary Paone, who have offered a combined 50 years of service to OLMC! We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and wish you health and happiness as you move into the next phase of your life’s journey!
