From Ms Kelbrick: Special discounted bike lights offer

Following on from a ‘cycle safety’ assembly, we want to encourage all our cyclists to have a reliable set of bike lights, especially as we are heading into the winter months. We are able to offer a significant discount on a set of high quality ELA4520 bike lights which usually retail at £9.99. Students will pay £5 and Cherwell Scholars will pay £2.50. If you are unsure whether your child is a scholar or not, please get in touch. If you would like to buy a set, please have students bring cash or cheques payable to ‘The River Learning Trust’ to the year 7 office on South.

Classical Music 

Classical music is all around us, and learning a little about it can open up whole worlds of 

understanding and enjoyment.  This lecture will overview the history of classical music, 

through focusing on a number of justly famous and much loved composers and pieces.

GCSE Art Catch Up Club Monday and Wednesday after school Art 1 with Ms McLaughlin + Ms Lovelock (see poster)

Unless you have specific permission or part of GASD you will not be permitted to use art rooms unattended at lunch, breaks and after school.

For 2017/18 there are lots of ECF run National School Chess Tournaments that we can enter. They cater for a wide range of playing ability, so please do email Miss Bates (mbates@cherwell.oxon.sch.uk) if you are interested in playing at any level. You can also find more information on the ECF website: http://englishchess.org.uk/NSCC/. Under 19 Championships Any school or sixth form college can enter teams of 6 players. Strong teams qualify directly for the spring term regional rounds. Others play at qualifying tournaments in the autumn term. 16 teams will play at a two day National Final at Uppingham School in July 2018. Girls’ Under 19 Championships Any school or sixth form college with female pupils can enter teams of 3 female players. One day semi-finals in early 2018; two day national final in Easter holiday 2018 Team Chess Challenge Any secondary school can enter teams of 4 players. Weekday afternoon qualification events in schools around the county in the autumn and spring terms, final at Imperial College in April 2018. Junior Team Chess Challenge Any school with students in Years 7 and 8 and below. Afternoon qualifying events in the autumn and early spring terms, one day national final at Hertford College, Oxford in April 2018

Cross Country

Cherwell teams were outstanding at the Level 2 Schools Games cross country event on Tuesday, with medals coming in from every race. We bagged 3 gold’s and 2 silvers at the games. Gold’s came from Grace Whitty in the year 8/9 girls race, Louis Enscat in the 8/9 boys race and Bella Whitty in the year 7 girls race. Our 2 silvers come from Harry Richards in the year 7 boy’s race and Jamie Scott in the year 8/9 boy’s race. All runners ran brilliantly and Cherwell come top in every race for the team positions securing qualification into the finals.
