Welcome! Thank you for joining us for worship. In our service we gather before our almighty God to offer him our worship and praise. We also gather to strengthen ourselves through the study of God’s holy and powerful word. We are glad to be here and glad that you have joined us today!

• Restrooms are located in the main hallway, narthex, and back classrooms.

• If you wish to step out of the service to calm your child, please feel welcome to use the fellowship hall or the Toddler Sunday School room (located in the back corner classroom of the building, connected to the fellowship hall). Both of these rooms have televisions showing the worship service. Also, please do not hesitate to ask an usher or any member if you need help locating anything. We want to make you feel welcome.

Serving the Lord and Serving Us: Pastor Paul Jenkins Keyboard: Peggy Garrett Today’s Focus: When God reveals his saving work in Christ, he moves believers to obey him and to declare his love to the world. Our worship follows Morning Praise.

We Come into the Presence of God

PASTOR’S GREETING AND INTRODUCTION TO WORSHIP MUSICAL INTRODUCTION This is an opportunity to quiet your mind and heart and prepare for the joy of worshipping your God. STAND MORNING HYMN:

Tune: © 1993 Northwestern Publishing House; All rights reserved. Reprinted under ONE LICENSE #735256-A CONFESSION OF SINS

M: Dear friends, let us approach God with a true heart and confess our sins, asking him in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us.

C: Lord of life, I confess that I am by nature dead in sin. For faithless worrying and selfish

pride, for sins of habit and sins of choice, for the evil I have done and the good I have failed to do, you should cast me away from your presence forever. O Lord, I am sorry for my sins. Forgive me, for Jesus’ sake.

ABSOLUTION

M: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. In his great mercy, God made us alive

in Christ even when we were dead in our sins. Hear the word of Christ through his called servant: I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son (+) and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

M: Let us pray. O God, protector of the faithful, you alone make strong; you alone make holy. Show us your mercy and forgive our sins day by day. Guide us through our earthly lives, so that we do not lose the things you have prepared for us in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

PSALM 100

Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.* Worship the LORD with gladness;

come before him with joyful songs.*

Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his;*

we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Refrain Enter his gates with thanksgiving

and his courts with praise;* give thanks to him and praise his name.

For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;*

his faithfulness continues through all generations. Glory be to the Father and to the Son*

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,*

is now, and will be forever. Amen. Refrain

THE WORD FIRST LESSON

Exodus 19:2-8a Israel was the creation of God’s divine love. He set them apart as a “kingdom of priests” to live holy lives and proclaim the Lord’s works. After they set out from Rephidim, they entered the Desert of Sinai, and Israel camped there in the desert in front of the mountain. 3 Then Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain and said, “This is what you are to say to the house of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: 4 ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. 5 Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, 6 you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.” 7 So Moses went back and summoned the elders of the people and set before them all the words the Lord had commanded him to speak. 8 The people all responded together, “We will do everything the Lord has said.”

SECOND LESSON

Romans 5:6-11 When we were still “sinners,” “enemies” of God, “powerless,” and “ungodly,” Christ died to bring us back to God.

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! 10 For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11 Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

GOSPEL AND SERMON TEXT

Matthew 9:35–10:8 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” 10 He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness. 2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. 5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. 7 As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.”

APOSTLES’ CREED C: I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

LORD HAVE MERCY – KYRIE

M: In the morning, O Lord, I call to you; be merciful to me and hear my prayer. C: Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

PRAYER OF THE CHURCH: FOR SUCCESS OF THE WORD

M: O Lord, light of the world and saving strength of your people, we thank you for the gift of your word. Implant it in the hearts of your people, so that, set free from the power of Satan and the fear of death, we may live to serve and honor you.

Pour out your Spirit on us, so that we may grow richly in divine knowledge and spiritual understanding. Bless the proclamation of your Word everywhere, so that hearts may be turned from the darkness of spiritual ignorance and despair to the light of knowledge, truth, and life. Be with our missionaries in our own and distant lands. Protect them, encourage them, and crown their labors with success.

Let your word shine in our homes, so that parents and children may dwell together in love and serve one another in kindness and humility. Watch over the sick, the sorrowing, the anxious, and the weary. Preserve those who are in any danger of body or soul. Supply us by the grace of Jesus with the Spirit’s power, to be comforted by your truth and sustained by your love.

Special Prayers

For these and all the other things you know we need, we confidently ask in the name of him who gave himself for us, so that we live through him, Jesus our Lord. Amen.

LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

C: Amen. M: Let us praise the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

New Admin Position Filled Congratulations to Dawn Knox, who will begin as Trinity’s new Administrative Assistant this week! Air Duct Cleaning During the coming week, all three systems of the church’s air ducts will be cleaned, and Benefect Deacons 30 anti-microbial will be applied. This chemical-free product, made from extracts of thyme, has no health warnings and kills 99.99% of germs. We are also looking at adding an air scrubber system, which would address more bacteria and germ concerns. Thank you, Bob Pett, for this work to keep our property as safe as possible! New Copies of “Forward in Christ” The August edition of “Forward in Christ” is available in the narthex. If you are waiting to return to in-person worship and would like a copy, please let pastor know and he will get it to you a copy. Taste and See: Now through July 11 The WELS Missions office has partnered with the Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society (LWMS) to host an online event called Taste and See that is happening now through July 11. This first-of-its-kind event combines the very best of Taste of Missions and the LWMS convention to provide all WELS members an opportunity to be an important part of gospel outreach occurring in the synod. Visit welstasteandsee.com, for more information. 2020 VBS Kits Trinity will not be holding an onsite VBS program this year. Instead we are offering free, at-home, VBS kits to children and families. The kits will include family devotions, a colorful Arch book, crafts, songs, snack ideas, and games. Members and friends of Trinity can pick up their kits starting Sunday, July 12. If you cannot pick up your kit after worship on Sunday, please contact Pastor Jenkins to set up a time to pick up your kit at church the week of July 13-17, or let him know if you would like him to deliver your kit to you. On Saturday, July 18 Trinity will also host an outdoor Meet and Greet event, where people from the surrounding community can stop by and pick up a boxed lunch and a VBS kit to go. VBS volunteers will have a ZOOM meeting on Thursday, July 2nd at 7pm to finalize the event plans. For questions, please contact Vicki Pett.

Trunk or Treat – Save the Date! More details will be coming, but for now please mark your calendar Saturday, October 24 from 3:00-4:30 pm as Trinity’s Trunk or Treat Party. This free event will invite children from the neighborhood to get their first taste of trick-or-treating, have some snacks, and decorate pumpkins in Trinity’s parking lot. The event can be held, if necessary, with distancing and all other appropriate safety measures in place. Please watch this space in the weeks ahead as we get closer to the date! Trinity Fall Yard Sale Trinity is tentatively planning an outdoor yard sale this fall. No date has been set. Right now, we are asking members to hold on to smaller items such as clothing, shoes, purses, jewelry, electronics, toys, housewares, art supplies, baby items, etc. to donate. If you are interested in volunteering or if you have any questions, please contact Kerry Coleman-Proksch. Help Greet Our New Neighbors If you had to guess, how many new households would you say moved into Trinity’s zip code last month? 50? Way too low. 100? Keep going. The right answer is: 147! That’s an awful lot of new neighbors in one month! In the future, we would like to send a letter to all of Trinity’s new neighbors each month welcoming them to the area, introducing them to Trinity, and inviting them to join us. If you would like to help with effort (which will take some work!), please speak to Pastor. Pre-K Teacher Job Opening in Manassas Little Stars of Bethlehem Early Learning Center in Manassas is looking to hire a Pre-K teacher (4 year-olds) for the fall. If you have experience in early childhood education and are interested in applying for the position, please contact Cheryl Vergara, the center’s director.
