Dear Friends, Happy Mothers’ Day to all of our mothers, grandmothers, Godmothers, and those who, in any way, are mother-figures. The love that you give to those in your lives whom you nurture and care for is unmatched on this earth, and it is so right that we take this day to honor all of you for what you do each day. It is also fitting that we remember with love our deceased mothers, and pray that they be given the reward by God promised to all those who, in this life, are faithful. As we begin this month of May, we recall that it is traditionally the month in which we honor in a special way Mary, the mother of Jesus. Mary is so many things to us as people of faith: an advocate, an intercessor, a friend, a guide, a role model, and, perhaps over and above everything else, a mother to us, just as much as she is to her son, Jesus. Contemplating the importance of Mary and all of our mothers in our lives, we recognize them as true heroes. We have been hearing that word frequently during these days of the COVID-19 pandemic, for, indeed, there are heroes all around us, particularly those who are on the front lines of this crisis, including our dedicated medical personnel, our police officers and fire fighters and other first responders, our funeral directors and their staffs, and so many others who, each day, are literally risking their lives for the good of us all. But mothers are heroes to us in all ways and at all times: nurturing us, supporting us no matter what may come, building us up, and, perhaps over and above all else, loving us without measure. Today is truly a day to give thanks for these true heroes with whom we have all been blessed, and to ask Mary’s motherly intercession, especially that she guide us through this “valley of tears” in which we finds ourselves at this present moment in time.

I once again take this opportunity to thank all those who have continued to support the parish financially in these challenging times. Your support is vital to our survival. I humbly ask everyone to please, if you are able, continue to financially support Saint Timothy’s by using your weekly offering envelopes, even though we are not gathering for Sunday Mass. If you are able to mail your envelopes to the rectory or bring them personally, I would be most grateful. Please remember as well that we have online Parish Giving available, through which you are able to make your weekly contribution safely and electronically online. The link for this is on our parish homepage, and if you click on to the Parish Giving link, the directions on how to begin the process are very easy. If you have any questions, please call the rectory and we would be glad to assist you.

I remind you especially of the importance of the Easter collection. This is one of the most important

collections of the year, and it assists us in so many ways in keeping our parish financially sound. I ask you, as always, to please be as generous as possible.

Please know that you and those you love are daily remembered in my Masses and my prayers.

Love and prayers, Father Olivere

PCA Grab and Go Meal Sites for 60 and over -

PCA is operating a series of grab and go meal distribution sites for older adults, aged 60 and older, to provide nourishment during COVID-19. In all, a total of 20 sites are open for grab and go meals. Since this list is subject to change, older adults should call each site first to be added to the list for meals or to discuss other meal arrangements. For a list of centers offering grab and go meals, hours of operation and contact information for the Northeast:

Northeast Philadelphia Northeast Older Adult Center 8101 Bustleton Ave., 19152

215-685-0576 Mondays and Wednesdays

Peter Bressi NE Senior Center 4744-46 Frankford Ave., 19124

215-831-2926

Kleinlife Northeast & Kleinlife Russian Satellite 10100 Jamison Ave., 19116

215-698-7300

Recognizing that many older adults may have difficulty leaving their homes, family members may pick up meals, with

prior arrangement at each site. Centers will also work with PCA to arrange for meals to be home delivered, if needed.

In addition, the City of Philadelphia has partnered with Share

Food Program and Philabundance to offer free food sites throughout Philadelphia, where residents can pick up free food for their households. For a list of those sites go to:

Sanctuary Memorials

Sanctuary candle: A sanctuary candle burns in both our upper and lower church to remind us of the sacramental presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. If you wish to have the sanctuary candles in the upper or lower church burn for a full week in memory of a loved one, please contact the rectory.

The suggested offering is $10. Bread and Wine: In the early Church it was customary for the People of God to provide the bread and wine to be used at the Celebration of the Eucharist. If you wish to participate in the ancient tradition of providing the bread and wine for the Celebration of the Eucharist in either the upper church or lower church as a memorial for your Family or your deceased loved ones, please call the rectory. Suggested offering: $10. Sanctuary Memorial Fund: This fund is an ideal way to memorialize deceased loved ones and friends. At the time of a funeral, funds can be directed to the Parish Sanctuary Fund. An acknowledgement of the gift is sent to the Family of the deceased. The fund is used for the upkeep of Saint Timothy Sanctuaries. Mass is offered for Memorial Fund Benefactors privately.
