The Island of Malta is an archipelago in the central Mediterranean Sea, some 93 km south of Sicily. Only thethree largest islands Malta Island (Malta), Gozo (Għawdex),and Comino (Kemmuna) are inhabited. There are various places of interest that you can visit in Malta, and the good thing is that all places are easilyreached by public transport via Valletta.
There are also plenty of dierent events around the island, especially during the summer months. One of the mostspectacular ones is the Malta Fireworks Festival in Valettain the end of April every year. For three days dierentcountries and rework suppliers compete in making thebest rework-show.
Don't be sad if you miss the Firework Festival. Almost every weekend, the dierent villages hosts religiousFestas. During a whole week, they celebrate their saintwith church bells, processions, confetti and in the weekendthey end the folk festival with an outstandingrework-show.
Valletta - The capital of Malta
Valletta, the capital of Malta, was built by the Knights of StJohn in the 16th-century. It has been listed as a UNESCOworld heritage site due to the various monumentalbuildings. Megalithic Temples
The remains of numerous temples erected in the Fourth and Third Millennium B.C. are unique in the world. Stoneidols, animal representations carved in relief, stone tablets,altars and screens decorated with spirals and otherpatterns enhance the attraction of these magnicentsanctuaries. Hastings Garden

Manoel Theatre
This beautiful theater, a contribution to Malta's cultural scene, from 1732 is well worth a visit. Fort Rinella
This fort was built by the British to support Malta from Italian navy. To make it extra safe, a 100 ton gun, designedto be the worlds biggest, was placed at its entry.Fortunately it never had to be used but it is still there forvisitors to watch. Limestone Heritage
It is said that the name Malta comes from the Italian word Melita that means honey. Blue Lagoon

For all your shopping needs the capital city Valletta is the ideal destination. Here you can nd a large variety ofshops and every day there is a market which opensaround 08.00 in the morning. You may nd a bargain, buteven if you don’t, the market is an entertainment in itself!
Sliema is another good destination to go shopping and here, at the Plaza Shopping Centre, you’ll nd the largestshopping centre in Malta. Shops are open from 09.00 till13.00 in the afternoon, and then open again at 16.00 till19.00.
If you are looking for something particularly Maltese, the Ta’ Qali Crafts Village is the place to go. Amongst othersouvenirs, Malta has several glass producers. Craftsmenand women can be seen busy at work throughout themany ’huts’ at the Ta’ Qali. At Ta’ Qali one can also ndlace, pottery, silver ligree jewelry, ironwork, woodwork andleatherwork. Prices are reasonable, but look out forbargain ’seconds’ in the glassware - some products aregreatly reduced in price for very minor blemishes. Some ofthese products can also be found in areas popular withtourists such as Bugibba, Sliema and Valletta.
