Ben did not like to wake up at dawn, but he felt a sharp claw in his back. It made him fall on the floor!

With Ben gone, Scat got to sprawl on the bed. But first she had to stretch and yawn and lick her paws.

“Not fair,” Ben said. “I sprawl on the floor, while you sprawl on the bed?”

Ben felt hurt from the fall. He did not want to stand up.

“I will crawl down the steps,” he said to himself.

Dad saw Ben and Scat, and he could not stop himself. “Haw, haw!” said Dad. “You let the cat take your bed. I have a plan for a boy who is up at dawn.”

“You can cut the back lawn. It will be hot, so cut it soon and you will be glad later.”

Ben did not want to cut the lawn, but what Dad said next made him think.

“Shawn has to help his dad with farm chores at dawn, and so he called to see if you can swim with him at noon. If you cut the lawn soon, you can go and have fun with Shawn.”

“Okay,” Ben said with a yawn. “I will cut the lawn, and I will swim with Shawn. But first I will cut that bad cat’s claws so she can’t wake me up at dawn!”
