ARE YOU A THERMOMETER OR A THERMOSTAT??
Do you know the difference between a thermostat and a thermometer?
A thermometer merely tells what the temperature is in a particular area.
If your thermometer reads seventy degrees and you place that thermometer in a room that is currently eighty degrees, the thermometer will change to register whatever the room temperature is. It won’t be long before the thermometer reads eighty degrees. It always adjusts to its environment.
The thermostat, however, adjusts the room temperature. If the thermo-stat is set at seventy degrees and the room is eighty degrees, the temperature of the room changes to conform to whatever the thermostat is reading. The room will become seventy degrees.
It strikes me that we all live our lives as either a thermostat or a ther-mometer. We can either blend in with the crowd, or we can change the crowd. We are either influencing others, or they are influencing us.
The Apostle Paul puts it this way, “Do not conform to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, that you may prove what the will of God is…His good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2)
God Bless!

Wisdom is finding out what you should do and doing it. Some adults call it ‘discernment’. Whatever we call it, it's not always easy. Making decisions in life can be hard. Should I do the right thing? Should I choose the easy way out? In the Bible, it says that Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man. Don't you want to grow up and say I can trust GOD no matter what! I know I do. Come join us this month as we explore God' s stories!! Memorize: Proverbs 8:10-11 "Choose my teaching instead of silver. Choose knowledge rather than fine gold. Wisdom is worth more than rubies. Nothing you want can compare with her. Week 1- 1 Kings 3:4-15 Solomon If you want to be wise, ask a God for wisdom. Week 2- 1Kings 12:1-15 Solomon's sons If you want to be wise, hang out with wise people. Week 3- Proverbs 12:18 Solomon's words If you want to be wise, think before you speak. Week 4- Proverbs 22:3 Wise people If you want to be wise, look before you leap. Week 5- Luke 2:52 God's wisdom If you want to be wise, find out what Jesus said. Repeat after me...I can trust GOD no matter what. Now shout it to everyone. I CAN TRUST GOD NO MATTER WHAT!!! Believe in what you say. GOD is that important!!! Praising God Always, Kimberly Bowers FUMC Children Ministry Director

Bryson Wintjen is our
Youth of the Month for
August. Bryson will be a
Sophomore at Brazoswood
High School this year. He
plays football and did
weightlifting last year.
Bryson plays the ukulele
and is also learning to play
the guitar. He has been a
member of First UMC for
about 10 years and is very
active in FirstYouth.
I chose Bryson because he is
a great role model in the
youth group. He makes
EVERYONE feel welcome at
our events. Bryson also
attended UM Army for the
first time this summer. He
worked really hard and was
recognized as a leader among
the students. He was one of
the few students that was
asked to deliver the morning
devotional during the week.
Bryson was also inspired
by the music at UM Army
and has helped to startup
the FirstYouth band again.
Thank you, Bryson, for all
you do for FirstYouth and
for being
a great
young
Christian
leader.
Thank You, Wes
