NEWS FROM THE ACTING
PRINCIPAL
Ben Milsom
An unexpected start to the week on
Monday morning when we had a power
line down across the road. The school
would like to send a big thank you to Evita
Jones, Penni Williams and Maggie (our
Crossing Supervisor) who took control of
proceedings and did an outstanding job
directing traffic at the busiest time of
day. A big thanks to the team at Powercor
and Mildura Police for supporting our
community and the last thanks needs to go
to all our parents. Each of you did a
fantastic job responding to the change in
traffic direction and following what was
expected. The respect and cooperation
shown by parents made the safety
outcome a lot less stressful.
School Attendance
Attendance at school is crucial for ongoing
growth and development of your child,
both socially and developmentally.
School helps:
Maximise life opportunities for students by
building education and support networks
Develop important skills, knowledge and
values that set them further learning and
participation in the community
Students make the most of life
opportunities ‘A child missing one day a fortnight will miss
four weeks in a year, and more than a year
of school by year 10. It is important that
children develop regular attendance habits
at an early age.’
XUNO School Management App
We are using Xuno for all of our
school management (absences,
report distribution, permission
notes). The app has been updated, so you
may need to install the new app. If you
haven’t already installed the app, we
encourage you to do so. The school code
for the app is 2vyt1r. If you have any
troubles accessing the app, please contact
the office Mid-Year Reports
This year’s Mid-Year Report will be available
through the Xuno app and will be available
as of Thursday June 27th. Like we did with
Parent Teacher Interviews, we encourage
all parents to join the Xuno Portal so you
can have access to a range of
options. Those parents/carers having any
trouble with the Xuno portal, please let the
office staff or Ben Milsom know. Learning Conferences
Learning Conferences will take place on
Wednesday July 31st. Once again we will
be asking parents to book their conference
through the Xuno app. Conference times
will open during the first week back at
school. There will be no school on this day
but students are required to be involved in
their 15 minute learning conference. House Shirts
We now have House Shirts available for sale
at our uniform shop – Laser Signs and Print.
Please see below:
PRE-ORDER NOW to receive after 9th August.
Orders can be placed until Sunday 30th
June.
Unfortunately the shirts won’t be ready for
our upcoming House Sports due to the short
time frame but we will provide plenty of
opportunity in Term 3 and Term 4 for
students to wear their shirts should they
purchase. We endeavour to have a
number of House Days in the future and not
Irymple South Primary School Newsletter - Issue 19, Week 9, Term 2, 2019
just limit the wearing of our new shirts to the
Cross Country and House Sports Day. Working with Children Check
All people who volunteer at school
(sporting events, concert etc) need a
Working with Children Check. Applications
are available online. Volunteer checks are
free. When you receive your WWC card
please bring it to the office if you are
volunteering at school.

There will be no RI for the next two
Mondays (24th June and 15th July). RI will
recommence on Monday 22nd July. Australian Maths Competition
This year’s Australian Maths Competition
will take place on Thursday August 1st. We
have participated in this optional
competition for many years now.
The competition is open to any students in
Grades 3-6 who would like to take the
opportunity to challenge themselves in
maths.
Entry for the Australian Maths Competition
closes in Term 3 on Monday the 22nd of
July. The cost is $6.50 for students to be
involved. Earn and Learn
The Woolworths ‘Earn
and Learn’ promotion is
on again. For every $10
spent at Woolworths
you can collect 1 sticker. Stickers can be
brought to school or placed in the ISPS box
at the Mildura Central store and the
Langtree Avenue store. This promotion
closes next week, so collect as many
stickers as you can! Enrolments 2020
Thank you to all families that have already
enrolled or who have taken an enrolment
package. Can current families with siblings
please ensure you enrol for 2020 as soon as
possible. Enrolment Zones
The following information was updated
and released last week by DET. All children
are entitled to be enrolled at their
designated neighbourhood school.
Designated neighbourhood schools are
generally the public school within closest
proximity to the student’s permanent
residential address. You can request
enrolment at a school that is not your
designated neighbourhood school. We do
have the capacity to accept students from
outside our zone and are looking at a Prep
enrolment number of 52 students. The
school can only accept your enrolment if
there is sufficient capacity at the school.
The zones are defined as your nearest
school by the shortest practical transport
route. You can check out which school
zone you are in by visiting the following
website www.findmyschool.vic.gov.au Camps Sports & Excursions Fund (CSEF)
2019
The Victorian Government will be providing
a CSEF payment to all eligible families to
assist with the costs of school trips, camps
and sporting activities. Please contact the
office to get an application form. The
School will need to sight and copy the
concession card to ensure that the
parent’s name and Centrelink Reference
Number (CRN) matches the Centrelink
database. Applications close on June 28th
(end of Term 2). Absences
If your child is absent it is a department
requirement that a parent or guardian
informs the school of any student absence.
This can be done via email to the
classroom teacher, message on SeeSaw,
by using Xuno or a phone call. If your child
will be absent for an extended period
please inform the class teacher or school
before they leave. Late Arrivals & Early Departures
All parents / guardians must come via the
office if they are dropping their child off
after 9:00am, or if they are picking their
child up before 3.15pm. There is an iPad to
sign students both in and out of school. Parking
Please remember to use the school
crossing on 15th Street. Our crossing
supervisor is there to ensure that everyone
crosses the road safely. Please make sure

need to be able to do so safely. The safety of all road users is our highest priority. School Council
The next meeting of the School Council is on Wednesday 7th August at 6:00pm in the
Staffroom. Worm Farms
We are looking at rehousing our worm farms. These are available for $5. Eisteddfod
Congratulations to the 28 Grade 6 students who competed in the Primary School Dance
Section of the Mildura Eisteddfod and were placed 2nd! The students performed a
dance to ‘We Go Together’ from Grease. This is a great reward for all the hard work and
practise that the students have done during their lunchtime over the past term. Thanks
to Mrs Libby Kennedy for choreographing and teaching the routine to the students.
Thanks to Libby and Mrs Nadine McWilliams for accompanying the students to the Arts
Centre on Wednesday.
We are also aware that a
number of our students have
and will be performing at the
Eisteddfod. Congratulations to
anyone who has competed
and good luck to those about
to perform.

VOCABULARY
In Grade 4 this term, we have been exploring vocabulary found in our reading and
everyday life conversations. In order to help us understand the new vocabulary we
complete activities so we gain a better understanding of the word. We find the
definition of the vocab word, use the vocab word in a sentence, find synonyms for
the vocab word and also associate the word to a picture to help us remember the
word. We also learn 2 of our words for our weekly class Vocab Wizard game.

Athletic Sports
Our Athletics Sports are fast approaching. This year we are once again running our
school athletics sports day on the athletics track at the Aerodrome ovals. The athletics
day will be held on Tuesday 23rd July. Students will need to wear appropriate sports
clothing and HOUSE colours for the day.
Parents will need to organise to drop their children off to the athletics track at the
Aerodrome ovals and sign them in with their classroom teachers by 8.50am.
There will be no staff on site at school on this day. NO busses will be available to
transport students from the school. Students can then be collected and signed out at
3.15pm from the Aerodrome ovals.
The day will start with the opening welcome and reading of the oaths at 9.00am. The
students will then break into their year level groups and commence their events by
9.15am. Year level and monster relays will round up the day’s events starting at 2.15pm
followed by the closing assembly.
A full timetable for the day will be in the Term 3 Week 1 newsletter.
We would love to see as many parents as possible supporting their children on the day.
PE and Sport practice All students have been practising the various athletics events during P.E. classes and
classroom sport over the past three weeks. It would helpful if the children could wear
suitable clothing and footwear every day.
Lunch orders for Athletics Sports Day The Sunraysia Baseball Association have kindly offered to open the canteen at the Aero
Ovals for our Sports Day. Food and drinks will be available to purchase throughout the
day for parents and friends. All students wishing to have a lunch order will need to order
their lunch before Wednesday July 17th.
All lunch orders need to be written on a paper bag. Please write ‘SPORTS DAY LUNCH’
on the bag.
Name and room number must be written on the lunch bags.
Lunch orders are due back by Wednesday 17th July (first week back)
No late orders will be accepted.
Please include correct money – No change will be given.
The following foods will be available to students for lunch orders.
Cowards Pies & Pasties $4.00

MUSIC with Mrs Mac
The Preps, Grade 1s and 2s have learnt to play lots of songs on the
keyboards and xylophones, and chose their favourite one for an
individual performance. They have also collaborated to perform as a
class band where they voted on a song, chose which instruments to
use and actions to accompany their performance.
The Grade 3s and 4s also practised a variety of songs on the keyboards
and xylophones for an individual performance. They have looked at
Music through the Decades….the features, genres, instruments,
clothing and famous artists and how they have changed.
The Grade 5s and 6s also learnt some songs on the keyboards and
xylophones for an individual performance. They are currently
researching an Australian musician/singer/band to present in a format
of their choice.
Have a look on Seesaw for their individual and Class Band
performances!

GIRLS SOCCER
On Monday 12 grade 5 and 6 girls travelled to the Aerodrome ovals to
compete in the Sunraysia division finals. We played 3 games in total,
unfortunately losing our first two games to Mildura Primary 2 – 1 their
way and St Pauls 4 – 0 their way. Our third game was a playoff for third
and fourth against Sacred Heart and this ended in a 1 all draw. This
means we finished equal third for the day and will not be progressing
to the next round.
Our goal scorers for the day were Kiara and Aleisha with one goal each. Bianca, Lottie and
Emma Norris held up our backline well and special mention must go to Mr Allen who took over
the team mid-season and produced encouraging results. Thank you.
BOYS NETBALL
On Monday Miss Hepworth took our boys netball team to Sarah oval to
compete in the Sunraysia Division finals. We knew we would have tough
competition, but we played the best we have played since coming
together. We played Sacred Heart and had a very comfortable win. We also
played Mildura South, losing only by a couple of goals to them.
Unfortunately, we were just outsized. Our most improved players for the day
BOYS HOCKEY
On Thursday we travelled to the Mildura Hockey Centre to play in
the Sunraysia Division finals. We played on a much bigger pitch this
week, but we rose to the occasion. We won two out of our three
games for the day, finishing in second place. We all had a great
day and our strongest players for the day were Cooper Topp and
Harvey Pardon.
GIRLS HOCKEY
The girls hockey team made it to the second
round at the Aerodrome Ovals, which we
played yesterday. Our first game we drew with
one point each. Our second game we won 2-0.
Our last game was the decider as to whether
we made it to the next round or not. Fortunately
we won 1-0 so we are now progressing to the
next round in Swan Hill. Our goal scorers were
Rose, Charlotte and Maia. The most improved player for the day was Natalie. Overall it was a
fun experience and an amazing effort by the team.
BOYS FOOTBALL
Yesterday the boy’s football team played at the Aero Ovals. We played 3 games for the day,
playing Mildura South, Sacred Heart and Merbein. Unfortunately we lost our first two games, but
both were very tight contests. We had a huge win in our 3rd game, which was a nice way to
finish. We played really well as a team with everyone contributing along the way. Our best
players for the day were: Ned, Tom, Sam and Harper. Most improved for the day goes to Charlie.
