"President's Message"

It's been a busy spring aroundthe museum and the Strawberry &Dessert Festival plans were a part of that. All the planning and the excel-lent weather on June 20th paid off with over 400 of our neighbors en-joying our most successful straw-

berry festival ever.Everyone seemed to enjoy thefood, desserts, and entertainment. A program likeour festival could not have been accomplished with-out the help of nearly 50 dedicated volunteers, thevendors, and the businesses that donated door prizesand raffle prizes. A special thanks goes to the Signery sign shop, Greece-Ridge Firestone, the Town ofGreece and our sponsor, Northwest Bank, for theirvery generous support. Although the strawberry festi-val is a great fund raiser for us, we still need your con-tinued support. Please check your renewal date and

renew your membership. Tell your friends about us,that we are the only organization in Greece that col-lects and preserves the Town's history.

A special thank you goes to Dave Pandina of Wood Works for repairing our sign in the front yard.Ten years of weather had rotted some of the woodholding the light fixture and a new support systemneeded to be constructed. Thanks also to GarfieldKyte of Diamond Pest Elimination for eliminating abird infestation problem.

Now that the festival is over, we are planning ourfall Tuesday programs at the Town Hall. On Septem-ber 13th, Dave Ruch from Buffalo will entertain uswith stories about "Traditional & Historical Songs of  New York State" and will include some songs from theWar of 1812. Then, on October 11th, Dr. Milton Ser-nett, Professor Emeritus, Syracuse University will pre-sent a program titled "Muscles to Motors on the Farm: Henry Ford and the Great American Tractor Wars" . Both these program are made possiblethrough the support of the New York Council for theHumanities, a state affiliate of the National Endow-ment for the Humanities.

We are pleased to announce that CanandaiguaNational Bank & Trust will be our corporate sponsorfor our entire 2011-2012 Tuesday night lecture series.

We hope to see all of you some Sunday at yourmuseum or at our monthly Tuesday programs at theTown Hall.

Thank you for your support.

“Museum Shop”

Summer is here, and with this beautiful weather I can’t wait to lounge

in the sun reading a good book. We have so many great books. We

have books about Lake Ontario, the Manitou Trolley, lighthouses,

Greece, Parma, Gates, Irondequoit and Downtown Rochester. We have

many new children’s books, our latest by Sally Valentine, ―Lost at Sea-

breeze‖. And of course, we have our own ―Eight Miles Along the Shore‖.

Stop in and pick up a good summer read.

All sales support the Greece Historical Society & Museum.

“Tours and Education Committee”

What a busy Spring season we had with school tours and still 4 more to go in June!! On May 17thand May 20th we had over 60 students each day. We divided the groups by starting with one in the liviroom, one at the one room school house and one at the kitchen and then rotated them so that they allsaw almost the entire museum. I positioned myself in the living room first talking about the house andthen showing them a video of how the house was moved to its present location. They were fascinated, were the teachers and other adults who were there to help supervise. Renee Sanger, Faye Cole, CarolynBrewer and Linda Evans were on hand to help and I must say it went very well considering the numberstudents at one time.

We welcome 2 new volunteers - Annette Curatalo who is currently shadowing me on school tours awill soon be ready to "go solo". Our next volunteer is Ryan Hooper who is just 13 years old and hasexpressed an interest in helping us with various tasks. He will be working with Linda Evans at theStrawberry Festival at craft tables. He has said that he is interested in helping build a long house for ourNative American Display which we thought would make a good summer project for him. We are excitedto have both of them on board.

A big thanks to Lucy Kraemer and Jack Heller for their expertise with the June school tours.
