This past spring several of ourmembers have met and are contin-uing to meet for the purpose offormulating ideas for programs, fundraising and community out-
reach. The goal is to expand thehorizons of the Society and theMuseum and reach a larger audience. We are aim-ing for young families and hope to build our mem-bership, while developing opportunities to increasevolunteers, leaders and board members. In the fu-ture we will investigate collaborations with theGreece Library and other organizations such as TwoDoors Community Resource Center, scout groupsand schools. We will research publishing books andbooklets, and creating new exhibits. If you would
be willing to contribute your time or talent or knowsomeone who might become a good docent, re-searcher, collection care manager, gift shop volun-teer, or board member, please call 225-7221 or e-mail [email protected].
Recently we have been working with On-Cell, a lo-cal mobile phone messaging company and wesoon plan to begin recording messages about our
exhibits. These messages will not replace our greatdocents, but will have the possibility of enhancingthe experience of our visitors with detailed infor-mation about certain exhibits. We will have moreinformation about this exciting program in the nearfuture.

On Tuesday, May 8th, nearly 150 people attended our pro-
gram featuring Rochesters preeminent modern architect, Mr.
James Johnson. Using construction footage and images, Mr.
Johnson discussed many of his local projects and the methods
used to create them, including the Liberty Pole, Temple Sinai, the
Mushroom House, St. John the Evangelist Church, and others.
The program was held inside St. Johns Church.
Unfortunately the sound system made it difficult to hear. How-ever, with the financial help of Mike Sofia, the Doan Dealerships,St. Johns Women's Guild, and other donations, we were able tohave the program professionally video recorded. This resulted in amuch better sound quality on the recording. In the near futurewe will be expanding the video to add an introduction and addi-tional footage, including more about St. Johns Church.
Check the Corinthian, our monthly e-mail or Facebook forinformation on the release of our new video.

Historian's Office.
Our newest, long term exhibit has just opened and features Greece citizens who served in
"The War of the Rebellion" (1861 to1865). Highlighted are several of the units where the largest
group of Greece volunteers enlisted. Rare photos and other memorabilia are on loan from pri-
vate sources and the Greece Historian's Office. Information and photos of some of the local ser-
vice men are on view along with gravesites in several cemeteries.
A roster of all the Greece citizens who served during the war is listed with other information
about their service. This listing is available in a binder with veteran and widow pension data.
The Grand Army of the Republic was an important organization of war veterans and influ-
enced the election of five Republican presidents who served in the Civil War from 1866 to 1900.
Some of that story is also in the binder for the visitor's perusal.
Should you be a descendent of someone from Greece who
served in this war, please contact the Historian's Office; we
would like to hear from you.
Everyone, be sure to visit this important and interesting
exhibit.
We are in need of Docents for our Museum 1 or 2 Sunday afternoons amonth. Call Kathie Firkins, 621-2869.
The Girl Scouts of America are celebrating their 100th anniversary.Juliette Low was the founder who established the Girl Scout troops toencourage girls to participate as valued citizens. She set high ideals for themembers.
The Girl Scouts of Western New York have joined us to exhibit some ofthe earlier scout and leader uniforms, plus memorabilia. Added to the dis-play are items from The Greece Historical Society collection.
All Girl Scouts, young and former members, are invited to come and help
us celebrate this important anniversary. Stop in and see us soon.

1. Lake & Bay Belt All Resort Ticket2. Japanese Garden Ont Beach Pk.3. Sea Breeze Pier, Lake Ontario4. Glen Haven & Irondequoit Bay5. Sea Breeze Park6. Pt. Pleasant Gasoline Launch
That is just whatfamilies and couples might do in the summer of 1912. Sunday was theideal time for an outing as the aver-age work week was 5 and one half days. The Rochester area was lucky to haveLake Ontario and Irondequoit Bay close athandwhere they might travel for the cool breezes. Remember, it was before the days of inexpensive room fans or air condi-tioning.Between 1900 and 1924, a Mr. J.D. Scott (a very resourceful entrepreneur) came up with a scheme he called "ThePink Ticket Trip". He offered tickets from a small tent he would put up at the downtown four corners (Main and State). For aspecial 50 cent ticket (thats $11.15 today) you boarded the Lake Avenue Trolley to Charlotte and Ontario Beach Park to seethe sites there and perhaps havea ride on the circle swing or the "The Breezer" (Roller Coaster). You might have a phototaken at the outdoor tintype photographer with your "sweetie", as itwas an inexpensive and nice souvenir.
Then it's off to board the J.D.Scott for a short lake trip to the dock at Sea Breeze. At the end of the dock is a small restau
rant called "The Hawaiian Gardens".A dance floor with automatic music provided bya Wurlitzer Orchestra Piano enter-tained the early afternoon crowd, Later on, a five piece live orchestra was on hand to keep the dancers feet tapping to livelytwo steps, waltzes and the Turkey-Trot!Then over the railroad tracks of the "Hojack Line" to Sea Breeze Park with a smallcoaster and a carousel built and run by the Long family of Philadelphia. The cotton candy is quite good as well as the freshroasted peanuts.
Down a path whichleads to Irondequoit Bay theres a Naphtha or Gasoline Launch, waiting totake passengers down tothe end of the Bay.Stops could be made at any of the numerous hotels along the west bank, such as Pt. Pleasant, Birds anWorms, the Newport House etc.The final stop on the Bay was Glen Haven Park with its large hotel, beautiful grounds and aamusement park on the south end. If lunch had not been had earlier, but brought along (which was often the case), this wasthe place to spend some time.A large stage with vaudeville acts always attracted large crowds.
Boarding a Sodus Bay & Rochester Trolley for a trip back to the station on East Main Street, the carwent through a number of Irondequoit'swooded glens and over several streams. Gathering umbrellas, coats, ties, large ladies hats and lunch
basketsfor the last time, you rode the
West Main trolley back to Main and State Street and
to transfer points at
Clinton
or S
Paul Street. The trip could be made in reverse and the length of time at each stopover was only governed by the ticket hold-er.The only caution being, the final boats on the bay and lake stopped running around dusk.
Wouldnt it be fun to takea trip back in time to enjoy the one day excursion??? Remember, all electronic devices must b
left at J.D. Scotts tent fore boarding the trolley........
