BUDGET & FINANCE
John Brown 717-426-2238 [email protected]
Our accounting firm, RKL, has completed their
review of our 2011 financial records and submitted the
appropriate tax forms to the IRS and the state.
The Annual Fund Drive has brought in approximately
$8,400 by mid-August. Both Jim and I have been on vacation
for the past two weeks so the tally is not current.
The goal for the car 1189 Fund is $15,000. At
mid-August approximately $14,000 has been raised. If just one
more person joins the Car 1189 club by contributing $1,189 we
can move forward with getting the car moved from Strasburg
to Hamburg.
Again, thank you for your continued support of the
Society.
Mike Stehman was recognized for his outstanding work on the
Capital Campaign.
TREASURER’S REPORT Jim Adams 610-777-3764 [email protected]
A motion to refer the Treasurer’s Report to the
Finance Committee for audit and vote was made by Greg
Goodridge, seconded by Larry Mundell. The motion Passed.

TRACK & GROUNDS Duane Engle 610-929-5661 [email protected]
We continued with grass cutting, weed spraying and
general grounds clean up this past month. The following
helped this month: Don Crabtree, John Stoudt and Duane
Engle. We are still in need of help to address removing the
rebar and other metal from the areas that were graded after the
demolition work (no one has come forward to help with this).
We have received the go ahead to remove track in the East
Petersburg area. Paul Payne will be heading this up as the
work needs to be done during the regular work week. I am
also preparing to do more track construction at the museum.
Anyone that can help with any of this work, please contact
me.

ACQUISITIONS Steve Schwartz 610-434-1289 [email protected] No report. SAFETY Looking for a chairman. ARCHIVES / PUBLICATIONS / CALENDAR Rick Bates 610-647-9359 [email protected]
Archives
We received an exceptional donation in August from
Richard Mansley consisting of a large collection of photos of
Reading Railroad steam locomotives, mostly roster-type shots
in smaller-size, black & white formats. Not every locomotive
the Reading ever had is included, but this will still be useful in
helping to fulfill research needs for photos of specific engines
by number. Also thanks to the following for their donations
to the Archives: Some Reading RR photos from Will Coxey;
a set of 1880s-era surveyor field notebooks for the W&N
Railroad from Bill Stafford and Rick Bates; some quarter-mile
sheets from Neil Shankweiler; and a pair of framed photos
and some other paper items from the family of Robert J.
Dalton, this donation facilitated by Bill Cauff. We handled
eleven inquiries this month for historical information about
the Reading. We completed sorting the remaining unsorted,
rolled track drawings, making at least this portion of the
collection a bit easier to use for research.
Publications
Work continues on the next Bee Line.
Calendar
The Year 2013 Reading Railroad calendar has been
completed and it features all pictures by noted photographer
Dave Augsburger. Please contact the Sales Committee to
purchase calendars because the Calendar Committee does not
have the calendar inventory.
PUBLIC RELATIONS
Looking for a chairman. MAILING
Ken Riegel 610-777-4555
This month the Crusader was mailed a week late due
to a power outage at the printer. MODULAR Jonathan Barket 570-366-1533 [email protected]
We continue working on several modules including a
few new scenes waiting to be reviled. We are also adding to
the signal system. We were able to get the East Penn signal
bridge mounted and working along with the signals at locust
summit. Detection circuits will be added between Cressona
and East Penn to allow better tracking of train movements.
We are working on a revised Plexiglas holder which will be
able to hold both more Plexiglas as well as other layout equip-
ment. New wheels are also being added. We changed out the
wheels on the 8' rack replacing them with roller bearing
wheels making the entire rack much easier to move. We are
experimenting different ways to try and clean our Plexiglas.
They are scratched pretty bad and makes looking through
them almost impossible. As you can see we are taking this
time off and trying to catch up on some outstanding projects.
Our next show will be at the Harrisburg farm show complex
for the PA Christmas and Craft show. Set up will be on Nov
26th and the show will be Nov 28 - Dec 2. If you would like
to assist or join in with the work sessions, please let me know. MODELING -John Greene 215-721-3006 [email protected]
Athearn and Mike’s Train House will be producing
the Norfolk Southern Reading SD70ACe Heritage Unit in HO
scale. MTH is also offering an O scale version. The GHB/
Con-Cor HO scale Crusader train set is expected to be ready
to ship by mid October. You can purchase the sets with our
without the steam engine. The RCT&HS will have Crusader
sets available for purchase. A CD containing our Bee Line
The Crusader RCT&HS 4

Sakal. Jim Adams stated that he will make it a point to
visit Mike Sakal in person.
There was a question about getting Bee Lines produced.
It was reported that one will be out shortly.
NEW BUSINESS

below the US flag at the museum.
Mike Stahman reported that Don Crabtree was able to
get a fork lift donated.
Karen Confer made a suggestion to have a small book
produced on the history of the Reading Railroad to sell
at shows. This should be a book of reasonable size and
cost to interest the general public.
Greg Goodridge announced that the RCT&HS volunteer
recognition event will be held on September 30th.
RCT&HS members can ride the 3:00 or 4:00 WK&S
train and enjoy a picnic style diner back at the RRHM.
If nonmembers ride that train the board asks that a $3
donation be made for each nonmember rider. Please
contact Greg Goodridge at 215-699-3353 or
[email protected] if you plan to attend. You can also
use the flyer enclosed in the Crusader.

Mike Sakal reported that he has been
experiencing virus problems with his computer.
Because of this, the members web site he
maintains has been experiencing trouble and the
July eCrusader did not go out on time. Mike has
assured us that he now has a new computer and
things should return to normal. By now the July
eCrusader should have been sent. We apologize
