The Presidents Message

The 44th

Annual Louisiana Membership Meeting and Tour is now History. The Contraband Chapter

provided those in attendance with a touch of LOUISIANA Musical history. Friday the tour stopped at

the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home. Upon arrival several veterans and staff were gathered to

check out the Old Cars and Trucks. One of the residents played a few gospel songs on his harmonica

while the veterans and staff were completing ballots for their favorite vehicle. The next stops were in

downtown Jennings. What a sight. Seeing all the antique cars parked around town. The Saturday tour

started out with everyone singing the National Anthem as Old Glory passed by in a 1957 Chevy

Convertible. Another great sight!! The tour of the Cotton Thread Mill was very interesting. A lot of

good food was enjoyed both Friday & Saturday. Great Tour! FANTASTIC entertainment!

The Evangeline Rally & Tour was held on Memorial Day Week End. The tour to the New Iberia

museum was real interesting. WOW! WHAT A RALLY! Saturday we traveled nearly 100 miles. A day

of listening to my wife tell me where to go and how fast to drive was a real treat. However we did well.

place in the Post War class. I think we would have finished first if Marty hadn‟t made me stop and

back up to check out all the signs on a telephone pole. I thought she was going to climb up the darn

thing. We ate some good food at Landry‟s Seafood and laughed at and with a Cajun Comedian.

We had a great time at both tours. The best part was seeing old friends and meeting some new ones.

Two young people were in attendance. One of them Lindsey Pansano, raked in the raffle prizes at both

tours. The next time you see Lindsey ask her to rub your tickets for LUCK.

Until we meet again, keep the gas tank full, air in the tires and a map in the glove box.

Minutes for the 44th

Annual Membership Meeting May 7th

2011 Jennings, La.

Region President, Joe Wright called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM

Joe welcomed everyone and commented that “So far I hope we have shaken things up

a little”. Also warning that before the night is over you never know who might show up.

Along that line Joe introduced our guests Marty & Dale Roth. He noted that they really

didn‟t need an introduction because their faces are not new to most of us. However Marty

has moved up a rung on the AACA ladder. Joe informed us that Myron Smith is the Vice-

President of Regions Development & Support for the Central Division. Marty is now the

Chairman of the Central Division under Myron. Marty asked to speak to us for about five

minutes. Joe stated that if I give him 5 mins. He‟ll take 10 so he gave Marty three

minutes.

Marty gave us a preview of what his job entails. Mostly he is available to help us in the

Region with any problems or concerns that we may have. He is the point person to move

concerns up the chain of command. Marty can be contacted at 504-258-3809. Joe thanked

Marty for making us aware of his new position.

In lieu of the Secretary‟s Report, Joe said he would entertain a motion to accept the

minutes as printed in the Duster. A motion was made, seconded and passed.

No Old Business was brought up.

New Business A question was made as to which chapter hosts the 2012 Louisiana Tour.

It was noted that Baton Rouge would be next. No objection was raised.

Reports from each Chapter were given:

BATON ROUGE - Wallace McKenzie reported that Vivian Crawford would chair the

Sept. Tour again this year. They will also be ready to host the Louisiana Tour next May.

CENLA- Joe Mitchell They had a good tour & is looking for a chairperson for next year.

CONTRABAND - Jim Stratton Chapter is staying busy with Cobweb tours & other

functions.

EVANGELINE - Brenda & Boo Derouen. Rally and tour are all set up.

LAGNIAPPE- Fred Duplechin reported that Gary Labat didn‟t have anything to report

concerning Legal. Fred explained that the chapter will host a one day event in New Roads

on Nov. 5th

. As Webmaster he asked that Chapters send him photo‟s with captions so he

can post on the Region web site.

ST. BERNARD -Johnny Waguespack reported that they will have the Annual car show

on Sat. Oct. 15th.

Joe informed the membership that the executive board discussed and passed a motion to

change the name Historian to Archivist. The membership voted to accept the name

change. Joe asked everyone to provide an e-mail address to receive the Duster via e-mail.

Having no other business Joe Wright adjourned the 44th

Annual Louisiana general

membership meeting at 7:45.

and other emergencies are easier to handle with help.

TOUR TIP!!! Bring a young person to a tour. The next generation will be in charge of

touring our old cars. Get them interested at a young age.

REMEMBER!!! TOURS ARE MORE FUN WHEN YOU COME.

Later this year we would like to do a remembrance of some kind for our members who

have passed away in 2011. Gather up names and any ideas you may have so we can

collect them in a couple months. We also want to remember our local Men & Women in

the military who gave their lives serving this country. Have some ideas ready.

left this year. Attend as many as you can! Support your Region!

The Baton Rouge Tour application is enclosed. Get ready for a good time in the big city.

Vivian Crawford will be the tour chairman again this year. She did a great job last year

and we have great expectations for this year.

CONGRALULATIONS to the DUSTER! We received the 2010 Award of Distinction for Regional publications.

THANKS for the fine work by Bobbie Thibodeaux and Brenda Derouen, our

past President and past Editor. It takes a lot of hard work to compile and sift

through the information that ends up in the DUSTER. AGAIN a big Thank

You to Bobbie & Brenda.

Remember to submit photos of your events to Fred our webmaster. Also E-

mail your stories and other bits of information to the region editor at

[email protected] so that we can get them published. Send them to

us before the end of Jan, March, May, June, Aug., Oct. and Nov. Your entry

doesn‟t have to be a just a short story. Make us laugh, cry, reflect or

learn something new. Like the following story from Perry & Cathy Richardson.

Perry & I arrived on Sunday, April 17, 2011 for the Founders Tour in Lake Mary, FL.

After registration; we visited with other attendees from Louisiana, Marty & Dale Roth,

Mike & Betty Kraemer, and Charlie & Ardie Froehlich from Mississippi. The opening

banquet was held later in the evening at the hotel.

Monday, April 18th

was spent touring in and around Longwood and Sanford; FL.We

visited the Big Tree Park and Darrell Davis car collection. After lunch at “Route 66”

Restaurant, we visited the Central Florida Zoo. The car museum had one of the first and

the last Plymouth built, a wedge Hemi Plymouth and his own personal favorite year of

Plymouth, the 1954 model; also, Chevrolet, Corvette, bicycles, and huge model

collection.

Tuesday, April 19th was the longest driving day (169 miles) going to Deland, Flagler

Beach, and Chris Koch‟s “Auto-stalgia” collection of fine automobiles and memorabilia?

Coffee break was in Deland at a beautiful county park, and then proceeded north into

Flagler Beach on the Atlantic Ocean where lunch was on our own. The collection of Mr.

Chris Koch was outstanding.

Wednesday, April 20th was driving to Weirsdale to see the Florida Carriage Museum and

have lunch. Optional tour was Don Garlits Museum of Racing in Ocala, FL. The drive to

the carriage museum was beautiful with lots of trees and horse farms. It is located in the

middle of a 400 acre equine resort. It is the home of 160 finest horse-drawn carriages.

While at the Carriage museum the 1935 Auburn Speedster was invaded by a snake. An

ice cream social was held at 7:00 p.m. at the hotel.

Thursday, April 21st was spent touring the amazing private car collection of Bob Shearer.

He has at least six buildings housing cars double stacked. The main working building had

an upholstery shop, paint mixing shop, paint shop, along with his office. Afterwards went

to Dustin‟s Bar-B-Que for lunch in Edgewater. After lunch we motored to Daytona

Beach and visited the Museum of Arts & Science which was quite interesting.

An optional trip was driving your car on Daytona Beach ($5.00/car).

Friday, April 22nd

was spent in Mount Dora shopping for antiques and having lunch. It

was a very nice day in a quaint town. Perry & I took a nice walk on a nature trail.

There were 60 cars on the tour ranging from a 1935 Auburn Speedster to a 1984 Dodge

Diplomat. Ours was the only Mercury. The weather was nice and seeing old friends and

meeting new ones was great.

The old „69 Mercury Cougar performed well.
