The effects of Bologna Declaration on Physical Education System

Introduction and research goals
• System of compulsory sport education was abolished 2009/2010
• Faculty senate confirmed new system – sport as elective course
• Number of students involved in physical education has been reduced
• We wanted to get deeper understanding of new situation • What is students’ opinion about new sport elective
course system?• The results of research should help us to improve
the present sports system.
Faculty of Chemistryat University of Ljubljana
• number of students: 1500• number of participants in elective sport
course: 275• number of participants in other sports
activities: 300• elective course is available with 1st degree of
Bologna Curiculum • elective course includes theory of sport and
practical training• the main goal is healthy living – “to be FIT”,
better prepared for studying
Research description
• The student generation 2010/2011 was included.
• 45 % of 210 questionairies was returned
• The basic statistical analysis has been carried out.
Level of support for sport education among students
• Two thirds of students strongly support the system.

Examination and ECTS points or not?
• 60 % of students prefer option of sport course without exam and NO ECTS points.

General satisfaction with the course
• Almost all students are satisfied with the course; 66 % said good, and 29% very good.

Students’ suggestions for course improvement
• More physical activity, training exercises, movement: 57 %
• More courses related and connected to sport: 55 %.
• Wider variety of sport activities: 47 %
• Providing better sport facilities: 47 %
