WHAT YOU WANT, WHAT YOU NEED

By now you are probably well into your New Year’s resolutions. If one of those resolutions was to get healthy and feel more mentally alert then the library has something to help you on this path. Every Thursday from 6—7pm in February you can join Sue Miller as she hosts a Yoga program. Practicing Yoga has been shown to increase body awareness, relieve stress, reduce muscle tension, sharpen concentration, and calms and centers the nervous system. You are welcome to bring your own mat as we do not have any available at the library. Feel free to just sit in on a session and get the feel of it before you decide to participate. This is mostly for adults but older children are welcome to join if they really are motivated to try the moves and are not distracting to the other participants. Children may use other parts of the library while their parents are in the class. We have three programs in February specifically oriented towards young children. National Take Your Child to the Library Day is Saturday February 3rd. Our library will be celebrating from 10:30—11:30am with a Peter Rabbit Party. We’ll be reading the original Beatrice Potter “Tale of Peter Rabbit” story as well as doing a bunny craft and serving nutritious snacks. Thanks to SONY Pictures Group we will have a Peter Rabbit Movie T-shirt and other various rabbit themed items to give away. The new movie– “The Adventures of Peter Rabbit” movie will be released on February 9th and we will try to get some movie ticket donations from local theatres. “Cooking with Allison” continues to be popular with the children and February’s theme is sure to be a hit! Allison will be focusing on foods from Italy in the Saturday February 10th program that starts at 10:30am. Local children's author Kathleen Lombardo will be at the library on Saturday February 17th from 10:30—11:30am where she will be reading her new book “Clover”. Clover, the cow, enjoys going for walks, eating corn chips, and playing in the yard with Katie and her dogs. This extraordinary story is about a nineteen-and-a-half-year friendship that developed between a girl and a not so usual pet. It is a story that will touch your heart as it stresses that it's okay to be different in more ways than one. We will have snacks and a simple craft after the reading. The 2nd Sip ‘n Paint Library Fundraiser will be held Tuesday February 6th at 7pm. For $35 per person you will receive painting supplies, instruction and refreshments which include a variety of wines and light snacks. Laurel Austin-Smith will be the art instructor for this acrylic class. Make your reservations by paying in full by January 30th as class size is limited to 25 participants. With the new year comes, inevitably, the ritual of filing our taxes. Thanks to United Way of Southern Chautauqua County we will have Volunteer Tax Assistance representatives here at our library on Saturday February 24th and Saturday March 17th from 10am—1pm on both days.
