• Challenge management to recognize the severity of work-related health risk factors, for example: obesity, diabetes and stress — Determine the impact of chronic conditions on employee productivity

• Evaluate your employee population’s needs to demonstrate how a wellness program will help your employers control health care costs, improve employee productivity and enhance workforce engagement

The mission of Baystate Healthy is to create a strong, fit, energized and resilient workforce, essential for business success. The continuous demands of the hospital environment present an ongoing challenge for generating desired program participation and outcomes. Baystate Health’s three-year evaluation study showed positive change in many employee health risk factors except for two of most importance — physical activity and body weight. This case study will highlight how Baystate broadened the dialog on employee well-being in order to focus resources to engage employees toward achieving a healthy weight. Preliminary results are encouraging and employees got what they wanted (and needed) most.
