The eStylista City Guide: MissMalini on Mumbai’sTop Places to Eat, Drink and Party

by Malini Agarwal with eS Team

Trust MissMalini to tell us how to party in style.

And we all know she has a full blown website to

show for it. Whether it’s brunch-ing at the

coolest restaurants or kicking off her heels at

the hottest party joints, she’s done it all. So

might as well take her advice very very

seriously!

While the first part was all about handy tips to

get the best out of your city, this week is filled

with food and party ideas – Mumbai’s very best.

Part Two of this delicious venture with eStylista

MissMalini include highly recommended

restaurants, a bunch of awesome secret food

joints, online spots for great food and of course,

the hottest party places to dance the night away.

Go through and bookmark every single link.

Because it’s not everyday MissMalini gives her

secrets away!

What To Eat

I’ll admit I’m not much of a foodie but

luckily I know some really good places

to grab some yummies.

First up: Tariq Ansari (you know him as

the charming MD of Midday and Radio

One) started a Facebook Page called

Best Regional Food in Bombay saying,

“I’m tired of going out to eat overpriced

‘Angreji’ khana in the city. This is a page

for foodies in Bombay to share

information and tips for great regional

food restaurants.” So the next time

you’re looking for a yummy local treat,

you know where to get a variety of

recommendations!

Also rap star and full-on foodie Tanmay Bahulekar (aka Microphon3) has a drool-worthy Instagram

page for all things delish called Bombay Bhukkad. Go there to know the latest in food in Mumbai.

It’s a tough choice but if I had to break it

down to the 6 places I’d go if I had a

week in Mumbai – this is what I’d

suggest:

Goa Portuguesa/Culture Curry in

Mahim. Please look out for the

HILARIOUS Suhas Awchat. You’ll

recognize him from his life-size portrait

on the wall inside and he’ll probably be

in a police uniform and hand you a fold-

out business card.

Elco in Bandra and Swati Snacks in Tardeo for delicious Indian street food like Paani Puri and Chaat.

Gajalee is the best seafood restaurant in the city, hands down. Read my lips, #butterpeppergarliccrab!

Britannia at Ballard Estate. Incredible Parsi/Irani food – definitely order the Berry Pulao and their

“special” soft drink (be warned, it’s really pink and sweet!)

The Table and Ellipsis, both in Colaba, easily the best continental restaurants in the city. In

fact, @EllipsisChef is also on Twitter and quite an entertaining read!

Pali Bhavan, Bandra comes with great Indian fare with the most beautiful interiors I’ve ever seen in a

restaurant (think Photo Opp!)

Also I’ve never been there but I hear Madras Cafe in Matunga is ACE!

What To Drink

I’ve always enjoyed the Long Island Iced

teas at Dome, Intercontinental Marine

Drive. Also Wink, at the Taj President

makes some seriously yummy martinis

(everything from Blueberry to Wasabi)

and the cocktails at Busaba, Lower Parel

have never let me down. If you need an

afternoon pick-me-up, try the cold

coffee with a chocolate swirl called Cafe

Viennoise at the Sea Lounge at Taj

Palace Hotel, Colaba. You”ll get a great

view at sunset of the Gateway of India

for free

Where To Party

Aha! Now we’re talking more my speed. But be warned, clubs and bars in Mumbai are constantly

opening and shutting down - here’s a list of places I like and what’s cool about them.

Bandra Blues

Olive Bar & Kitchen is best visited on a

Thursday night if you want to see

Mumbai’s young and restless in droves.

But be warned, it gets pricey if you

order imported liquor, so SPECIFY if

local liquor will do for you. Also they

don’t let too many “stags” in alone on

Thursday, so plan ahead and call some

ladies.

The Big Nasty is a hop, skip and jump away from Olive with retro tunes, affordable drinks and a nice

laid-back vibe.

Big Bang Cafe has a similar vibe to Big Nasty, two big terraces and beer by the litre.

Elbo Room cozy spot and run by Dino Morea‘s brother Nicolo Morea so you’re more than likely to

run into nicer crowds!

Escobar another great spot with an outdoor deck.

Loca Loca in Khar (formerly WTF) has a nice Cuban vibe and easy drinks.

North Mumbai

Aurus (Juhu) the music is always good

and they have a great outdoor deck that

looks over the beach.

Trilogy (Juhu) recently reopened much

to everyone’s delight!

China House (Santacruz) fancy drinks

and good DJs and one random Tuesday,

Salman Khan bought us all drinks there!

#truestory

Three Wise Men (Santacruz) super fun

sporty bar bang opposite the Santacruz

Police station. (Genius, because that’s the last place they’d ever look *lol*)

South Mumbai

The Ghetto (Mahalaxmi) still my favorite

dive bar in the city and where I made my

first 3 friends they have pool tables,

cheap drinks and rock music!

Aer, Four Seasons (Worli) best view of

the city, brilliant breeze but drinks are

pricey!

Tote (Mahalaxmi) is yet another massive

bar (that looks like the inside of a

Ferrero Rocher)

Blue Frog (Lower Parel) live music almost every night of the week, ’nuff said.

Cafe Zoe (Lower Parel) , the same mill compound as Blue Frog, excellent decor and vibe.

Barking Deer (Lower Parel) a new pub and brewery that’s opened opposite Blue Frog.

Busaba (Lower Parel & Colaba) great cocktails and beef skewers to snack on.

LIV & Cheval (Kala Ghoda), Amadeus (Nariman Point) are the best spots to visit town-side last I

checked (admittedly, I’ve succumbed to the big Townie-Suburban divide and tend to stay north of the

sea link!)

A new club just launched on the 27th Floor of the Palladium Hotel called Exo, can’t wait to check it

out!

But if you’re looking for a big night out try one of these joints. Or-g (small but always fun), Ren

(decked out with laser lights and VIP booths) or Royalty (massive heaving dance floor on weekends).

Dome (Marine Drive) rooftop, poolside

fun.

Cafe Mondy’s & Cafe Leopold (Colaba)

the iconic two casual day/night bars on

the causeway.

Indigo (Colaba) the most iconic

bar/restaurant in Mumbai so drop in for

a drink!

Friendly Tip: Model Aquin Pais, Mona

Juneja and Harpeet Baweja throw the

most banging parties around town under the brand “Butter Events” check them out for updates on
