Dear Adventurer
Jenny Kemp
Our springtime odyssey through the Ionian and Adriatic Seas sails to ancient ports and abledshores, tracing millennia-old trade routes and celebrating the legacies o powerul empires. Noewer than nine magnicent World Heritage Sites highlight our voyage aboard the deluxe andintimate expedition vessel, Island Sky.
From the historic crossroads island o Malta and its lovely 16th-century capital, Valletta, wecruise to Sicilys Greek and Roman treasure-trove, Syracuse. We then traverse the Ionian Sea,the ancient Greek and Roman route o trade and conquest, and enter the Adriatic, sailingtoward southern Albania. Our rst stop here showcases the impressive archaeological site oButrint where ancient ruins rise among owering orest glades. Te centerpiece o our voyage, the enchanting Dalmatian Coast, is a revelation o medieval jewels, and we begin our explora-tion in Kotor, Montenegros 14th-century walled ortress town ronted by a sublime bay andsurrounded by limestone clifs.
Croatias enchanted shores are punctuated by inviting sandy coves and dramatic limestonemountains. More than one thousand islets dot these waters, some home to tiny photogenicvillages, others uninhabited and cloaked in r. History spans the millennia hereromPaleolithic times to Roman conquest, rom Byzantine rule to Venetian dominance. In beau-tiul medieval Dubrovnikat Korula Island, once the home o Marco Polo in the harborcity o Split and in Sibenik, the ancient Croatian ortress town, our voyage showcasesthe architectural legacies o these powerul civilizations with visits to superb Romanesque,Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque palaces, monasteries, and churches. A tting nale, sensuous, elegant Venice awaits, a timeless masterpiece o art and architecture, and onceomnipotent queen o the Adriatic.
During our journey enjoy time to ollow the winding lanes in ancient town centers, pause inountain-splashed plazas, and savor the local scene in a bustling marketplace. Photographers
will appreciate the glow o aternoon sun on red-tiled rootops, along with sweeping viewso quaint harbors and dramatic promontories. And as we walk in the cool shade o KrkaNational Park, serenaded by its many wateralls, we have the chance to experience the naturalbeauty that once beguiled princes, emperors, and kings around the Mediterranean.
I invite you to join me and our renowned lecture team, including historians and archaeolo-gists, as we sail these abled waters in the ull bloom o spring.
