Seller InsightI have lived here since 1992. At first we were put off the property by the wealth of false beams but were attracted by its location in the centre of town, its size and the land which came with it, albeit then a field. The pharmacy, surgery, post office, several pubs and small

supermarkets, a general store and haberdashers and our excellent butcher are all within easy walking distance.

Since we moved in we have redesigned the house, creating two en-suite bathrooms, a large master bedroom and opening up the lounge and library to form one continuous space with views over the front and back gardens. We have added a swimming pool and surrounding building, now converted to a large sun room, a front lobby and a conservatory. The main reception rooms, with the exception of the dining room, but including the study, all open out onto the large back patio. There is a smaller sun-trap patio on the south side of the sun room. The conservatory overlooks the fishpond and there is another shallow pond by the back patio.

Our newly formed sun-room is a favourite for daytime coffee but in the evening, especially in winter, we retreat to our very comfortable lounge and light the wood-burner. Work is mainly done in the library where we both have desks and the books and research papers are all around. The study houses the printers and other office necessities but also opens onto the patio and conservatory and serves as an ideal location for the bar at party time, since it has a sink and space for freezer and fridge.

In our younger days we had many large extended family gatherings here as well as hosting a number of charity events at Christmas and an RNLI summer party with more than fifty people sitting enjoying the sunshine in this oasis of peace and privacy.

We have laid out the gardens with paths, lawns and borders mainly with shrubs, ornamental and native trees and formed a large paved drive and parking area in front of the house and garages, where we have managed to park up to 9 vehicles at party time.

The beaches at both Dungeness and Camber are only a few minutes’ drive away and Rye, Tenterden, New Romney and Hythe are all close by. Lydd is an ancient borough and member of the Cinque Ports Federation as a limb of New Romney and as such is officially a town, not a village. Most necessities are readily available with only a short stroll, so we only get the car out when we want to.

We have lived in and worked in the area for sometime but also worked abroad and travelled widely. We will be very sad to leave our very comfortable home and garden. However we have reluctantly decided that now, as we are in our 80’s, we must downsize whilst we are fit and able and leave the upkeep of the house and gardens to a new owner.
