The International conference on Bio-resource and Stress Management aims to bring to light the recent findings and solu-tions proposed by eminent scientists around the World to the inflation, population growth, climate change and depleting

natural resources through bio-resource and stress managements. Our mother Earth being a centre of origin for many crop plants and rich in biodiversity and endemic species is

also unique in having a wide range of ecological conditions which favour diversity of species and genes. How-ever, we are still unable to manage daily food for the burgeoning more than seven billion population in the

present World with the fast depleting resources available. Hence our scientific community is duty bound to come up with solutions through sustainable means using modern technology on one hand and ethnic

knowledge on the other. India with the history of more than a hundred ethnic tribes is still sustain-ing on traditional knowledge systems in agriculture, environment and medicine. Where Technology

proves to be liable, traditional systems is eco-friendly. As these problems are not just confined locally but encountered globally at varied intensities, it is the time for us to come together and

resolve them to find a universally applicable solution. In view of the present day need for food and nutritional security under increasing environmental stress, this conference plans to build a team of scientists across the country for transfer of knowledge to the scientists, policy makers and the young budding researchers as well as iden-tify emerging technologies to be applicable for stress management in the context of global climate changing scenario.

AREASBio-resources• Bio-resources, its utilization and processing• Biodiversity, endangered and endemic species• Traditional knowledge, primitive innovative technology, unused and under-utilized methods or tools, recovery of ethnic knowledge• Microbial diversity, pathogenic and beneficial microbes• Forest ecosystem, eco-management, eco-tourism• Crop and soil management, Diversification and globalization of agriculture, conservation agriculture

• Bio-monitoring and bio-warningClimate

• Climate change; soil, water, environmental pollution as well as atmospheric crisis; popula-tion pressure

• Environment education and capacity buildingStress Management

• Green Technology, Nano-technology, Bio-fortification, Genetic Engineering and Biotechnological tools for bio-resource and stress management

• RS & GIS applications in bio-diversity and landscape management• Biotic and abiotic stress on plant, microbial lives, its management

Farmers’ Meets• Lab to land programme for the benefits of the farmers• Socio-economic issues and livelihood security

HOST INSTITUTE The institute was established in 1917 by Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose, who was the founder of modern scientific research in India. Bose Institute pioneered the concept of inter-disciplinary research in India in synch with global trends. Its alumni have achieved renown in India and the world. The conference will be held at Bose Institute, a research institute in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Plant biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Animal physiology, Immunotechnology and Environmental science.

ABOUT KOLKATA & SUNDARBANTill the 17th century, Calcutta was nothing more than a village. But, today it is one of the major metropolitan cities of India along with Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. The credit for its present status goes to the expansion plans of the European powers, especially the British Raj. Kolkata was once the capital city of British India and also the Gateway to India till 1912. It is a major commercial city consisting of big industrial plants and corporate houses.

As a nucleus of the 19th- and early 20th-century Bengal Renaissance and a religiously and ethnically diverse centre of culture in Bengal and India, Kolkata has established local traditions in drama, art, film, theatre, and literature that have gained wide audiences. Many people from Kolkata—among them several Nobel laureates—have contributed to the arts, the sciences, and other areas. Situated on the banks of the river Hooghly, the city is a magnificent portrait of architectural monuments and palaces of historic importance. It is a homeland of thousands of great souls of the nation; some time called as the cultural and intellectual capital of India. The city holds some of the country’s prime sites - the massive Howrah Bridge, Victoria Memorial, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Belur Math, Eden Gardens, Kalighat temple, Birla Planetarium, Botanical Garden, Marble Palace, Tagore House. The Sundarban (Bengali: Shundorbon) is the largest single block of tidal halophytic mangrove forest with a variety of flora and diverse fauna in a unique ecosystem and declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site covering parts of India and Bangladesh. Sundarbans National Park is a National Park, Tiger Reserve, and a Biosphere Reserve located in the Sundarbans delta in the West Bengal, India. It is a homeland of World famous Royal Bengal Tiger. About 400 tigers, 30000 beautiful spotted deer, over 120 different species of fish, 270 varieties of birds, 50 species of reptiles are living in this area. The Sundarban now supports the only population of the Estuarine or salt water Crocodile.

WEATHERKolkata has a tropic wet and dry climate. Winters during December to February have a cool climate with temperature dipping down to 9-11°C. Most pleasant and enjoyable period weather prevailsfrom November to end of February. There is little or no rain. There is warm sunshine that sets off the chill in the weather and early morning fog. The nights are cood but rarely freezing.
