The precepts are not rules or commandments, they are simply codes of conduct Buddhists take to observe. Buddhists know that breaking these codes of conduct is a downfall to themselves as well as others.

The five precepts is a foundation of morality and is practiced by Buddhists in a daily basis.

This powerpoint is a basic summary of the precepts and are suitable for those who are new to Buddhism.

Precept #1 Abstain from killing any living beings.

Precept #2Abstain from taking what is not given.

Precept #3Abstain from sexual misconduct.

Precept #4Abstain from lying and false speech.

of intoxicants and drugs.
