HOLY REDEEMER PARISH & SCHOOL SUPPORTS CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES
OPERATION RICE BOWL
Operation Rice Bowls have been sent home with each family this week. This
Lenten fundraiser, sponsored by the Archdiocese of Washington, raises money for Catholic
Relief Services, an organization who provides services that aid the hungry and the poor
throughout the world. A percentage of these donations will support local hunger and
poverty alleviation efforts in our own Archdiocese of Washington, D.C. Parishes and
schools throughout the Archdiocese, including our own parish and school, are invited to
place spare change in these Rice Bowls throughout the season of Lent. Your prayers, fasting
and almsgiving this Lenten season will help Catholic Relief Services continue to provide life-
saving assistance in nearly 100 countries.
Each night as you give thanks for the meal that you are about to enjoy, remember
our brothers and sisters around the world who do not have enough to eat, access to clean
water, or the promise of a good education as you drop your spare change into the Rice Bowl.
Together as a parish and school community, our prayer, fasting, and almsgiving can make an
impact and change the lives of those who face hunger and poverty.
Please return your Rice Bowl to your child’s classroom or the Parish Office by Friday, March 23rd. Thank you!
"‘For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in
prison, and you came to Me.’ “Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? ‘And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? ‘When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ “The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these
brothers of mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’ " Matthew 25:35-40
