Each year, the shows we produce reach nearly 200,000 people, so when most think of The Rep, their first thoughts are of our work on stage. You may not know that behind-the-scenes, we play another leading role as well.
For more than six decades, we’ve been committed to igniting positive change through the transformative power of theater. In a world that is increasingly complex and in need of empathy, theater creates bridges between disparate communities, introduces us to varying worldviews, and helps us discover ways to maximize collective opportunities. Our commitment is perhaps most visible today with Mpact, our new community engagement and education initiative. By utilizing the tremendous creative assets of the theater, Mpact programs ask our audiences and partners to think about what they want the future to look like and then assists them in making that future a reality. Through Mpact we…
Strengthen & Celebrate Milwaukee by providing free professional training to our most talented young performers, curating city-wide conversations to further understanding of topical issues, producing world premiere plays that celebrate Milwaukee’s rich history, and developing resident-driven programming to strengthen civic pride in neighborhoods like Amani.
Improve Literacy and Social-Emotional Learning through our industry-leading in-school literacy program Reading Residency and after-school programs which use theater to engage hard-to-reach students, our student matinees that introduce children to live theater, and our Rep Immersion Days which welcome students to The Rep to learn about the craft of theater.
Foster Diversity and Inclusion by providing free and significantly discounted tickets to under-served children and families, developing the next generation of diverse theater artists via our Emerging Professional Residency Program, and supporting Bronzeville Arts Ensemble as our resident theater company which is dedicated to telling African-American stories.
In total, the programs above serve more than 20,000 students from 250 schools annually. All are offered at little-to-no cost to participants due to the generosity of patrons like you!
To help us secure these programs for the future, a generous patron has issued a challenge – every new or increased gift made before Dec. 30th will be matched dollar for dollar up to $50,000! We know that you believe in the transformative power of the theater and hope that you’ll help us continue our work with a tax-deductible gift.
Giving is easy. You can pick up a brochure in the lobby, visit us online at www.MilwaukeeRep.com or call 414-290-5366. Thanks for helping us make it happen this holiday season!
